Attention! Madden Here! I am a very cute, female Papillon/Australian Cattle Dog mix about 10 months old, looking for my forever loving home. I am sweet, smart, playful like my foster mom says a cuddler and an investigating puppy, open minded and never to tired to play... I still need some training. I am a 'parking lot rescue, my rescuer was right there when my previous owner wanted to surrender me and my best friend Monet to the shelter. Since then I and Monet are happy dogs in our foster home but still looking for a family of our own that won't get tired of us as family members like it happened before. I am waiting for you right here with ... (Read More)Monet - if you feel we are the ones you have been looking for so long, please use contact info to schedule a meet and greet soon. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Mia is a sweet gentle girl about 30 pounds. She is gracefully aging into a little lady that would love to just spend the day with her person on gentle walks and days spent in companionship. Her owner just recently passed and the family already has a full house when it comes to dogs. Mia is crate trained, house trained, good on a leash. She can be intimidated by shouting loud voices so would be best in a home with adults. She also is used to being an alert dog but is not a 'barker' so would be good for someone who wants any extra set of 'ears' in their home. Give Aaron call and see if Mia would be the right fit for your life.

Sweet is an understatement. Meet Betty. She came in with her sister Maggie. Right off the plane these girls are nothing but grateful! They know their names and come like a shot every time I call. Off leash right out of the van into a pack walk. They know their individual names, come like a shot when you call, and they will call off anything to come to their names. They are perfect off leash and will follow at your heel. Fantastic with other dogs and gentle as I've ever seen. And they love the pack! Maggie has been adopted. Thought, ' Must have been a terrible situation that landed them in Apple Valley. So adoptable!', simply states ... (Read More)on intake sheets, owners moving, can't take dogs. I saw the relinquishment form and these people didn't give a hoot about these girls, not even enough to say what great dogs they are! Housebroken, in and out at will, using the dog door, or holding as long as needed when we're not at home (I take them with me a lot). Ride perfectly in the car, in and out on command. So glad to have gotten them out of a very full shelter in Apple Valley. The girls are spayed, vaccinated, chipped, ready to go!     Say 'hi' to Ted... quietly, he's nervous! Ted came here with his sister/mother, who knows, Tessa from the small Orange Cove Shelter. Sometimes you wish you knew a dog's story. How could they be SO messed up?! Ted is one of those dogs. He's fearful and under socialized. Been working with him, and experience has proven that they are all reachable. The kind of progress I'm grateful for, he sniffs other dogs, comes in to sleep on a dog bed of his own volition, housebroken, not terrified of me anymore, eats grass on walks... walks on a leash. I can touch him... I'm tellin' ya, it's the little things that are enormous with some of these guys! ... (Read More) Ted needs a special adopter, one who might understand what Ted is going through. He could just be left alone to exist, but I would love to see him with someone that would touch him every day, take him on walks, expose him to things. This is when I've seen the most improvements. Exposure to everything! Immersion. Was a huge deal to even force him to sleep in a dog bed next to me! Once he did for a few days, he expected it! Routine is key! Dogs are incredible, you can reach them through routine. Still working and he has all the time he needs... Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Cisco was rescued along with his 3 litter-mates from being abandoned in an orchard this past summer. When we found him he was approximately 6-8 weeks old, very skinny and sick. We picked his DOB as May 15th, 2014 and figure he is about 7.5 months old. Cisco is a very sweet little boy with high desire to please that loves his family and his little sister, Poppy (see ID #14-12-26-00141). He is a sensitive pup and would not do well with a heavy hand or an easily frustrated pack leader. Cisco has been through puppy school and beginner obedience class and is crate trained. He is 100% house broken as well. He is working on walking better on ... (Read More)leash and his off leash recalls are improving daily. He is up to date on shots and has been neutered. We had Cisco's DNA run and he is 100% Bluetick Coonhound on his mother's side and Australian Cattle dog/Lab mix on his father's side. We have a ranch with small and large livestock and were hoping these pups were cattle dogs. Unfortunately, the Coonhound traits are predominant and they aren't a good match for a ranch environment. They would be a great addition to a family with more mature children with no cats or chickens. We also have a special needs Australian Shepherd that has severe epilepsy. The young pups are very nervous when he has seizures and I believe it is causing them stress which isn't good. Currently, Cisco is about 29lbs. We would like for him to go to his forever home with his sister Poppy (see ID #14-12-26-00141) since they are very close and have gone through much together. Cisco is a very affectionate dog that loves belly rubs and snuggling. I love this little guy and he will only be given to a loving home that will bring out the best in him. (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

COURTESY POST: Miles is a happy pit-bull terrier and Queensland Heeler mix about 5 years old. He is healthy, with no medical issues except he is overweight and could stand to lose a few. He is extremely friendly to men and women, but would do best in a home without young children, as he gets nervous around younger ones who pull his tail, etc. Older children would be fine. He has loves to chase moving things such as cars, running horses, swings, runners, running cats, so would only do well in a home with cats that are used to dogs and would not run from him. Given a proper introduction Miles loves to play with other dogs. However, he will not ... (Read More)share his resources like bones, food, or tennis balls with another dog. He is an extreme ball dog and water dog (LOVES the water!). He rides well in the car or truck. He is fantastic in the house (housebroken, no separation anxiety, non-destructive). Recalls verbally on and off leash under any circumstance. Pulls on a leash with a normal collar, but cruise control on a pinch collar. He is OK with horses, but would chase them if they ran. He exhibits the traits of a Heeler more than the other things he is mixed with, especially the nipping, chasing thing. Currently living outside in a 10 x 10 ft kennel, but typically has the full run of the entire property during the day. During cold or stormy nights, he sleeps inside the house. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Millie is as sweet as they come, and a turn-key dog ready to be someone's best friend! She is about 4 or 5 years old. At 56 pounds, she is a bit plump. Her ideal weight is about 48-50 lbs. She is mellow, quiet, and gentle. Millie is a low energy cattle dog, mixed with Lab and Australian Shepherd. She is a shy girl, but warms up to people pretty quickly. She meets people in a quiet, low key way and loves most everyone she has met, especially women. Millie would make a great companion dog for someone who isn't too active and is just looking for the companionship of a best friend Our girl is looking for a person(s) of her own who will ... (Read More)shower her with attention and love. She can get along with other dogs who are easy, and who don't get in her face or her backside, but she would prefer to be an only dog and have her person/people to herself. As a cattle dog, Millie is a velcro dog, who will follow you from room to room. Throughout the day she will take naps or relax in whichever room her person is in. She adores petting and being talked to, and will gaze at you with the cutest closed mouth smile. Sometimes Millie will sit in front of her person, place her head on his/her lap and gaze into their eyes. She is also fine at home alone, and rides very quietly in a car. She doesn't only attach herself to one person. At her foster home, she has 3 foster parents, and will follow each around at different times. During nice weather, Millie likes to slowly wander around in the backyard, soaking in her surroundings, taking her time, sniffing, exploring, and nibbling a blade of grass here and there. She has not shown many herding tendencies. She has shown no interest in toys or playing ball. Millie mostly doesn't care about other dogs if they leave her and her person alone. She shows no interest in cats, and would be fine in the same home with them. She is completely housebroken and very easy on a leash. Millie would also be a good watch dog, and has barked at loud mysterious trucks pulling up near the house. She did meet two men who approached her, and triggered a fearful, protective response in her. She was obviously afraid of them and tried to bark them away. Otherwise, she has been fine with all other men, women, and children, often walking up to greet and invite people to pet her. It takes Millie a few days to become comfortable in new environments and situations. She is a very smart girl, and needs a few days to settle in. She would prefer to live in a quiet area without too many loud passing vehicle sounds nearby. (Less)

I must find her a home by this Friday December 5th. Please let me know if you can help me find a home for her.

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Adult

Macy is a very active, sweet hearted dog. My husband and I brought her home about a year ago from an animal shelter. The only background information we had on her was that she had been living under an abandoned car in a riverbed. We did not do any research on heelers and didn't know how much care she would need. She loves to play with anyone who will throw a ball for her. She loves to hike. My husband has taken her on 14 mile hikes and she loves every minute of it. She is good with most dogs. She plays well at the dog park and is very good with puppies. However, she does have some aggression issues. Our dog trainer believes that it is due to ... (Read More)a fear response. She is also not great with horses or other live stock. We feel that she needs to go to a home with an owner who specializes in blue heelers and knows how to work her throw her fear and aggression. She is only aggressive in her home setting. She is fine outside of the home. She is very nervous about being in the car and on a leash. She has had some basic training classes. I am not sure if she would be good with children or not. We are looking to place her soon. It has been a very tough choice for us to have to give her up, but we feel that she needs to go to a home where she will be taken care of and get all the attention she needs. (Less)

Heidi is a spunky girl who loves fun, exercise, and snuggles but also doesn't mind stirring up a little mischief along the way! She can serve all your couch potato *and* jogging partner needs! She loves the ladies and would thrive in a home with female owners! As far as dogs go, she likes to think herself the alpha, so she loves the young/goofy/playful types but clashes with other confident dogs. So what are you waiting for? Come show this girl some love! Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)

Gabby is a sweet girl who loves playing with her friends Sani and Aspen, as well as all the other dogs at the rescue. She is shy of people (was rescued as a stray) but is curious and will come up to sniff and grab a treat. She is calm on the leash and prefers to walk right to your side or behind you. She had distemper in the past and as a result has permanent damage to her back legs. She plays and walks just fine but would not be a good candidate for runs or lengthy hikes. Gabby would love a home with another dog and a yard, and even better if she could be adopted with her friends Sani and Aspen. She's a real cutie.

Sani is incredibly playful--she can persuade just about every dog at the rescue to play with her, from the pits to the shepherds to the huskies! She was rescued as a stray with her siblings at 1 year old, and she is very curious! She *was* fairly shy of people, but is very quickly overcoming it. She enjoys being pet. After she's a little familiar with you, she will also chase a tennis ball or toy. She LOVES toys. She is also very treat motivated.     Aspen was a very shy girl but is overcoming it fast. She came from a background with little human interaction so she is still figuring out how to tell people what she wants and getting comfortable. She loves to get her back and sides scratched. She walks great on a leash--very consistent and usually right at your side. Aspen gets along with other dogs.     Austin came to me as an emergency foster. He was about to go to a kill shelter. He is a wonderful dog and I would love to keep him, but I already have 9 rescue dogs. I don't have a lot of background info on him other than he's lived in shelters and rescues all of his life. He's approximately 1.5 years old and weighs about 65-pounds. I think he may be a Blue Heeler, Rottweiler, Pit Bull mix. He is neutered and up to date on shots. I am not sure if he is microchipped, so I will be taking him to the vet to check, and if not, I will get him chipped. He is very low maintenance, walks great on leash, he's crate trained (he loves his crate) and can ... (Read More)entertain himself for hours outside. He loves to bird watch and chase lizards. He's not a barker in the house, but you may hear him bark outside at a car going by, the neighbor's dogs (if they are barking) or at jackrabbits and other small animals. He loves to stretch & roll around on my fuzzy carpet, he loves playing fetch, but we are still working on 'drop it.' He will need a strong, dominant owner that will give him the exercise that he needs daily. He seems to be okay with very submissive female dogs, but I am still working on his socialization with other dogs. Not sure about kids or cats. He will need a fenced yard, since he loves to be outside. Anything else you'd like to know about this handsome boy, please call me. (Less)

Best in an active home that can devote at least an hour daily and more on weekends of training or jogging/fetching etc. Walks are not enough exercise for him and he does not play with dogs so do not take him to a dog park.     A.G. came from Kings County Animal Services. We knew when we got him back in May of 2014 he was already gone, hence, AG short for 'Already Gone.' Why? If anyone had any common sense, the guy was good as adopted in a flash! He's a 40-45 lbs., 1 year old, Queensland Heeler boy with a docked tail, calm, confident, dog social, walks nicely on leash, house trained and knows some basic commands. What more could you ask for? When we went to unload him from his crate in the van, said 'wait' once the door was open, he waited! Introduced him to 15 other dogs in the back yard, no sweat.. this guy has perfect manners. Even when some of the more macho ... (Read More)dudes came to investigate, he stayed calm and cool, totally non-reactive. What a nice boy! AG was adopted last September, His current owners love him and he's a great dog, but wants more attention than they have time to give. His ideal home would be with owners that are around a lot. he wants to be around his people. He's fine in the yard or house till you get home, and then he wants your attention. AG is located in Lincoln, CA near Sacramento Photos updated at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1491030457779695.1073741970.1428374324045309&type=1&l=b1fee77234. A.G is neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped! Adoption fee is $200. A lot goes into the fosters to get them ready.     Kay looks like a mix of shar pei, cattle dog and beagle and is on the smaller side at 40 pounds. Kay was left behind when her former family moved. She was then sent to the shelter where the shelter attendants and volunteers noted what a wonderful girl she was, very sweet, loving and got along great with the other dogs. She got an A+ in temperament and they asked us if we would give her a chance to find the family she deserved. We don't know why she was left. Kay is housebroken, great inside manners, very gentle with children, walk well on a leash and loves car rides. In short the perfect dog. Please call to meet Kay today!

I have this dog almost 6 months, so he is probably at least 2 years old, from what the vet figures. I had him fixed and current vaccines because I have 2 dogs. I am an animal lover so I tried to fit him in here. I just do t have the time to work with him. He is high energy, unlike my dogs. He wants to play or be with a companion. He is a good watch dog. I need to find him a suitable home. I have cats also. He doesn't hurt them, but he barks and lunges at them in the window. My home is just not the place for him. I don't want to have to take him to a shelter so I am hoping he finds a home here.

Meet Ranger. This handsome speckled boy is a 6 year old Australian Cattle Dog/Lab mix. Abandoned by his owner, he was saved by a good samaritan who helped to find a rescue for him. He is now looking for his forever home. Ranger is a healthy 79 pounds of speckles and wagging tail. He is good with other dogs, even little dogs, and sometimes wants to play. He also enjoys a good game of tag with his person, barking for more when you stop. He has the right amount of energy to be a nice walking companion. He will ask for your attention, too, if you are ignoring him. He very much wants to interact with his person. Ranger appreciates having his ... (Read More)rear end scratched just at the base of the tail. Some nice scratching and some dog cookies and this guy is your pal. Ranger walks nicely on a leash and rides politely in the car. He hasn't shown any food aggression and generally takes his treats gently. Ranger has already learned 'sit' and other basic obedience commands. He is currently attending public obedience classes and doing very well. He also enjoys regular walks. Ranger isn't a fan of being brushed. This and an interest in taking goodies off of the counter appear to be his only faults. Ideally, Ranger would get a home with a large, fenced yard. He loves to run around, especially if his people will run around in the yard with him. He seems to have low prey drive since he isn't interested in squirrels. That means that cats are probably just find in Ranger's company. He is house trained, uses the dog for, and settles nicely when invited in. Ranger is neutered, up to date on shots, and microchipped. He is ready for his home. Because of his size, toddlers and small kids are not a fit for him. Older kids are fine. A vet reference, personal references, and home visit are required as part of the adoption process. Send an e-mail and an adoption application will be sent to you to begin the process. Ranger is being fostered in Simi Valley. (Less)

Meet Salt! Salt has made fast progress! She started off the year living as wild dog in the desert, emaciated, anti-social and beat up. Now, she's off-leash on pack walks, playing with other dogs and pups and loading back into the van when it is time to go. She even lets us pet her. She's a character--no a comedian, but she doesn't know it. She just wants to be her sassy-self, have fun with her dog friends and rough house. So amazing to see this girl blossom. Salt is one of the last 2 Desert Dogs, trapped and brought directly to Central Coast Herding Dog Rescue with her buddy Pepper. In foster, she has learned to appreciate the finer ... (Read More)things that were not offered to her in her prior life (food, shelter, even a nice bed that her foster parents let her share). Salt is one of the more confident and curious Desert Dogs we have had the pleasure to rehabilitate. Upon meeting her foster dad for the first time she marched right over and sniffed him! Big deal for a dog that had had no human contact prior to arrival at CCHD. Salt is house-broken, dog social, non-destructive and rides nicely in the car. Looking for someone to keep your dog exercised? Salt will make sure to get their yaya's out! Salt is looking for humans that will show the patience and compassion to help her continue her socialization.     Rose was on death row at Lancaster Animal Shelter. She was brought in by a man who has a basset hound rescue because he was at capacity. At 3 years old she was one of the ones that would be harder to adopt, but a group of us recognized just how wonderful she could be. We had a forever home for her in Northern California, I sprang her from doggie jail and was her transportation, but her home fell through due complications at the family's home. I am fostering her until I can find her a forever home. Her temperament is wonderful, she is so sweet and gentle towards other DOGS and PEOPLE. I just wouldn't suggest she be in a home with cats, unless ... (Read More)they are outdoor cats that are separate from the dogs - Rose chases our indoor cats, she does not growl or bark at them, but she goes into hot pursuit if she sees them. She is not dominant and always is willing to wait her turn with my other dogs - even the little chaweenie. She is friendly to all people that she meets and needs a home where she can be what she is best, a companion. Rose is approximately 4 years old ... she needs a home with someone who is willing to give her the attention she deserves, she would benefit from a simple obedience class, though she is excellent on a leash and LOVES walks. She is also kennel trained, housebroken, and will always sit for a treat. Rose is a runner - some dogs are. These doesn't make them a bad dog, it just means you have to have a fenced in yard with a secure gate and know that if you are outside of the yard the dog must be on a leash. She LOVES freedom, don't we all? So if she has the opportunity she will RUN - but she will keep looking back at you like, 'Aren't you coming? Isn't this wonderful?! Can't you smell these great smells? Come on!' I can't keep her as she is not a fit for my family ... I already have an APBT that is dominant and he vies for all of the big dog attention. I also have cats that do not understand why one of my dogs wants to love and snuggle with them and the other wants to chase them and try to eat them. Rose is up to date on her shots, is licensed in Kern County, and is micro chipped. The YouTube video is of Rose sharing her food with our little dog Lilly, Rose is so sweet! If you, or someone you know, would like to give this special girl a forever home, please contact me! (661) 412-3179 or kayk79@gmail.com PLEASE - ROSE needs and deserves a forever home where she can always come inside and lay by your feet while you watch TV, or hang out by your side while you putter around in the backyard. She really loves just hanging out with you. She's not one to chase a ball, I throw one for her and she looks at me like, 'Yeah, and now what?' Instead she just likes to run Indy 500 laps around the yard stopping each lap to lick my hand and say 'Hi' then after about 4 laps she just sits next to me and enjoys watching the world go by. I currently cannot walk her - and she LOVES walks! I was in a SEVERE automobile accident last year and fractured my pelvis. My heart breaks because I feel like I am the worst foster mom to this wonderful sweet girl - so please, let's find Rose a forever home! (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting an Australian Cattle Dog in California
Australian Cattle Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Cattle Dog is one of the most intelligent dog breeds, needing a lot of attention to stave off boredom. A neglected Australian Cattle Dog can become destructive. Australian Cattle Dogs have strong herding instincts and behave best when they have plenty of space and a job to do. Australian Cattle Dogs are well suited to farms and homes with large yards; they do not do well confined to an apartment or other small space. Australian Cattle Dogs are loyal and very obedient with attentive training. An Australian Cattle Dog tends not to do well with children unless it has known them since it was a puppy. Australian Cattle Dogs may be very close to their masters and reluctant to accept other people.

Australian Cattle Dog
lnteresting Australian Cattle Dog Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Cattle Dogs were bred by 19th century Australian pioneers to herd cattle on large ranches. Most Australian Cattle Dogs have a star-shaped marking on their foreheads called the Bentley Mark, after dog owner Thomas Bentley, whose purebred dog supposedly passed this mark on to all genuine Australian Cattle Dogs. Australian Cattle Dogs are excellent at catching frisbees. The Australian Cattle Dog nips at a cow's heels to keep it in line with the herd, and may apply this technique to its humans from time to time as well. Australian Cattle Dogs are descended from several different breeds, including Dalmatians and Smithfield Collies, which are now thought to be extinct.
