Rescue Me ID: 15-02-25-00472Cowboy (male)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive

Cowboy is a wonderful little guy. He is a miniature, therefore only about 25lbs. He is the biggest sweetheart who will literally smile at you. He was a stray and became our pet for a very short time. My husband and I are staying with family for a few weeks and she demanded he leave immediately. I was so disappointed and heartbroken but forced to take him to our local shelter. Cowboy is scared of basically everything at first, it takes a little time to gain his trust but once you do he cuddles, listens and loves. Please help him! I hate that he is in that place.

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Rosie is the sweetest, most loving, beautiful dog ever. She's extremely protective over her owners and home - makes an excellent guard dog. She's very sweet and gentle with our cat and human baby, but if anybody comes to our house whom she's not very familiar with she is very aggressive and very recently bit a stranger (albeit it was my fault as I was distracted with the baby and was careless). She is relatively low energy and extremely obedient and well trained when there isn't a stranger around. Now that we have a human baby she's become even more protective over our space and less accepting of outsiders, even some of our friends. We ... (Read More)rescued her 5 years ago and she's been my favorite pet of all time and I love her so much - but it's just not realistic for us to keep her now that we have a baby and have people coming to our house more frequently than ever. We've spent lots of money and time on training - so she's very good with commands and is very smart but she's just too aggressive when it comes to protecting the home. (Less)

Mercy, is a 9 month old Australian Cattle dog mix. She is healthy and very energetic. She loves to play ball and tug-of-war. Mercy although obedient is not socialized with other dogs and needs some training, but other than that is a great dog. We love her and just want her to go to a good home where she'll have space to run and play. Please email me or call if interested.

Hi there! My name is Danny and I would really like to get to know you. I am writing a little bit about myself because I am soooooo new here at Rescue Ranch the staff and volunteers haven't really had a chance to get to know me. I just arrived from the Siskiyou County shelter and I am waiting here at Rescue Ranch for you to come and meet me. I am settling in here at 'the Ranch' and enjoying my comfy Kuranda doggy bed, all these great toys, inside/outside kennels (I'm so proud I have learned how to use the doggie door), daily walks and cuddles, and of course 2 tasty nutritious square meals a day + treats. I still need to get in to see the ... (Read More)vet for my neuter appointment but you could still come out to Rescue Ranch and meet me. So far I heard the staff and volunteers say that I am really into cuddles and loving, more than balls and fetch. If I am the paw-fect match for you I hear they will let you fill out an application and save me for you till I can go home. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-19-00514Hanks Williams, Sr. (male)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

If you believe that the best things come to those who wait, then you have found your dog. Hank Williams, Sr., is a 3 year old Australian Cattledog who, once he creates a bond with a person, is a very devoted shadow. A nice couple took Hank in when he wandered onto their farm looking for a place to belong. With just a bit of patience, he warmed up and become a very devoted pal. They are sad to part with Hank, but he isn't sure about their new baby and they really want the best for him. Hank is a gem for the right person. He loves car rides and walks politely on leash. Hiking and jogging are favorite activities for him and he is pretty ... (Read More)solid off leash, too. He would appreciate an active home where he is included in the activities. In his short stay at the ranch, he has learned sit, come, out, and 'that's all.' He likes clear guidance and is happy to do his part, seeking to please his person. For beach goers, please know that Hank enjoys joining you at bon fires. He will help you by gathering sticks. You pick up some and he picks up his own. If he has to, he will steal it from your pile of kindling and then sit at your feet watching you make s'mores. Mostly, Hank wants to be a right-hand man. Grocery store trip? Sure! Taking out the trash? Want company? Hanks is polite indoors. He is house broken and hasn't shown any tendencies to chew or cause any mischief. However, he sure is interested in the resident cat. He follows her around, though he has never attacked. That said, he enjoys his dog companion at the ranch. Hank does require a proper introduction to new people, which is pretty typical for a cattledog. He will leave folks alone but prefers to make friends on his own. If cornered, he will nip. If left alone and given time, he warms up and accepts new people into his circle of friends. For his own people, he is the ultimate shadow. His good samaritans say that he is the most loyal dog they have ever met and their hearts break though they know that the right home is out there for him. This gorgeous boy is healthy, neutered, and ready for a great home. He will be chipped and vaccinated prior to adoption. A home with prior cattledog or herding breed experience is preferred. A home visit and vet reference are required. Please, no applications outside of Southern California. This guy is a local guy and likes the weather here. (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

When you meet Lola, you will fall for her. She is one of a kind. Lola is a 5 year old beauty. She would be a fantastic family dog, though she would be happy to be dedicated to being someone's very best friend, too. Lola is a friendly girl and she loves kids. She is a teddy bear girl who wags her tail like crazy when she sees kids. This girl likes treats and is quite polite in taking them gently. She also likes a daily walk. While she can start out pulling a bit on the leash, a gentle reminder has her walking politely with you. Lola is friendly with other dogs, large and small. She lives with a mid-sized dog and a small dog, both of whom ... (Read More)she enjoys. She is also doing well with the two cats she lives with. Since Lola is a polite girl, she likes her animal pals to be polite, too. She has a 'gentle giant' personality in a more manageable size of 55 lbs. If you've ever wanted to own a cattle dog but afraid they would be too high energy for you, this is your gal. Two long walks a day is all she needs. Likewise, she would probably be fine at a dog park or doggy daycare. Lola is doing great on her house training. She is also a pretty quiet girl who doesn't bark much. Lola is probably a mix of Australian Cattle Dog (Heeler), German Shepherd Dog and Malamute. Whatever had family history, she is definitely unique and a real eye-catcher. Lola is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. A home visit and vet reference are required. Only a home in Southern California will be considered. (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Meet Bully. He is a 7 year old male who weighs about 40 pounds. This handsome boy is blue with tan markings. He has a perfect white Bentley on his forehead and a fabulous cattledog tail. Bully has been raised with the same family since he was born. Unfortunately, he has developed too much of an interest in the chickens who live on the property. Therefore, Bully is now looking for a new home. Bully is very friendly and is a shadow to his person. He likes to be where his person is, enjoys getting plenty of attention, and would relish having someone who wants a best friend. Bully is also friendly with new people and is nice to the grandkids ... (Read More)who come to visit from time to time. Bully is nice with other dogs, as long as the other dog isn't an un-neutered male. He does play with the dog he currently lives with and would likely be equally happy as an only dog or with another dog as a friend. He is also pretty good about ignoring the cats on the property. Bully knows sit and would love to learn more obedience. He is currently plenty occupied at his home so would need to learn to walk on a leash and get a bit more comfortable in the car so that he can become someone's hiking or jogging companion. At 7 years old, he has more than enough energy to be a great companion to an active person. Bully currently lives in Apple Valley. He will be neutered and vaccinated before being adopted. A home visit and vet reference are required. Only a home in Southern California will be considered. (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

I am so sad to say that our lovely pup Ronin is in need of a new home. We're looking for the perfect loving space for him to fully thrive. He is warm, sweet, very smart and full of love. He's just over two, was rescued from a shelter near Morgan Hill when he was around six months. He's developed leaps and bounds, is submissive and bright. He is neutered, healthy and current on all vaccines. He needs a home without children and gets along with other dogs who will tolerate his herding nipping. He has showed no aggression toward cats or chickens. His perfect home is on a lot of space with something for him to herd or some other way for ... (Read More)him to be engaged more consistently than we are able. He is not aggressive but does get nervous and will occasionally snap. He otherwise nips, not to harm but it seems to be a herding instinct. The unpredictable behavior around kids is our primary concern. With the right home and loving patient attention he continue to be and otherwise perfect dog. (Less)

We found Buddy at approximately 3 years of age on the side of the road and we fell in love with his sweet temperament. We adopted him and have loved him for several years but because of a (human)health crisis he has had his daily activities severely restricted. After alot of soul searching we decided he would be happier somewhere with a yard and lots of outdoor activities. He is best pals with our other dog , a terrier mix and loves going for walks, the beach, and the dog park. He loves meeting other dogs and has never met one he doesn't like. We are sorry to see him go but his happiness needs to come first.

Little Lucy is a petite, faithful three year old girl who is looking for a home without kids. Lucy is three and has her basic obedience down: sit, come, stay, get in the bed. She is also house trained. She is crate trained but is a good girl in the house so doesn't need it. Lucy loves car rides and is excellent on the leash. She has a wonderful heel, whether it is at a walking pace or running. Despite her petite size, she has been conditioned to be quite the companion runner, currently going up to 8 miles per run a few times a week. Lucy enjoys her current dog companion, even having fun playing with him. Other dogs should be fine with ... (Read More)Lucy, though all of the dog park action does stress her out. She isn't a dog park fan. Lucy is a very local companion and she likes to cuddle with her person. She also likes to play a rousing game of fetch with her person. When it's down time, she even enjoys looking lovely in sweaters so that she can stay warm in the winter. Lucy is interested in an adult home, since kids can stress her out. She prefers a quieter home life with people who will take her out and enjoy an active lifestyle. Only applicants with prior cattledog experience will be considered as Lucy does need help learning that she isn't supposed to be the one to nip at heels and such to stop someone from playing with another dog. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Hope... she has some now. Left at Ramona Animal services, Hope is only about 7 months old. Little Australian Cattle Dog / Border Collie mix, definitely has working instinct, and knows not what to do with it. So she herds dogs, beautifully, but the pack does not appreciate that! Since she got here today, she's learned that's not appropriate behavior and she's having ball with the rest of the pack now. Hope had an accident when she was younger, a broken foot. It was allowed to heal, poorly. She gets around fine. She actually is at an advantage as it is her rear leg. She was seen by my awesome vet, last Weds. We have 3 options, 1. Leave ... (Read More)it, she uses it to balance while standing sitting and lying down. And it causes no pain for her and will not in the future. 2. Amputate above the foot, get her a prosthesis. I got quotes on both. 3. Amputate completely, a more expensive surgery. She showed me an interesting side, on a walk with a prospective adoptive family, Hope was giving me trouble on leash, and I realized, she kept looking back at the couple little stragglers in our group. It wasn't until all of us, were in formation and walking as a group, that Hope relaxed into a nice walk. She wanted her flock all together! Especially the kids. Hope should be a family with young children, she's going to be the best nanny! Now Hope is chilling here with the pack. Living like it's home. Goes on daily off leash pack walks. and runs like the wind. She loves to go on walks. On or off leash. Great with the other dogs. House broken and using my dog door. Perfect indoor manners. No worries when she's inside. Rides beautifully in a vehicle. Hope is beautiful. Soft shiny coat and classic Border Collie/ Queensland. Very intelligent little thing.     This is Rosie - she was rescued by us as a 6 week old puppy and we have had her ever since. She is 1.5 years old. She is very sweet, endearing, silly, loyal, entertaining, loving and energetic. Her antics and quirky personality constantly makes us laugh! She is leash trained and is a pleasure to walk. She chases a ball and exercises herself by doing so - she retrieves with us each day and is a speed-demon acrobat! She does not do damage to our property if we keep her exercised. She rides well in a car or in the back of a truck. She has never met a cat, but would probably be she around it. She LOVES her people. She is good with kids, but shy ... Our other dog is small and 8 years old, and she is too much for him. We'd love to find her a home with loving owners. Her ear stands up as in the photo!! (Less)

My boy Achilles has been with me for 7 years now, but I have been evicted from my apartments and have been going through financial hardship. I'm currently staying with my father who does not have any room for him. Achilles is an Australian Cattle Dog/Rott mix, whom I adopted as a very young pup. He was born somewhere in the valley near Dinuba. He is protective of his family and home and only barks when he perceives a real danger outside and near our home, in other words he is not an incessant barker. He loves to play tug of war and is an all around teddy bear type of fellow. He gets a bit shy with newcomers but warms up to you fast when he ... (Read More)sees you are not a threat.     Mia is a sweet gentle girl about 30 pounds. She is gracefully aging into a little lady that would love to just spend the day with her person on gentle walks and days spent in companionship. Her owner just recently passed and the family already has a full house when it comes to dogs. Mia is crate trained, house trained, good on a leash. She can be intimidated by shouting loud voices so would be best in a home with adults. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Heard about A.J. in the Lompoc shelter. Since Lompoc is 90 miles from me and I have a wonderful foster, Audrey right there, I asked if she could pop in and do a quickie evaluation... I got text message a little later, photo of A.J. in the back seat of Audrey's car (first photo). Husband along for the ride. He wouldn't allow her to leave without A.J.! Since then, he's been with Mr. & Mrs. R****** and their heeler, Ryder. I asked Audrey for a little write up on A.J., so I might learn more about him. This is what I got: 'AJ is a wonderful, fun, energetic and playful young dog. The vet said he is more like two years old rather than one. He is ... (Read More)a Border Collie/Queensland Heeler mix. Rescued from the animal shelter in Lompoc on Dec. 29th. AJ had been here since mid November. Sadly, he was confiscated from a man unable to properly care for a dog. But obviously, A.J. was a loved dog. Up until we started fostering him, A.J. was very skittish at the shelter. One of the officers was working particularly hard at socializing him. When we went to check on him, the socializing didn't seem to be going very well. But, my husband fell in love with him immediately and could tell there was something special about him. We took him that day. The officer said she still had to lift him into the truck to get him to go with her. But, immediately, he jumped into our car. From that moment on, I think he knew he was going to be happy. We brought him home. Over the course of the first week he really came out of his shell. He wanted to go on walks and knew when I was putting on my pants or shoes, was the cue that he would be going somewhere. Ryder is our other dog a 4 year old male Queensland and AJ started wanting to play with Ryder and followed him everywhere. By the second week, he was off leash and loving it. A.J. loves long walks and especially when he can get Ryder to engage in running and playing. Crazy about playing ball in the house and loves to be near you when you are watching TV. He came here underfed, skinny. And has already filled out, very healthy. Now weighing in at 33 lbs. AJ is very independent and not needy at all. He is totally house trained and has never had an accident in the house. He knew right away to use the doggie door. On our daily hikes on the trails he is still concerned about what's around the corner and waits patiently for me to give the go ahead. He constantly looks to see that he is going the right way and waits for the OK to continue. When approaching dogs or people he doesn't know, I call him back if he hasn't come already and leash him to allow him to feel secure. When they have met and gone by, he is off leash again. If we approach them later in the walk he does not need that same support and is ok saying 'Hi!'. I think over time the need to come back to me will subside and he will get use to seeing new dogs and people and be comfortable with it. I must say AJ is a very smart dog. He already knows when I show leash that I want him to come to be on it. He knows my whistle command and he knows stay and come. We would love to see him adopted to a family with young children that he can grow up with. Maybe ages in the five to ten year old group. Another dog in the family would be great, so he has companionship. He definitely needs to be active and hopefully someone that is interested in playing with him like fetch. Someone that likes to be outdoors and walks daily. A.J. really enjoys riding in the car and it doesn't matter where you are going. He will make someone a very good companion.' Dang, I've not even had a chance to meet him and I WANT this boy! Audrey & co. hit the jack pot yet again, her last foster Pete was stellar too. But, they are the working breeds we love. Neutered, current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and ready to go home! A.J.'s adoption fee is $250, a lot goes into these guys to get them ready for you.     Say 'hi' to Ted... quietly, he's nervous! Ted came here with his sister/mother, who knows, Tessa from the small Orange Cove Shelter. Sometimes you wish you knew a dog's story. How could they be SO messed up?! Ted is one of those dogs. He's fearful and under socialized. Been working with him, and experience has proven that they are all reachable. The kind of progress I'm grateful for, he sniffs other dogs, comes in to sleep on a dog bed of his own volition, housebroken, not terrified of me anymore, eats grass on walks... walks on a leash. I can touch him... I'm tellin' ya, it's the little things that are enormous with some of these guys! ... (Read More) Ted needs a special adopter, one who might understand what Ted is going through. He could just be left alone to exist, but I would love to see him with someone that would touch him every day, take him on walks, expose him to things. This is when I've seen the most improvements. Exposure to everything! Immersion. Was a huge deal to even force him to sleep in a dog bed next to me! Once he did for a few days, he expected it! Routine is key! Dogs are incredible, you can reach them through routine. Still working and he has all the time he needs...     COURTESY POST: Miles is a happy pit-bull terrier and Queensland Heeler mix about 5 years old. He is healthy, with no medical issues except he is overweight and could stand to lose a few. He is extremely friendly to men and women, but would do best in a home without young children, as he gets nervous around younger ones who pull his tail, etc. Older children would be fine. He has loves to chase moving things such as cars, running horses, swings, runners, running cats, so would only do well in a home with cats that are used to dogs and would not run from him. Given a proper introduction Miles loves to play with other dogs. However, he will not ... (Read More)share his resources like bones, food, or tennis balls with another dog. He is an extreme ball dog and water dog (LOVES the water!). He rides well in the car or truck. He is fantastic in the house (housebroken, no separation anxiety, non-destructive). Recalls verbally on and off leash under any circumstance. Pulls on a leash with a normal collar, but cruise control on a pinch collar. He is OK with horses, but would chase them if they ran. He exhibits the traits of a Heeler more than the other things he is mixed with, especially the nipping, chasing thing. Currently living outside in a 10 x 10 ft kennel, but typically has the full run of the entire property during the day. During cold or stormy nights, he sleeps inside the house. If you are interested in meeting Miles contact his current foster at sunchaser2213@aol.com (Less)

She is a smiley dog! She likes to play ball but not frisbee. She loves people and people food. We had a huge garden so we know she doesn't dig. She is gentle and herds the chickens when they get out. Our house flooded and is unlivable so we have to move. She is an outdoor dog that sleeps inside at night. A few years ago she got hit by a gardner's weed wacker and it broke some of her teeth & nicked an ear. One ear crumpled.

Draco has been with us for about 3 months. He came from the shelter and was a bit of a handful but settled in quickly to his new kennel. He has been attending the Sunday Emily Fraser-Thomson classes and he's been doing pretty well, he still has lessons to learn but he's a real smart boy. He does real well with other dogs as long as they also want to run and play. He has been told no by a few dogs and he has listened... Draco is a good boy and is ready to move into a foster or adoptive home. He is playful, friendly and affectionate and is an active dog. He will do best in a home that is the same. Such a good boy.

Meet Ranger. This handsome speckled boy is a 6 year old Australian Cattle Dog/Lab mix. Abandoned by his owner, he was saved by a good samaritan who helped to find a rescue for him. He is now looking for his forever home. Ranger is a healthy 79 pounds of speckles and wagging tail. He is good with other dogs, even little dogs, and sometimes wants to play. He also enjoys a good game of tag with his person, barking for more when you stop. He has the right amount of energy to be a nice walking companion. He will ask for your attention, too, if you are ignoring him. He very much wants to interact with his person. Ranger appreciates having his ... (Read More)rear end scratched just at the base of the tail. Some nice scratching and some dog cookies and this guy is your pal. Ranger walks nicely on a leash and rides politely in the car. He hasn't shown any food aggression and generally takes his treats gently. Ranger has already learned 'sit' and other basic obedience commands. He is currently attending public obedience classes and doing very well. He also enjoys regular walks. Ranger isn't a fan of being brushed. This and an interest in taking goodies off of the counter appear to be his only faults. Ideally, Ranger would get a home with a large, fenced yard. He loves to run around, especially if his people will run around in the yard with him. He seems to have low prey drive since he isn't interested in squirrels. That means that cats are probably just find in Ranger's company. He is house trained, uses the dog for, and settles nicely when invited in. Ranger is neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped. He is ready for his home. Because of his size, toddlers and small kids are not a fit for him. Older kids are fine. A vet reference, personal references, and home visit are required as part of the adoption process. Send an e-mail and an adoption application will be sent to you to begin the process. Ranger is being fostered in Simi Valley. (Less)

Rose was on death row at Lancaster Animal Shelter. She was brought in by a man who has a basset hound rescue because he was at capacity. At 3 years old she was one of the ones that would be harder to adopt, but a group of us recognized just how wonderful she could be. We had a forever home for her in Northern California, I sprang her from doggie jail and was her transportation, but her home fell through due complications at the family's home. I am fostering her until I can find her a forever home. Her temperament is wonderful, she is so sweet and gentle towards other DOGS and PEOPLE. I just wouldn't suggest she be in a home with cats, unless ... (Read More)they are outdoor cats that are separate from the dogs - Rose chases our indoor cats, she does not growl or bark at them, but she goes into hot pursuit if she sees them. She is not dominant and always is willing to wait her turn with my other dogs - even the little chaweenie. She is friendly to all people that she meets and needs a home where she can be what she is best, a companion. Rose is approximately 4 years old ... she needs a home with someone who is willing to give her the attention she deserves, she would benefit from a simple obedience class, though she is excellent on a leash and LOVES walks. She is also kennel trained, housebroken, and will always sit for a treat. Rose is a runner - some dogs are. These doesn't make them a bad dog, it just means you have to have a fenced in yard with a secure gate and know that if you are outside of the yard the dog must be on a leash. She LOVES freedom, don't we all? So if she has the opportunity she will RUN - but she will keep looking back at you like, 'Aren't you coming? Isn't this wonderful?! Can't you smell these great smells? Come on!' I can't keep her as she is not a fit for my family ... I already have an APBT that is dominant and he vies for all of the big dog attention. I also have cats that do not understand why one of my dogs wants to love and snuggle with them and the other wants to chase them and try to eat them. Rose is up to date on her shots, is licensed in Kern County, and is micro chipped. The YouTube video is of Rose sharing her food with our little dog Lilly, Rose is so sweet! If you, or someone you know, would like to give this special girl a forever home, please contact me! (661) 412-3179 or kayk79@gmail.com PLEASE - ROSE needs and deserves a forever home where she can always come inside and lay by your feet while you watch TV, or hang out by your side while you putter around in the backyard. She really loves just hanging out with you. She's not one to chase a ball, I throw one for her and she looks at me like, 'Yeah, and now what?' Instead she just likes to run Indy 500 laps around the yard stopping each lap to lick my hand and say 'Hi' then after about 4 laps she just sits next to me and enjoys watching the world go by. I currently cannot walk her - and she LOVES walks! I was in a SEVERE automobile accident last year and fractured my pelvis. My heart breaks because I feel like I am the worst foster mom to this wonderful sweet girl - so please, let's find Rose a forever home! (Less)
