Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Whiskey is a 2 year old Queensland Heeler Mix! We adopted her about 3 months ago from a local shelter under the belief that she was only semi particular about her preference of playmates. But after many attempts at exposure, we are now aware that Whiskey needs to be the only dog in her home. We have two cats, one of which she loves playing chase with but once that cat stops, she never harms her. She is mellow in the house, is a major cuddle bug, not only next to you but will want to be in your face, neck and neck. We believe this would make Whiskey a phenomenal companion dog, for any couple or single person. She is extremely friendly to ... (Read More)all humans, but will alert you if she is unsure about them. This has allowed her young female owner to feel incredibly safe at home and on walks. She will always protect her people. She is also incredibly intelligent but came to us with little basic obedience. She never jumps on humans, and will politely sit or lay waiting for pets. She loves brain exercise games, including the great ball she loves to push around the house. Whiskey is in great health, extremely strong and a good eater. She loves adventuring and as long as no other dogs are around, is phenomenal off leash, (loves to get her 'ya-ya's' out by doing loops!) will always adventure but stay near her people. She is not food aggressive and can be grabbed anywhere without negatively responding. She is patient and loyal, incredibly loving and will make an amazing dog for any family, couple or person looking for a partner in life. We love her very much but feel she would excel in a home that will allow her to be comfortable without other dogs. We live in Chico but are willing to set up appointments to drive and meet. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-10-09-00312Doogie (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Kelpie and Queensland Heeler, what a soft, sweet dog!! He was brought in at night, new places, always stranger in the dark... Doogie was apprehensive for a minute, and decided to bond with me instantly. He's that kind of dog. His finder would have loved to keep him, but he had a couple dogs and it was a rough crowd for Doogie. So here he is in the land of herding dogs. Doogie is turn key. He was someone's dog for sure, and he is gifted with a beautiful temperament and soft disposition. This was the bio provided: 'This darling guy is Doogie. He has a docked tail. Doogie is about 1 year old and just a great guy. He was found by a Good ... (Read More)Samaritan who wishes that he could keep him, but his own dog isn't welcoming a new pal. Doogie is great with everyone he meets. He learns really quickly, too. He would love an active home to take him on adventures and teach him more. He loves the leash and will benefit from more exercise and some guidance%A0 He is nice with all of the people he has met. We think he would be good with kids. Doogie is a super sweet guy, too. He loves to cuddle and is such a love. He will be an amazing best friend. Doogie is housebroken.' So I am back, and can attest, Doogie is using my dog door, and puts his paws on my laundry table to nose his leash and harness! He LOVES his gear! Like he knows he gets to go if he has it on. Spent the weekend at the lake, no fence, no containment at all. He is so solid! Stays so close to me. At first, nervous and anxious about so many dogs! But, I think it was a little rough for him at the fosters, with the pit bulls... it's a herding dog thing. Once he realized, this pack didn't want to mess with him, if he wasn't interested in playing, he got curious and joined in. He is a pack guy now. Doogie is great. He really is... Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

    - Hi, I'm Chuck. I'm a three-year-old Terrier/Cattle Dog mix (Everyone's still trying to figure out what I am). At a strong and compact 42 pounds, I can run very fast when I play fetch. My foster Dad(FD) takes me to the dog park and I get along with all the other dogs and people, but I'm there to play fetch! I'm very affectionate and sleep with my FD and I can use the floppy dog to go out. I did bite a guy however, he was quite drunk at the time, but he grabbed my snout and squeezed it hard. After it reached my pain threshold I lashed out and bit him. Well, I'm not like that normally though I have become sensitive to people touching me, ... (Read More)especially my feet, but I am improving. I need to be with a strong alpha figure to help keep me in line. I can sit and I learn new stuff well. Neutered, up to date on shots and chipped. My foster dad works through Friends of the Animal Community (foac.us). Please leave a message at 888.508.1112 and peek at the online adoption form... (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-10-06-00007Rusty (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This is a courtesy posting for the family fostering this dog. They are located in the Santa Cruz area. Rusty is a 2-3 year old, female, Australian cattle dog mix.%A0She is a sweet, compact, little lady, who weighs around 45 lbs. She is very attentive, inquisitive, and loves to please. Rusty is free with giving little kisses and is quite affectionate. If she was allowed to, she would be at my side at all times. Rusty has the cattle dog quality of being a Velcro dog, who wants to bond closely and be with her 'person' as much as possible. She seems frustrated that I have other animals and kids that demand my attention, and will try to ... (Read More)compete for attention (in a cute sweet way, not at all aggressive), by squeezing herself into the mix, whenever another dog or a child is receiving any attention.%A0She is doing fine in our big family, but she may be happier in a house where she could be the only dog, as she is quite devoted to her person. She needs a new home, and we are fostering her, because her original person has dementia, to the point that he could no longer care for her properly. At this writing, we have fostered her for about three weeks. Rusty is currently cohabiting nicely with another dog (a pit/lab mix), cats and several kids ages 4-8 years old. She is good with the kids and tolerant of the cats. We have NOT seen any 'nipping' behavior, but she will try to herd the dogs and kids by jumping up and nudging them with her front paws in the direction she wants them to go, or to get some attention. We have noticed that she is pretty high energy. She should have at least one full hour of active, tongue hanging out exercise each day, to be calm and relaxed the rest of the time. Rusty is very observant and smart, and has learned our 'house rules' very quickly. I feel she will learn fast with proper training. For example, our 'house rules' are that the dogs are only allowed inside in one part of the house by the back door where their beds are. She learned to stay within the boundaries quickly. Even though she is completely able to open the screen door on her own, she obeys and does not do it, and waits to be let in or out. There is also a small gate in the back yard that separates our yard from the neighbors that she could easily jump over (and she did, at first) but she has learned the rules, that the dogs stay on our side of the fence. We also recently taught her to fetch, which she enjoys playing. She likes to sleep on her doggy bed inside at night and is completely house trained. She will bark an alert when strangers arrive, but she is friendly once they meet.%A0She likes her chew toys and bones. She does fine riding in a car. She loves to run off leash and play with our other dogs. When on leash Rusty will pull in her eagerness to explore everything and everyone. She will also bark at other dogs, if she is on the leash. Her bark seems attention seeking, and is not aggressive. Rusty is a sweet, smart dog that will be a devoted companion.%A0Due to her nature, she would be happiest with someone familiar with the breed.%A0 If you are interested in meeting Rusty - who is in the Santa Cruz area, please begin by completing the HITTGV online adoption form, at http://hittgv.org/index.php/adopt. For more information or questions about Rusty, please call Amy at: 831-331-3346 (if no answer, please leave a message). (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Amazing 6-year-old Duke was picked up in Tucson by my friend and I on a roadtrip through the Southwest. We had volunteered at Austin Animal Center after Hurricane Harvey and found Duke as he was being moved West. He's an amazingly happy, sweet dog with good leash habits, great with other dogs! Medium-length fur and long bushy tail. He needs some teeth whitener for sure but no sign of disease. He's been vet checked twice in the last two weeks with a good health grade. I would keep him in an INSTANT but he's afraid of cats and he reacts in a crazy bark when they move ... even a little. Poor guy isn't used to cats and my poor cats aren't ... (Read More)too happy right now :) Duke would do well with some space to walk around, I think he was used to his own yard at one time. He doesn't know how to play so I think there wasn't much of that in his upbringing but he's a good household dog, so I think he had a good family once. The people he's been with since Tucson have been very devoted to finding him a good forever home so he's definitely got some good Dog Karma! He's a keeper, what can I say? He has a brand new orthopedic bed that comes with and bags of treats. (Less)

Got Faith? We do! Faith has done a 180! She's a dog! A very sweet and affectionate dog.%A0 She's fine around cats and kids as long as they aren't too wild and crazy as she's just getting the hang of this people stuff. And ready to be adopted! She did her duty, raised her puppies and it is her time! Here's her story! 9/27/17 No need to date updates after this. She is off leash., Follows me like she has done it her whole life. In and out of the van on her own. She's a tad shy, but for what she's been through and how quickly Faith has come along, she is at warp speed. 9/23/17%A0 She's on one leash now...soon, she'll be off entirely. She ... (Read More)comes to her name and licks my chin. 9/22/17%A0 Her first Pack walk. Very sweet, I can touch her and lift her with no concerns of being nipped. She walks by my side like a dog who's knows how to heel. Slack leash and easy. She's coming along at an accelerated rate! 9/21/17 Faith has been dutifully raising her puppies, since she arrived, July 12th 2017. It's changing seasons now... and it's time for Faith to shine. Here's her history: Faith came from a small little known shelter, Orange Cove. Zero foot traffic. I had plans to get her out, and was dependent on transportation but she was pretty far along in her pregnancy. Maybe the transport was traumatic, maybe it was time, she had 2 pups on her way to me, and 5 more during the day. Since then, it's been all about raising healthy pups. Now all are adopted into loving homes and on track to be spayed and neutered. Time to get hands on Faith. She is a feral dog. Probably never been on a leash, or worn a collar or harness. She's wearing all and 2 leashes now. She's fine. And after about 1/2 an hr of working with her on a leash, I got her transferred to a nice kennel run where she can see and socialize with other dogs (that don't just want her for milk), and I can see, she's already relaxing! Are you the special person/family for this sweetheart that deserves the best home possible?     Belle is a 2 year old female Pointer/Australian Cattle Dog mix. She is shy when she first meets people likely due to being mistreated in the past. Once she warms up to you she is very sweet and affectionate. She is good with other dogs, however she tends to keep to herself. She would do best with an adopter with dog experience or someone who has patience and can help build her confidence. She is vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. She weighs approx 45 lbs

Here's a little guy that will brighten up your weekend! Okja was abandoned in Blue Lake and was lucky enough to land with one of our wonderful fosters. He is about 8 months old, neutered, vaccinated and housebroken and only about 30 -35 pounds. His breed mix is anyone's guess, though some sort of cattle dog is in there for sure. His foster home has an older dog and two cats, and they all get along just fine. Okja LOVES to snuggle, sit in laps, and cuddle in bed. He does very well in the car, on walks both on and off leash, and he has mastered the 'sit' command. He really wants to please and just give everyone his love. He is still a ... (Read More)youngster however and is still working on other basic commands. His fosters say he would love a home with other pets or as an only pet, but he would do best with a family who is home much of the time and can give him lots of love and plenty of opportunities to run, play, and be social. Let us know if you would like to meet this sweet little fellow! He is ready for a forever home! (Less)

Forrest came into the shelter from a neglectful situation. With the help of a patient foster mom, Forrest has come a long way and is ready for his forever home! This is what Forrest's foster mom says about this year and a half old Heeler mix: 'He's very shy at first and it takes him a while to trust and love. But if you can get through that your going to have the best dog you could ever want. He spins circles in the morning because he's so happy that it's another good day. He also sits for his leash and for treats. Gentle taking treats. He likes cats but maybe too much, He wants to play with them like they are big dogs too. He loves to play ... (Read More)with new dogs. He guards my fence line from all of the cars that slow down in front of my house. All in all he's a great package deal. If you put in a little time and effort he will be the best dog on earth. He likes to use his paws to pet you if you stop petting him before he's ready. Very easy learner. Aims to please always. He is a nervous fellow and warms up sooner to women than to men in most cases. Walks very well on the leash. Keeps a slack lead if you remind him. He walks next to you if you keep him there with clicks and asking him to stay with you. He would be better with older children.so as not to accidentally knock a small child over. Sleeps in a crate at night and doesn't leave the fenced yard in the day time. So much personality and love! Great cuddler. He would do probably benefit from having another dog around for moral support.' (Less)

Echo can't hear... so she did not come named. But she gets a name. Sweet girl. Normal, happy, social and inquisitive, young dog. She's about 1 year or less. She's easy as can be.     Meet Copper. This handsome boy is around 10 months old. He has a docked tail. He is looking for an active home who wants a best pal for adventures. Copper is good with the cats, horses, chickens, and other dog at his foster home. He has been very nice so far with everyone he has met. Copper loves to cuddle on the bed. He is also currently living with other dogs in his foster home and is a nice guy with them, too. We think he may be good with cats and can cat-test if requested. Pops is great on leash and he loves car rides. He would be a nice travel companion. As for special tricks, beyond being a polite and handsome boy, he sure makes treats disappear quickly! Pops is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He is ready for a wonderful home in So Cal. A home visit and vet reference are required. (Less)

She is not good with other dogs since he tested her, but I think it is because she is dominant.     Young, adorable relationship-building dog needs to find his forever home!! Jax is a 2.5 year-old, lean 32 lb. Australian Cattle Dog mix who has been in foster care for most of his life. He is inherently fearful and needs to build trust through time & patience with a dog-savvy adopter, but he's so sweet, loving, and loyal, and builds such a strong bond once he does, it's worth every minute. He's very easily managed without any medications or special equipment. He's super intelligent, house-trained, does not mark or lift his leg, knows how to use a doggie door, and knows lots of commands. He's also vaccinated, microchipped, and neutered. He ... (Read More)has lived with two medium/large dogs and can potentially live with other appropriate, tolerant medium dogs if introduced properly. He does not seem fond of small dogs. He has also lived with cats and is fine with mellow ones. He will bark at those who tend to move erratically or show fear of dogs. He has also lived with foster kittens and has done very well, as they have no fear or apprehension. Jay has been around older, dog-savvy kids but would not be the ideal pet for a first-time dog owner. His ideal home would be fairly relaxed but with an active lifestyle & fenced yard. He is partially muzzle-trained for situations which could be too stressful for him (vet visits, exposure to unfamiliar people in new environments, etc.) but does well when introduced to new people in a safe, familiar environment. He loves to go for long walks and hikes, fetch tennis balls, chew on bones and toys, find toys or food, and work for treats. He can also entertain himself well and does not appear to have any separation anxiety or similar issues. He just needs a place to call his own, where he feels safe and comfortable.     Red, sassy, and looking for a home that adores Cattledogs: meet Autumn. This purebred 2.5 year old girl is a total gem and needs a home that knows how to help a Cattledog be all they can be. Autumn is a gorgeous red girl with a perfect white Bentley and a long Cattledog tail. She weighs about 50 pounds. Autumn was purchased as a pup and raised by the same owner. Over time, Autumn has proven to need a bit more and her current person is sad but knows that Autumn needs a new home. Autumn is crate trained. She also knows sit and will excel in a home that wants to teach her more. She is also good on a leash. She loves car rides and gets exited ... (Read More)to go. She would love a home that takes her on hikes and other places, a home that knows how to wear out a Cattledog girl. When you are headed home, Autumn is known to take the leash in her mouth and challenge you to a race home. Who is faster? Then, at home, she will give hugs. Yep, hugs to her person. Autumn is nice with women. She is slower to warm up to men, but she does like kids. She also loves to play with water. If you turn on the water hose and aim at her, she will be your best pal (see video). She also loves tug toys and will play with a rope. Autumn is a bit dog-selective. She isn't a fan of small dogs, which can be common with Cattledogs. She would thrive in a home that knows how to keep the pack order, especially if the other dogs are non-reactive. That will set her up for success. Autumn's herding drive causes her to chase horses and cats. A home without cats or livestock is best. Initially Autumn went everywhere with her person. However, Autumn likes to asset herself so she needs a home that knows how to manage Cattledog tendencies. In a home like that, she should be easy to correct with clear boundaries and rules. With that, she should really thrive. Autumn is up to date on vaccinations. She will be spayed soon. She is located in Riverside and is ready to meet a So Cal adopter with Cattledog experience. His rescue organization is Love That Dog Hollywood, but he has been in my home as a foster. I'd be happy to share additional details or answer any questions about this wonderful little guy! (Less)

MARY! Mary is the sweet shepherd in this pic. She was rescued from a shelter and adopted. Her family has suddenly become allergic to her after having her for a year or 2. So she's back in our rescue. She is about 4 years old and about 60 pounds (with a few she could afford to lose - LOL). She's sweet as pie. Good with other dogs and kids. Not sure about cats. She's fixed, chipped, and current on her shots. She is immediate need of a new foster home, but she is also available for adoption. Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Kiah is a 4 year old purebred Australian Cattle Dog. She is spayed, microchipped and current on all vaccinations. She has spent her life in a family situation, mostly indoors. She does love to be outside, but I'm hoping to find her a family that will love and spoil her and not keep her outside all the time. She is highly trainable, and learns new things very quickly. She already knows her basic obedience commands as well as a few 'tricks'. She would be an excellent agility dog! She gets along great with our other dog and our three cats. She will, from time to time, instinctively chase the cats, but not very often. She has been known to ... (Read More)be food aggressive with our other dog, but never towards people. She is protective of our home and property, but will quickly accept strangers if she sees that we are okay with them. We unfortunately need to re-home her due to her high energy needs. We don't have the time to spend with her that she requires. We are requiring a $50 re-homing fee - please, serious inquiries only! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-08-15-00693Lucky (male)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Named Lucky because he truly is, this guy is a 5 year old Australian Cattledog who weighs about 27 pounds. Lucky is the kind of dog whose love you earn and, when you do, he is your best friend forever. He has had a rough time of it and a good samaritan stepped in to help him. Lucky, indeed. Now, he is looking for a home who doesn't mind taking it just a bit slow at first. Simple little things make all of the difference to him, such as talking to him before coming up to him, so he knows you are coming his way. Gentle leadership will help him relax and become even more wonderful than he already is. His foster mom wishes that she had fewer ... (Read More)dogs, so she could keep him. Lucky is a typically Cattledog in that he sometimes wonders about bigger dogs. He likes small dogs and would be fine with another medium-larger dog who isn't interested in being number one. He is also uninterested in the cat in the house, so should be fine with cats. Lucky is a smart guy. He learned his name in under a week. We don't know what his name was before he came to us. Also, he is house trained. He knows his basic commands: sit, stay, quiet, and come. He is initially excited to go on an adventure, but stops pulling on the leash after just a bit. He will walk right at your side, ready for whatever fun is in store. He does love car rides. He thinks that he would like to help drive by sitting on your lap. So, he is learning to stay on his side and will benefit from a dog seatbelt or crate in the car. Mostly, Lucky is a guy who wants a committed relationship. He has a cute smile, missing one tooth. When happy, he will come up and put his head on your chest. If you lay down on the floor, he is likely to come up and lay curled up against your arm. Once he loves, he loves deeply. Lucky is neutered and is current on his rabies vaccination. He will be up to date on his other vaccinations and microchipped before adoption. Lucky is ready to meet potential adopters in Southern CA. Out of area adopters will be happily referred to our favorite rescue partners. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-19-00592Magnus (male)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Magnus is a real Australian Cattledog ready for a real home, a home where his handsome, rugged good looks, full tail, and Cattledog quirks are appreciated. Magnus is 3 years old and weighs about 45 pounds. He found himself in jail and was pulled to safety just in the nick of time. Fortunately, he found himself in a Cattledog foster home where his charming personality has started to blossom. Magnus isn't just a handsome boy. He is smart, too. He knows sit, wait, shake, and is perfecting down. As a bit of a renaissance man, he is ready and able to learn more. Magnus is also polite in the house. He is house trained. He is good with most ... (Read More)dogs, but thinks of small dogs as play things, so only medium or large dogs for this guy. He has been cautious around the cat, but what smart guy wouldn't be? Magnus appreciates adventure. He is good in the car and walks politely on leash. He would appreciate a good hike or something else equally outdoorsy. He shows interest in the ball and thinks that a good game of tug is fantastic. Magnus isn't a total tough guy. He is a great cuddler. He loves to snuggle and even sings a few tunes from time to time. However, he is definitely a Cattledog, so no small kids. He would appreciate a home who knows likes a few quirks. He needs a home who knows how to manage his prey drive. He also needs work on leash reactivity, so a home that would enjoy training and possible engaging a trainer would be ideal. Magnus is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. He is ready for a forever home in Southern California. A home visit and vet reference are required to adopt Magnus. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-06-00310Minnie Pearl (female)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Meet Miss Minnie Pearl, a real pearl of a girl. She is a 7 year old pixie, weighing 29 pounds, and full of love with her long, cattledog tail. Don't let her smaller stature fool you. She is ready for an active home. Minnie is looking for a person who appreciates her love of fetching and will join in the fun. In fact, one could call Minnie a toy hoarder. She takes very good care of them and does not pull the stuffing out of her toys like some dogs do. She has been known to carry a toy with her around the house, holding it in her mouth as she walks along. Minnie Pearl currently lives with other dogs and likes them. Like all ladies, she ... (Read More)simply prefers a polite introduction upon meeting. With a few dogs, she will even play. A submissive or neutral dog would be a lovely companion for her. Miss Minnie Pearl is a very polite girl. She knows sit, wait, and off. She also walks nicely on a leash and rides politely in the car. She is ready for a person who wants to go places and take her along. Minnis is a sponge when it comes to learning. She is very interested in learning and would really blossom with additional training or even someone who wants to take her to flyball or agility. Minnie really focuses on her person. She is ready to make a deep bond and be someone's very best pal. That said, with her activity level, Minnie is not a fit for a home with kids under junior high age. Minnie is a lovely house pal. She is house trained and, if you ask, will go into her crate where she remains quietly until it is time to get out. Minnie Pearl is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and ready to meet potential adopters in Southern CA. She is being fostered in the Inland Empire. Out of area adopters will be happily referred to local rescues. A home visit and vet reference are required. (Less)

lnteresting Australian Cattle Dog Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Cattle Dogs were bred by 19th century Australian pioneers to herd cattle on large ranches. Most Australian Cattle Dogs have a star-shaped marking on their foreheads called the Bentley Mark, after dog owner Thomas Bentley, whose purebred dog supposedly passed this mark on to all genuine Australian Cattle Dogs. Australian Cattle Dogs are excellent at catching frisbees. Australian Cattle Dogs are descended from several different breeds, including Dalmatians and Smithfield Collies, which are now thought to be extinct.
