Rescue Me ID: 17-04-21-00160Bart II (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I first brought Bart here in October of 2016, he got out of a plane from SEACCA shelter in Riverside, and went straight to an adoption event at Farm Supply, where he was promptly adopted, at about 6 months of age. Got a call the other day, Bart needs a new home. The circumstances, he was left home with an older son, who does not live with the family, and their other dog. According to the older boy (no witness, and this boy had already been told not to handle Bart like this), Bart reacted when he was grabbed by the collar. He does not know this boy as one of his pack, but all dogs should respect all people, they'll never win an argument ... (Read More)about this... Bart's owner and father of the older boy has decided, Bart has to go. I requested a bio on who Bart is now and has been the last 6 months. It was very favorable. He's trusted with the tiny kids in his family, and great with their other dog. And he's aloof with strangers. No crime in that. This was a pup, now a juvenile, who has been living with 2 very small children, 2 adults, and their other large dog. Bart appears to be brindle cattle dog, and Rottweiler combo. He's big boned, but smaller in stature than a rottie. He may be adopted right from his home, or he may come back here in Paso Robles to the rescue. Either way, much is known about his demeanor and disposition, as of the last 6 months of his one year on the planet. Bart's great with his family, trusted with the little humans and adores his pack leaders. He was wary of the extended family that came and went. His owners feel he would do just fine if he were somewhere without so much activity as far as the coming and going of those he doesn't know well... we all agree, Bart is a fantastic dog. Great with small children, calm around livestock, good off leash, house broken, good with other dogs. Great in the car. Any other questions? Ask away.     Meet lovely Skyler, a 6 year old female Australian Cattledog. She is looking for an active home that appreciates the breed. Skyler was adopted recently and quickly became an integral part of the family. They love her. However, they have discovered that she is a cat chaser and can be nippy around smaller kids. This is normal for a Cattledog, of course, so she is being re-homed to someone without cats or small kids. Older kids are fine. Skyler is a smart and active girl. She is a nice girl inside the house and knows to settle down after play time. She loves to play and enjoys walks. She is nice on a leash and would love to go for hikes. She ... Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

I have an Australian Cattle dog that I need to find a loving new home for! My dog is very loyal, and in most settings is very loving, but has a ton of energy that has led to a couple instances of dominant/fearful behavior. My current career unfortunately does not allow me enough time to support her with as much attention and exercise as she needs and deserves. So it is out of love that I am searching for a new home for her. The ideal new owner has a large backyard, potentially another dog or two where she can be apart of a pack, and an owner who has more time to dedicate to her.

Meet Cash. This 1.5 year old male Cattledog is looking for a home because his owners new place won't allow for him. He weight about 55 pounds. Cash is a great dog. He is house and crate trained, so is a polite member of the family. He knows basic obedience, too. Cash is a social guy. He is nice with everyone! He is also good with other dogs '| even with cats! Cash enjoys playing with other dogs and would welcome a dog pal in his new home. Cash is fantastic as a partner for adventure. He is good on leash and loves to walk on the beach. He is also good in a car. He would love to go hiking or jogging with his new person. After the fun is ... (Read More)over, Cash loves to cuddle. He enjoys people and loves to play with toys. Perfect? Cash thinks so, though he can't hear you. However, for those of us who know the breed, we know that not hearing doesn't slow a Cattledog down at all. Cash is an amazing, social dog and he is ready to be a great pal to an active person who also loves evening couch time. Cash is neutered, microchipped, and current on vaccinations. Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Gorgeous, right? This hunk is Hunter, a 2.5 year old Cattledog. He weighs about 60 pounds. Hunter is such a great boy. He went from being an outside dog to knowing the basics in just a week: sit, house training, crate training. Hunter is a social boy. He is good with large and small dogs. Since he is a nice boy, he prefers dog friends who are the same. So, mellow and neutral to submissive dogs are preferred. He does well at doggy daycare, too. He just likes to live in harmony. In fact, he is so harmonious that he is living nicely with cats. After a quick sniff, he just accepted that they are family. Hunter loves attention from men, women, ... (Read More)and kids. He loves to get attention and even likes to be brushed. He gives kisses, too! Hunter is ready for adventures. He is nice on a leash, though he does have a few quirks that should iron out over time. He will walk right beside you, then bump his nose against you to check in on you. Such a herder! He also loves to look back with a huge smile. He loves outings and will thrive with lots of walks and/or hiking. He is good in a car, too, so he will love adventures both in the neighborhood and further afield. Hunter is an ideal Cattledog for someone who wants the smarts and a dog who can keep up, but doesn't want the high intensity of the standard Cattledog. He is quiet, relaxed, and sweet. He goes with the flow and would be lovely with a family. However, the kids should be older simply because he likes to jump up to give kisses and that could knock over a smaller kid. So, the only draw-back with Hunter? He does shed. If you don't want to brush a dog, then he isn't for you. Hunter is ready to meet potential adopters in So Cal. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on shots. A home visit and vet reference are required. (Less)

Cool name I didn't have to think of! The shelter did. A stray from Fresno, he wound up in a good shelter, cuz now he's here! About 2 they say. Seems very young. Super puppy playful with the other dogs. Landon is shy, but coming around fast! He went to an adoption event second day here and he did great. Seems to really like young girls, a couple 20 somethings were hanging out with him at different times and he wasn't shy at all. He was so cute! Landon walks like a feather on a leash. And he's more and more happy to see me come outside, everytime I do. His first crush here was Ava and she's adopted, so he's turned his attention to Hurley. ...     Brody is about a year old, very puppyish! Sweet and submissive with people. Brody doesn't have an aggressive bone in his body. He can be cantankerous with particular dogs, but a verbal correction is all it takes to knock that talk off! He just tries to see if he can assert himself... around here the other dogs say, 'uhhh no' Brody is easy. He follows me everywhere. He's sorta short and long. And he was shaved when I got him. He needs some air on his coat. He was not taken care of well, had some scabs under his thick coat. Now he's getting good baths and air on his skin. It's all dried up and flaking off. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Cillian, pronounced Killian. He is a 18 months old Shepherd/Cattledog mix. He weighs about 55 pounds and is a fun boy. He is looking for an active family that likes to be out and about, but doesn't have too much company coming in and out of the house. Here is what Cillian has to say: I was rescued from a homeless encampment and the Humane Society named me Ranger for the few weeks I was there. I was adopted by my current family and renamed Cillian (pronounced Killian). I have been living with an 11 & 13 year old and their parents whom I love very much. Every week I go for a playdate to workout some of my boundless energy with other ... (Read More)dogs. The staff there always gives me a good report and I have fun playing with the other dogs. I love playing fetch (though I am still working on returning) and my favorite things are tennis balls bounced high in the air so I can try to catch them. I like having my belly and ears rubbed. I have taken 2 obedience classes and I respond well to training with treats but have never been off leash except in the yard. I am very smart and know how to sit, stay, lay down, shake paw and even 'fist bump'. If my water dish is empty, I use my paw to rock it back and forth and then stare at my owners to let them know I am thirsty. I am very curious and enjoy exploring, especially in the yard at night. If my owners are seated and I want attention, I will flick their elbows with my nose until they pet me. Unfortunately, because of my experience at camp, I have some anxiety and can become frightened and leash reactive and protective when I am surprised or meet some strangers, especially when I am on a leash. Our house is very social so it is not a good place for my stranger anxiety. My perfect home would be one with a more experienced owner who is able to work with me but also love me as much as my current family. Cillian is neutered, and up to date on shots. He is ready to meet potential adopters in the San Francisco area. A home visit and vet reference are required. (Less)

Magnus is just under a year old, lap dog snuggly and devoted sidekick. He chewed his leash free in S. Los Angeles and escaped into the streets where he promptly was hit by a car near Baring Cross and 110th. A Good Samaritan nearby had him taken to ASEC to fix broken vertebrae in his lower back.     Meet Tate! Tate is a herder mix puppy, probably not more than 7 or 8 months old, he weighs 40 lbs so far but has some growing to do if the size of his paws is anything to go by! He was just rescued from the Riverside county facility where he had been left in the 'needs rescue' kennels in the back because he was scared out of his mind. Not anymore! Tate came out of his shell pretty quick after arriving at his foster home and is a super smart, gorgeous boy! Tate's a 'submissive happy puppy', he seems to automatically know how to respond submissively to more dominant dogs but is not scared of them, and he does great with all dogs. He is also ... (Read More)already responding really well with humans considering that he seems to have been left in a backyard without a lot of human contact. Tate picked up on walking on a leash very quick and, when off the leash in a backyard, he will automatically heel and follow! Tate is looking for someone familiar with herding dogs, who has the time to continue his socialization and training, and he would do great with another dog around. Also, Tate really needs a home where his people are around a lot and can give him the amount of one-on-one attention and exercise he needs, he has a lot of energy! Tate is currently hanging out in Huntington Beach. Interested?     Young, adorable relationship-building dog in foster care really needs his forever home!! Jax, a 2.5 year-old, lean 30 lb. Cattle Dog/Am. Staff. mix, has been in foster for nearly 2 years now, most of his life. He is inherently fearful and needs to build trust through patience with a dog-savvy adopter, but he's so sweet, loving, and loyal, and builds such a strong bond once he does, it's worth every minute. He's very easily managed without any medications or special equipment. He's super intelligent, housetrained, knows how to use a doggie door, and knows lots of commands. He's also vaccinated, micropchipped, and neutered. Now all he ... (Read More)needs is to find his forever home. He has lived with two medium/large dogs and can potentially live with other appropriate, tolerant medium dogs if introduced properly. He plays very well with my medium dog. He does not get along with small dogs. He has also lived with cats and is fine with mellow ones. He will bark at them if they move erratically or show fear. He has also lived with foster kittens and has done well. He has been around older, dog-savvy kids but would not be ideal for a first-time dog owner. He is partially muzzle-trained for occasions when a situation could be too stressful for him (vet visits, exposure to unfamiliar people in new environments, etc.) He loves to go for long walks and hikes, fetch tennis balls, chew on bones and toys, and work for treats. He can also entertain himself well and does not appear to have any separation anxiety or similar issues. He just needs a place to call his own, where he feels safe and comfortable. His rescue organization is Love That Dog Hollywood, but he has been in my home as a foster. I'd be happy to share additional details or answer any questions about this wonderful little guy! (Less)

Sheila is an Australian Cattle Dog mix. She loves walks and car rides and would love to have lots of room to run. She and my small dog are not compatible, so since I've had my small dog for several years and Sheila is my newest rescue, she needs a different home. We do require a home visit.

When you want total love and devotion, two adoring fans are always better than one! With Ollie and Dottie, you get a wonderful two for one deal. These two beautiful girls were surrendered to a good samaritan when their person passed away. He simply had to make sure that these two loving girls got a fantastic home. Now, Ollie (Olivia) and Dottie are ready to find that forever home. Ollie and Dottie are at that perfect Cattledog age, 7 and 5. They are over the puppy silliness and have plenty of energy for lots of adventures. They love to go for walks and hikes. They are nice on leash and ride nicely in the car, though they do like to ride ... (Read More)shotgun so they can help you navigate. They are even good off leash once they know who their person is. Ollie and Dottie are smarties. They are living a relaxed life at the moment but have learned to come when called and also when called to eat. They love to eat. They have also come a long way from being outside dogs to house trained. They are eager to learn and really focus on their person. As is usual with Cattledogs, Ollie and Dottie prefer polite introductions to dogs. That said, after the introduction, they are lovely. They live with two other Cattledogs and cause no problems. As for people, they have learned how much fun it is to meet new people. They went from nervous to eager. Now, on walks, they can't wait to meet new folks. These girls have such big hearts. They are very devoted to their people and they are very devoted to each other. They have to be adopted together since they rely on each other. They even give each other kisses! Ideally, they would love someone who will really appreciate how sweet they are, enjoy having two shadows instead of just one, and will let them sleep in the bed. Ollie and Dottie are spayed and up to date on vaccinations. They are wonderful girls ready to meet potential adopters in So Cal. A home visit and vet reference are required. (Less)

What could be better than two gorgeous sisters? Meet Trace and Zip, two bonded sisters who are looking for a new home. They were purchased from a breeder as puppies and very much loved. Then their person passed away. They are looking for another home where they can be adored again. These girls have such sweet personalities. They love to meet people and get very wiggly when they do. They bond nicely with a person and really enjoy getting attention. They are nice with men, women, and kids. However, they are too excited to be in a home with young kids. Trace and Zip are dog friendly. They also seem uninterested in cats. They didn't have a ... (Read More)cat in their prior home but in their foster home they don't seem to care about the cat. They did have a parrot in their prior house and they are fine with that. Trace and Zip have just the right amount of energy. They love to go in the car and they enjoy walks and hikes. When the fun is over, they settle down nicely next to their person and hang out until the next adventure. Both of the girls are house and crate trained. Also, as you would expect, these girls are smart. A friend of their prior owner says that one girl is the smartie pants and the other is the lover. Trace and Zip are 7 years old and weigh about 40 pounds each. They are spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. They are ready to meet potential adopters in So Cal. Rescue Me ID: 17-01-17-00554Zippity Do Dawg (female)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Male Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This beautiful girl is Zippity Do Dawg, or Zippy for short. She was born in March, 2012, so is 5 years old. For those of us with herding dog experience, we know that this is an ideal age for this breed. This darling, spayed female Australian Cattle Dog was saved in the nick of time from near death at a local shelter. She was adopted to a wonderful older lady who recently passed away. Now, she needs a new home. She prefers a home with adults or possibly with older kids. Zippy is 5 years old, approximately 35 pounds, and knows her basic obedience: sit, stay, leave it, and lay down. She is also house and crate trained. She has been snippy ... (Read More)in the past with other dogs in the household and other visiting dogs, especially other female dogs, so she is looking for a home where she is the only dog and she can be a total shadow to her person. If there is another dog, it should be a lower energy male who is polite. This sweet girl is all about love. She is a bit velcro and likes to snuggle on the couch with her person. She has an average to lower heeler energy level and loves to be with her people. However, if you turn on the sprinkler, she turns zippy and will jump in for action. If you turn on the hose, she loves to bite the water. Zippy rides nicely in the car, often sleeping until you get to your destination. She also walks nicely on a leash. Zippy is ready for her forever home. She is microchipped, spayed, heart worm negative, and fully vaccinated. A vet reference and home visit are required as part of the adoption process. Adoption is limited to Southern California. (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

It doesn't get any sweeter than Snarfles. This darling little Cattledog mix found himself in a shelter with a seriously bad case of Secondary Acanthuses NIgricans (or for those of us non-medical types- long term neglect left his hair and skin in horrible shape). Now he is healing, his charming personality is coming out, and he is looking for a forever home who is willing to love him as his hair finishes growing in. Snarfles is between 5-6 years old and weighs about 33 pounds. He is a gentle, low key boy who is a social butterfly. He loves everyone that he meets: people, dogs, and cats. He even likes the vet! Snarfles is a very nice boy in ... (Read More)the house. He is house and crate trained. He adores people and loves to cuddle and be held. Heck, he is even looks dashing in a sweater. Don't let that calm demeanor fool you. He is a smartie pants. He knows his name and comes when called. He is working on sit and stay. As for food, that is his special pleasure. He will do anything for food. He can hear a treat bag open from the other side of the house and will bark to let you know that he wants one immediately! If you want a fun little buddy who will root for your sports team, hang out with you on the couch, and snack with you, this guy is your dog. That said, he is wonderful on leash and great in a car. So, when it's time to work off the calories from eating snacks, he is ready to keep you company on walks and hikes. Mostly, Snarfles is looking for an amazing home who will see the beauty in his heart. He adores attention and is almost surprised when he gets it. He blossoms more every day and will be a fantastic pal for someone. Snaffles is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He is available to meet potential adopters in Southern CA, since he is a beach weather kind of guy. A home visit and vet reference are required. (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

I am a gorgeous, sweet, friendly, happy, male, microchipped, young Australian Cattle Dog puppy looking for my forever loving home. I was born September 8th 2016. I am a happy dog, love to run and fetch and be closest to my family all day long - once I find them. I had a bad start into life, my former owner kept me outside as a yard dog and I have been neglected, and not taken care off. I was so thirsty that one day when I found liquid in the yard I tried to drink it to smooth my throat but it burnt so bad before I could swallow and caused chemical burn in my mouth and on my tongue. My rescue came straight for me on New Year's eve and took me ... (Read More)to Southern California Specialty Hospital in Irvine, where the kind Dr. and staff washed my mouth carefully and gave me pain medication and put me on IV fluids as I was dehydrated. They made me stay comfortably over night until I was released to my foster family to heal and enjoy a life and love and TLC and education. I am best suited with an active family, with a secure fenced yard to exercise in and drain my energy. I am a real candidate for a family/person who wants a buddy for hiking, walking, jogging. I am also a real candidate for agility and obedience. Right now I am in need of some training as I am still a puppy, to become the loyal family dog you are looking for. I am not a couch potato at all and physically and mentally best stimulated when I get work. I require regular daily exercise. I am considered a family dog so I am primary indoors. I am smart and intelligent, as my breed belongs to the easy trainable ones - however when there is something in for me - like a treat - I don't say no. My new parents should have breed experience. Enrolling me in a puppy kindergarten class is a great start. Inviting visitors over regularly, and taking me to busy parks, stores that allow dogs, and on leisurely strolls to meet neighbors will also help me polish my social skills. Yours with a happy tailwag! (Less)

She is polite in the car and is ready to go for a ride. Don't let her age fool you. This breed stays vibrant for a long time. She is plenty of dog to be a wonderful companion. She loves a good walk a few times a day and pulls on the leash since she is having such a good time. She is walking for 30 minutes a few times a day at the moment. Brandy is lovely with others. She is nice with other dogs and even good with cats. She is also polite in the house and is house trained. She will sit when asked, too. Brandi has received a clean bill of health and is in lovely shape. Brandi is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on shots. She is ready for her forever home in SoCal. Rescue Me ID: 17-01-04-00449Whiskey (male)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Whiskey is a very active, 11 month old, 42 lb. cattle dog pup. He is a super playful and fun-loving guy, with a seemingly limitless capacity to play and race around.%A0He loves all variety of toys and is learning to play fetch. He is confident and curious about the world. Because he was not taken out or socialized much before we took him in, he a little cautious and protective when first encountering new things, people and other dogs. However, Whiskey's basic nature is a gentle, submissive dog, who is very friendly and wants to please his people. When he's chill, he is a sweet pup, who enjoys cuddling and giving kisses.%A0 Our guy fits ... (Read More)the classic description of his breed. Whiskey is a very high energy cattle dog, with a lot of stamina. He is a very smart, thinking dog, with the courageous, pushy, persistent quality that is needed to keep the cattle in line. He is strong and athletic, and enjoys being physical. Whiskey has much of what we love about this breed. He has an exuberant, silly nature, and a cattle dog's ability to make you laugh. He also very much wants to please his person, and is extremely loving with the human and canine members of his pack. Whiskey would be a great companion and helper with livestock, or some other daily physical activity. He could be a tireless sport dog for agility, fly ball, etc. Whiskey would love to be in a home with another dog for him to play with. Our boy is so full of puppy energy and loves playing with his canine foster sisters so much, that he can exhaust his playmates. Whiskey is a little mouthy, but he's learning.%A0When playing, he likes to give herding nips to other dogs, in a playful way. In a multi-dog household, Whiskey would need work to learn how to respect and be polite to the other dog(s). Currently, he is an adoring, but pesky little brother to his foster sister. He constantly pounces on her to engage her in play, or leaps on her as he races across the room to fetch a toy. Also, His Pushiness he will try to squeeze himself between his foster dad and his dog sister, while making comical howling sounds. Whiskey has been great with his foster's 11 year old nephew and 13 year old niece. He may be a little too active for young children and toddlers.%A0He also became best buddies with a small, 6 year old, male dog who stayed with them. Because of his rough sense of play, we do not recommend Whiskey for a home with cats. Like a small child Whiskey doesn't want the fun to end. If he is too rambunctious and his foster ushers him into his crate, he will complain with a bark or whine, before finally settling down. However, he will frequently choose go into his crate on his own, when he wants to nap or it's bedtime. Whiskey is mostly quiet, but he can also be vocal, expressing his moods with different sounds.%A0Our boy will often growl his discomfort about new things, which his foster believe will stop, as he learns the ways of the world around him.%A0He will use his cattle dog high pitched bark, when he wants to play. HIs foster is teaching Whiskey to have an inside voice.%A0 Before we rescued him, Whiskey was rapidly growing into a 'teenager' without knowing any rules or boundaries. He did know the basic commands: sit and down, when treats are involved, and come. Although Whiskey is just now beginning to learn proper behaviors in different situations, he can still be a wild child at times. His adopter(s) will need to continue the work we have begun, and be a patient, unwavering leader, who is up to the challenge of providing consistent guidance and training.%A0While Whiskey has a mind of his own, he is now starting to learn boundaries. He seems to be improving a little each day.%A0Once he understands the rules and learns manners, he will grow into a wonderful partner and loyal companion. As with many cattle dog pups, Whiskey is playful mouthy, but learning the proper limits of play. Whiskey is still in his youthful chewing stage, and will need a variety of chew toys to keep him busy during quiet time inside. As a curious, explorer, he will follow his nose and get into trash and things within his reach. Fortunately, he takes reprimands and corrections quite well from both his canine and human fosters. Whiskey does NOT guard food or resources (toys, treats, special person). When he knows he has done wrong, he becomes very submissive. It seems Whiskey was never exposed to the sights and sounds of a neighborhood. On his first few walks, he seemed quite insecure and defensive, growling, pulling and barking at nearly everything he encountered. He is now learning how to behave when encountering other dogs, and fast moving things, but is still very alert and tense when outside the safety and familiarity of the house.%A0He will need continued, regular, exposure to everyday life in order to gradually become more confident and calm on walks. Whiskey enjoys car rides, but continues to be alert and vocal about unfamiliar things outside. (Less)

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] This darling girl is Nettie. She is a Cattledog/Border Collie mix who was born into rescue. Because she is a special needs girl, she needs a special home. Nettie weight about 40 pounds and is a happy girl. She loves people and loves to play with other dogs. Nettie has lots of friends. She plays and runs around the yard with other dogs (see the video). She is also polite with cats. She is a very social girl with people, too. She is good in the car and is a favorite at the pet food store and vet's office. Nettie's herding dog smarts are helping her to adjust to a case of epilepsy that came upon her as a younger puppy. She seeks a home with people who are home more than not, like to have fun and cuddle on a very pretty and soft girl, and will keep up the structure that keeps her happy and healthy. She weighs 38 lbs., and is a moderate energy girl.%A0Grace is shy at first; but once you gain her trust, she is extremely affectionate and will dive into your arms, kiss your face, and then tuck her head under your chin and paw at you for more love. Being close to and loved by her person, is what Grace wants more than anything else. She doesn't play with most toys, but does enjoy playing tug of war with a rope toy.%A0Tug can be used a training reward and a way to build a special bond with her person. %A0 Grace's ... (Read More)fosters have been working with her every day on training, and to socialize her. She is as smart as they come, eager to please, and a fast learner, who loves her training sessions. She loves to trick-train and knows approximately 30 cues.%A0Some of her favorites include: rebounding off of walls, jumping over hurdles, spinning, and performing a figure-8 around her handler's legs.%A0She usually learns tricks within 10 repetitions, at which point, a hand signal can be introduced.%A0Within a few training sessions, the trick can be put on a verbal cue.%A0 Grace was given a herding aptitude test. The trainer said that with a patient handler, she could definitely be a good working herder. Grace loves to climb and balance on objects.%A0 %A0 When Grace's foster family first found her, she was very fearful. For the first few weeks, she army crawled throughout their house because she was afraid of the ceiling (it was likely her first time being inside).%A0She would freeze and then react if she saw a stranger (person or dog) over 400 ft. away.%A0She could not be in the same room with other dogs, and would even bark/react to dogs through a baby gate.%A0 %A0 In the few months that she has spent with her fosters, she has progressed a great deal. On leashed walks, she is able to walk within 30 ft. of other dogs and 15 ft. of strange humans, and still remain focused on her handler. If another dog barks at her, especially from behind a fence/barrier she will definitely bark back. She is alarmed by quick movements and wants to chase. She also reacts this way with squirrels and cats encountered on walks. With more rewards based training, she can learn to remain calm during these types of distractions. %A0 Grace is basically a submissive dog, who has only started learning how to live with other creatures in the past few months. She is continuing to improve, but still has some issues being around other dogs, especially when the dogs are moving. She can be in the same room with other dogs, but she tries to herd them if they move around too much. For this reason, she would do best in a home with no other dogs, or a much older dog, or a home where she could be kept separate from other dogs for a while in order to provide a slow introduction. During most of the day, she is in the house, where she is most relaxed and happy. Grace is calm in the house. When Grace isn't training or loving her people, she hangs out quietly in her crate. She is always crated while her fosters are away. Her crate is her safe space, and should be a part of her forever home.%A0Because Grace is a world-class athlete, she cannot be left unattended in a backyard. She could easily climb over (or dig under) a 6 ft. fence. Grace is completely housebroken. Grace is also getting more relaxed on car rides, since nearly all her rides have been to do fun things. We recommend that she ride in a crate when in the car. Grace is usually a very quiet girl, who just wants to hang out with her people and work with them. The only times can be a bit barky is when she is working on new tricks, and when her people leave her.%A0She will bark for a few minutes when her people leave, but quickly quiets down. We believe that Grace would be be happy in a home with a small yard and a person who enjoys training activities. Grace is NOT recommended for someone with an active (running, hiking) lifestyle, or who wants to take her everywhere with them. Since Grace is just now learning to meet people without panicking, we do not recommend her for a home with children, who can make sudden unpredictable moves.%A0 In summary, Grace is a sweet, loving girl, with incredible potential, who has had some extreme unknown trauma in her past. Grace is making excellent progress with her fosters, but her adopter(s) will need to continue the work. She is NOT for a novice dog owner. Her ideal forever home should provide plenty of time for her to bond with her person. She needs TLC, patience, reassurance, encouragement, and slow positive exposure to new things. Quiet country life would be best. Busy neighborhoods/urban living/dog parks are NOT for her.%A0 If you are interested in meeting Grace, please first complete our online adoption form, at hittgv.org. Go to the Adopt button near the top of the page, and scroll down for the online form. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-27-00556Cisco (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Cisco is between 1 and 2 years old and weighs 48 lbs. He is a charming, incredibly loving, smart, silly, playful and sometimes pushy cattle dog, who adores human attention. Cisco's natural personality is a submissive, goofy, fun-loving guy. He often wakes up his foster mom in the morning with a sweet cuddle and kisses. He quickly bonds with his very own people and dogs, and wants to be right next to them all the time. Cisco is very responsive and eager to learn.%A0He is easy when handled 'ۥ and allows his fosters to touch his ears, face, and paws easily. When petted, he relaxes and often lays down for belly rubs.%A0 '۬'۬Cisco has ... (Read More)good house manners. He is very observant, and quickly learned several basic commands'ۥsit, stay, off, leave it, etc. He now sits patiently before he gets his food and to have his leash put on. At mealtimes, once he's done eating, he waits politely for his foster sisters to finish eating before he goes over to lick both their bowls. He willingly goes into his crate when told 'in your bed.' He often takes naps in it on his own.'۬'۬He loves to play with his foster sisters. He is mostly submissive with them, but will sometimes playfully take toys away from them. He would need to be paired with a happy, tolerant dog who wouldn't mind his impish antics, as he learns more manners. However, Cisco is also a work in progress. Before we rescued Cisco, he was obviously never exposed to or learned things that most household dogs know from an early age. We do not believe he had ever been walked on leash before, but is learning good leash manners now. Cisco also did not know how to play with toys when we rescued him, but now he has his favorites that he carries around throughout the day. Initially, he was nervous about getting in the car, but he has learned to enjoy car rides to fun destinations. He rides nicely in the backseat or in front as your co-pilot. He does not like to be left alone, and gets a little anxious, but will eventually settle. At his core, Cisco is a submissive dog, who doesn't want any trouble. However, due to his unknown traumatic past, he can be extremely reactive when first encountering some dogs and people. Once he realizes that another dog is friendly, he and figures out that he is safe, he gets over his initial reactiveness, and is good with people and other dogs. For this reason, he needs adopters who have experience working with reactive dogs. Cisco has two HITTGV fosters working with him and with professional trainers to reduce his reactivity and get him on the right path in life. As he continues to be exposed to positive new experiences, his fosters are seeing his confidence grow and his behavior improve steadily. Because he sometimes panics when seeing strange dogs, and reacts by pulling and snapping indiscriminately, he may accidentally bite those standing nearest to him. At times, we still use a soft muzzle for him, when there may be a chance of meeting unknown dogs or people. He has grown into great relationships with both foster people and their dogs. The ideal situation for Cisco is in a mature, calm household (no children), with people who are experienced dog handlers who can gently train him, while building his trust and confidence, and discouraging his reactive tendencies. If you are interested in Cisco, please complete our online adoption form. At our website: hittgv.org, click on the Adopt tab near the top of the page, and scroll down to find the online form. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant

Meet Hank, a handsome, 7 year old Cattledog mix. He is a fun, active guy looking for a home where he can be an active partner. For those who know this breed, you will know that this is an ideal age. He is full of action but has none of the puppy craziness that lasts in Cattledogs for the first few years. Hank is polite and ready for adventure. Hank is smart, as you would expect with this breed, and has had some professional training. He is good on leash and rides nicely in the car. He is also crate trained and house trained. He would be a wonderful work-out buddy. He is all that you would anticipate. He is loyal and looks to his person to ... (Read More)engage with him. He does alert when someone comes to the house, so it is helpful if someone has breed experience to know how to thank him for alerting and then ask him to stand down. Hank is a social guy and enjoys companionship with his people. He is nice with men, women, and even children. He has been around horses and other dogs and does well. He is an affectionate guy who also loves to play. Squeaky toys are a big hit with him. Hank is ready for his forever home. Breed experience and a vet check are required to adopt Hank. (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Named Lucky because he truly is, this guy is a 5 year old Australian Cattledog who weighs about 27 pounds. Lucky is the kind of dog whose love you earn and, when you do, he is your best friend forever. He has had a rough time of it and a good samaritan stepped in to help him. Lucky, indeed. Now, he is looking for a home who doesn't mind taking it just a bit slow at first. Simple little things make all of the difference to him, such as talking to him before coming up to him, so he knows you are coming his way. Gentle leadership will help him relax and become even more wonderful than he already is. His foster mom wishes that she had fewer ... (Read More)dogs, so she could keep him. Lucky is a typically Cattledog in that he sometimes wonders about bigger dogs. He likes small dogs and would be fine with another medium-larger dog who isn't interested in being number one. He is also uninterested in the cat in the house, so should be fine with cats. Lucky is a smart guy. He learned his name in under a week. We don't know what his name was before he came to us. Also, he is house trained. He knows his basic commands: sit, stay, quiet, and come. He is initially excited to go on an adventure, but stops pulling on the leash after just a bit. He will walk right at your side, ready for whatever fun is in store. He does love car rides. He thinks that he would like to help drive by sitting on your lap. So, he is learning to stay on his side and will benefit from a dog seatbelt or crate in the car. Mostly, Lucky is a guy who wants a committed relationship. He has a cute smile, missing one tooth. When happy, he will come up and put his head on your chest. If you lay down on the floor, he is likely to come up and lay curled up against your arm. Once he loves, he loves deeply. Lucky is neutered and is current on his rabies vaccination. He will be up to date on his other vaccinations and microchipped before adoption. Lucky is ready to meet potential adopters in Southern CA. Out of area adopters will be happily referred to our favorite rescue partners. (Less)

She is ready for an active home. Minnie is looking for a person who appreciates her love of fetching and will join in the fun. In fact, one could call Minnie a toy hoarder. She takes very good care of them and does not pull the stuffing out of her toys like some dogs do. She is ready for a person who wants to go places and take her along. Minnis is a sponge when it comes to learning.
