Meet Jack! Jack is in the running for 'Most Improved!' Came in under-socialized and overweight, now he's dog social, fit and extremely obedient. This low-rider boy is ready for someone to recognize his achievements and make him a full-time family member. Jack is an interesting and adorable mix of Queensland Heeler and Jack Russell Terrier. Just over 3 years old, he came to us with his sister, Rusty, because their owner could no longer care for them. Jack is stunning, one brown eye and one blue eye, kind of a lowrider look to him. He's learning to be dog social and doing just fine! Jack is submissive and affectionate with people. He was ... (Read More)raised with cats. He's crate trained, house-broken, knows how to use a dog door and ready to go! Great in the car and fantastic on or off leash. All you have to do is ask him to come, and he's right there! Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Seizures

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] Red Heeler Cross. Very loving dog. Hyper of course, but not always. Was drop off to us, so no history. Very food oriented, probably given his days on his own. Does well with other dogs if not more than one or two. Doesn't do well in large groups of people, as they seem to make him nervous and aggressive. Probably the food thing again. Seizures so far under control with potasium bromide.

3-4 year old heeler female. She wants to be someones shadow. She loves going everywhere with you. I have had her for a bout a year as a rescue, but I cannot give her what she needs. She would do best as the only dog that got as much attention as she desires and deserves or on a ranch where she can work. She is a great dog I just feel that I don't really give her what she needs.

Rescue Me ID: 14-04-19-00327Picasso (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive

Meet Picasso! He needs a new home in two weeks!! A very well-trained 5.5 year old Aus.Cattle Dog in need of loving new home with lots of room to roam. Rescued in 2010 as a 14 mo. puppy. Lived with me for 4 years. Has a history of aggression - but no reports. No kids, parties, or too many new people. He is extremely smart, loving, high energy, and talented. He's a farm dog who has been living in the city for three years. He needs a patient, loving, and experienced Cattle Dog owner who understands rescues and rehabilitation. Read more to hear our story.. Thank you for your interest in helping me find a home for my sweet dog, Picasso. ... (Read More) About Picasso I rescued him in April 2010 from the Oregon Humane Society. He was only about 14 months old and had already had 5 homes - so he comes with a special set of rescue dog issues as well as his Cattle Dog uniqueness. %A0I gave him the birthday of Feb. 14, because he is the sweet little love of my life. He is exceptionally well trained and always eager to learn more. He has been trained to wait at corners off-leash, sit at the beginning of a block and wait until called - even if I am nearly 100 yards away. %A0He follows hand commands to sit, stay, and lay. He sits and waits until I say it is okay to eat his food. %A0We do fence hopping agility training at the park and he LOVES chasing frisbees (note: he is not a retriever, he's a herding dog, so if I'm tossing a disc alone, I walk a lot to pick it up and throw it again... it is much better in pairs :)). %A0We go for two 30-45 minute walks per day or a 1.5 hour hike, but he LOVES to be off-leash in a wide open space to run and chase things and that is more difficult to come by in Oakland. We lived in Portland where parks are plentiful and neighborhoods are very safe so walking him everyday for an hour in the morning and in the evening was easy. %A0We then lived on a 30 acre farm for three months where he chased all manner of critters and loved the outdoor life. In early 2011, we moved to Oakland and where walking to the park meant encountering many aggressive yard dogs barking through fences, and a sense that he needed to protect me more. The neighborhood I live in is not close to a park and I work in SF everyday, so I don't have the same time availability I used to in order to give him the attention and constant training he needs. %A0These factors combined have made him a more aggressive and agitated dog. %A0 He has a history of biting people that come too close into his space. %A0No one has reported him because they all have acknowledged it was their fault: reaching down into his face to pet him without me present. %A0He is great with smaller dogs, but is defensive around larger dogs. Because of his special needs, the challenges of finding a place with a big yard in a little city, and my work commitments, I've come to the painful decision that, to do what is best for him, he needs a new home. What I'm looking for in a new family A kid-free family that is passionate and informed about Cattle Dogs and has a lot of space to roam. %A0In my dream environment, he is on a farm or vineyard with a financially stable couple between the ages of 35-50 that does not have kids or housemates. They are long-time dog owners and lovers who are committed to co-parenting Picasso as their own for at least two years (or perhaps the rest of his happy life) and loving him as unconditionally as I do - if not more. %A0They have the time and energy to keep his mind and body active.%A0 His new family does not use violence to correct behavior (he has an e-tap collar that he has been trained on for that). %A0His new family does not have a lot of visitors or big parties. %A0If/when they do, Picasso has a secluded and healthy environment to keep him and visitors safe. %A0His new family has a history of owning Cattle Dogs and understands their intellect, charm, sweetness, and special needs. %A0His new family is happy to have him tag along for most everything (beach trips, hikes, trips into town) and is comfortable putting a cage muzzle on him if he is walking around in high traffic areas or new stimulating environments. %A0 It is necessary that I be able to schedule visits and take him for some weekends. I am happy to moderately financially support him as well to supplement food costs and any doctor visits ($50-$100/mo). %A0I am also be the one to call for any major health/life decisions. (Less)

Hi we are THE 6 AMERICAN LATTLES, 4 males and 2 females Australian Cattle Dog / Labrador Retriever mix puppies, about 8 weeks old, looking for a furever home. Females are pic on the left on top and pic on the right at bottom. Our mix of breed is called American Lattles or Labraheelers, meaning a hybrid breed of Labrador Retriever and Australian Cattle Dog (=Heeler). Our rescuer saved us from the street. Our foster mom says we are happy, sweet, cute and playful and need to find a family who will love us for what we are supposed to be - loyal family members. Best match for us and our adoptive families would be a family that is living an active ... (Read More)life, with school-aged children, who will know to teat us gentle. A fenced yard to play run fetch or exercise would be a great. We are not couch potatoes and love to work, so if you like hiking or are active this fits perfect to our needs. NOW is that you looking on our photo? If YES - please email or call about us, to schedule a meet and greet. Yours, THE 6 AMERICAN LATTLES Terms for Adoption: Our dogs are located in Southern California. The dogs are evaluated at time of rescue for breed, age etc. at best guess. We always try to answer calls/emails in a timely manner. Please allow a time window of 48 hours to return/answer to your inquiry. We do NOT ship dogs. Out of state adopters can fly in to meet and adopt our dogs, when adopting the dog MUST fly IN CABIN home with you. HOME INSPECTIONS and an APPLICATION are required for all adoptions and must be arranged PRIOR to all meet and greets, if it is a match an ADOPTION CONTRACT must be signed. We appreciate your interest in our dogs, however, there are NO exceptions to the above. Our ultimate goal is to find a PERFECT MATCH for our dogs and you, so that your new family member will live out their life in a loving environment. (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Young Adult

Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Opie is a 2 year old neutered male red Australian Cattle dog with a HIGH energy level. He needs a job to do. As with all cattle dogs, he is very intelligent, a quick learner, and protective of those he is bonded with. He gets along with female dogs and most neutered male dogs. He responds to both men and women, but he is definately geared toward a male presence. He is adorable, has a great personality and fun to be around. He is strong headed, and communicates with his mouth (light biting, he has bitten me twice prior to being neutered a few months ago) when he is wound up and doesn't want to do something. His biggest issue is his ... (Read More)continous, high pitched barking, usually stemming from when he is alone, he is fine when with other dogs or a human is around. He needs plenty of exercise (I currently walk him 3 times a day 1/2 mile each time) as well as plenty of one-on-one interaction and playtime. If he has another dog to play with, he is perfectly happy. Opie needs a job to do where his full potential can be achieved. He is a great dog, and it is with a heavy heart I am posting this. My living situation currently has a total of 5 dogs, and only 2 of them get along with Opie, the other 2 just don't like him and pick fights. Otherwise, he would remain my forever dog. Please help find Opie a home where he is loved and enjoyed and has something to do. (Less)

Meet Brownie! He's friendly, mellow and affectionate! Brownie is a Queensland Heeler mix, about 3-4 years old. He's a low-key dude. Get's along great with all the other dogs. He's friendly and social with us, even runs over to us for affection and attention when he is off-leash. Brownie is house broken, rides nicely in the car, great on or off leash and has perfect manners with other dogs. He would do best in a home with no cats. Now, a little bit about his background. Brownie is a Desert Dog. He came to us from a terrible hoarding situation, where he lived as part of a pack with very little human socialization. We have worked with over ... (Read More)30 dogs from this situation and although Brownie is one of the biggest and most imposing looking of the dogs, he is so easy going that it was very easy to teach him to walk on leash and trust humans. Now he is off-leash and reliable, we can call 'Brownie' and he comes over all waggledy, lets us put a leash on or give him pets! So awesome to see! To read more about Brownie's beginnings, see: https://www.facebook.com/HelpStopDesertDogDeathCamp?fref=ts. Brownie gets used to people as they are around him more. He'll need an adopter that will provide a routine and consistency to continue furthering him. Every adopter that was fortunate enough to give a Desert Dog a chance, has been so glad they did! To sum it up, Brownie is a very sweet, mellow boy, who enjoys human affection, loves being in the house on a dog bed. He's quiet, intelligent, get's along beautifully with all genders and different ages of other dogs. Brownie has absolutely no aggression issues. He's obviously just happy to be. Read up on her back ground: https://www.facebook.com/HelpStopDesertDogDeathCamp?ref=ts&fref=ts Delilah was a little tougher to approach at first, than some of the Desert Dogs that came before her. I believe she was an in charge kinda girl in her pack. But she's in submission now. Doing very well. She's accepting us and the program. Dee loves to go on her daily walks. . An interesting start here. She was boarded on 40 acres, with Bolt, and she got out of her yard one day. But stayed close, and joined us on our pack walks every day, off leash, she'd run with the privileged dogs, but wouldn't allow us to come close enough to catch her... for a week or so. However, we did catch her. And she's on leash now till we get that feeling, it's ok to let her go. But until I know she'll load up, she's on a leash. Probably no more than a few more weeks. Delilah is in foster now. Even sleeps on the bed with 2 humans and 2 other dogs. She's got great house manners, not destructive and housebroken. She's a pretty mellow girl, likes to relax on the couch or lay on the bed. Dee is really beautiful, and probably about 2 years old. She needs an adopter that is around a lot, and dedicated to furthering her socialization with people. She's great with all the other dogs already.     Siblings Luke and Leia. Aussie/Queensland healer mix. 8 years old. Great family dogs. Divorce has forced me into an apartment. Luke and Leia are used to having a yard with pet door. I cannot keep them in apartment - it's not fair to them. Luke lives to play fetch with a ball. Leia plays volleyball with a balloon. She would be an amazing agility dog. Very athletic. Both are very sweet. They've never been separated for long and probably need to be adopted together.

Meet Bolt! He's a sweetie, he loves human attention, and gets along great with other dogs. With a little time, patience, and lots of love, some lucky adopter is in for a real treat. Bolt is great on leash. Loves to go for walks. In foster, Bolt has learned to trust humans and actively seeks human affection and attention. If you didn't know it, you would never guess Bolt lived a completely different life in the wild for 2 years. Bolt and his pack ('kept' by the dog hoarder) were forced to survive without readily available food and water in the desert heat. There was little to no human socialization provided to him prior to his arrival at ... (Read More)CCBC.     Rose was on death row at Lancaster Animal Shelter. She was brought in by a man who has a basset hound rescue because he was at capacity. At 3 years old she was one of the ones that would be harder to adopt, but a group of us recognized just how wonderful she could be. We had a forever home for her in Northern California, I sprang her from doggie jail and was her transportation, but her home fell through due complications at the family's home. I am fostering her until I can find her a forever home. Her temperament is wonderful, she is so sweet and gentle towards other DOGS and PEOPLE. I just wouldn't suggest she be in a home with cats, unless ... (Read More)they are outdoor cats that are separate from the dogs - Rose chases our indoor cats, she does not growl or bark at them, but she goes into hot pursuit if she sees them. She is not dominant and always is willing to wait her turn with my other dogs - even the little chaweenie. She is friendly to all people that she meets and needs a home where she can be what she is best, a companion. Rose is approximately 4 years old ... she needs a home with someone who is willing to give her the attention she deserves, she would benefit from a simple obedience class, though she is excellent on a leash and LOVES walks. She is also kennel trained, housebroken, and will always sit for a treat. Rose is a runner - some dogs are. These doesn't make them a bad dog, it just means you have to have a fenced in yard with a secure gate and know that if you are outside of the yard the dog must be on a leash. She LOVES freedom, don't we all? So if she has the opportunity she will RUN - but she will keep looking back at you like, 'Aren't you coming? Isn't this wonderful?! Can't you smell these great smells? Come on!' I can't keep her as she is not a fit for my family ... I already have an APBT that is dominant and he vies for all of the big dog attention. I also have cats that do not understand why one of my dogs wants to love and snuggle with them and the other wants to chase them and try to eat them. Rose is up to date on her shots, is licensed in Kern County, and is micro chipped. The YouTube video is of Rose sharing her food with our little dog Lilly, Rose is so sweet! If you, or someone you know, would like to give this special girl a forever home, please contact me! (661) 412-3179 or kayk79@gmail.com PLEASE - ROSE needs and deserves a forever home where she can always come inside and lay by your feet while you watch TV, or hang out by your side while you putter around in the backyard. She really loves just hanging out with you. She's not one to chase a ball, I throw one for her and she looks at me like, 'Yeah, and now what?' Instead she just likes to run Indy 500 laps around the yard stopping each lap to lick my hand and say 'Hi' then after about 4 laps she just sits next to me and enjoys watching the world go by. I currently cannot walk her - and she LOVES walks! I was in a SEVERE automobile accident last year and fractured my pelvis. My heart breaks because I feel like I am the worst foster mom to this wonderful sweet girl - so please, let's find Rose a forever home! (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog
lnteresting Australian Cattle Dog Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Cattle Dogs were bred by 19th century Australian pioneers to herd cattle on large ranches. Most Australian Cattle Dogs have a star-shaped marking on their foreheads called the Bentley Mark, after dog owner Thomas Bentley, whose purebred dog supposedly passed this mark on to all genuine Australian Cattle Dogs. Australian Cattle Dogs are excellent at catching frisbees. The Australian Cattle Dog nips at a cow's heels to keep it in line with the herd, and may apply this technique to its humans from time to time as well. Australian Cattle Dogs are descended from several different breeds, including Dalmatians and Smithfield Collies, which are now thought to be extinct.
