Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

Miss Oreo is a 2 year old (DOB 2/14/15) Labrador/Cattle dog blend. She's a very sweet girl. She loves children, and wants to be with a family. She loves people and other dogs. She is incredibly fond of men. We can only guess her previous owner had to have been a man. She was raised in the river bottom with her companion until they lost their housing area. She was then picked up by animal control. She's a great girl, loves squeaky toys, and loves when you talk to her. She's pretty timid right out the gate, but warms up quickly. Oreo is looking for her new forever family. Is that you?

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Kings County Animal Control officer, investigated a "home" where a young blue heeler named Pirate, was living his life on a chain, in a mess. Only to be used for breeding. I was told by Cassie, director of the shelter, the ACO took one look at the situation, and simply said, "put that dog on my truck". Pirate is now neutered and vaccinated, and safe in Paso Robles at CCHDR. He's great with other dogs, and a total, grateful, sweetheart. As with most working breed dogs, he does need to have an owner familiar with the breed and it's characteristics. Pirate is looking for his forever home - could it be you? Photos ...     Killian is a beautiful 12 month old greyhound cattle dog mix who is about 43 pounds and will probably get around 45 - 48 pounds when grown.     Meet Tate! Tate is a herder mix puppy, probably not more than 7 or 8 months old, he weighs 40 lbs so far but has some growing to do if the size of his paws is anything to go by! He was just rescued from the Riverside county facility where he had been left in the 'needs rescue' kennels in the back because he was scared out of his mind. Not anymore! Tate came out of his shell pretty quick after arriving at his foster home and is a super smart, gorgeous boy! Tate's a 'submissive happy puppy', he seems to automatically know how to respond submissively to more dominant dogs but is not scared of them, and he does great with all dogs. He is also ... (Read More)already responding really well with humans considering that he seems to have been left in a backyard without a lot of human contact. Tate picked up on walking on a leash very quick and, when off the leash in a backyard, he will automatically heel and follow! Tate is looking for someone familiar with herding dogs, who has the time to continue his socialization and training, and he would do great with another dog around. Also, Tate really needs a home where his people are around a lot and can give him the amount of one-on-one attention and exercise he needs, he has a lot of energy! Tate is currently hanging out in Huntington Beach. Interested?     Sweet Lollie lost her Mom to cancer and would love to find a new Mom to bond with. We believe her to be primarily cattle dog,she has all the wonderful traits of a herder breed; Lollie is a very intelligent, loving dog who wants nothing more than to be a companion. She is good with other dogs but shows no interest in playing with them, but if there is an existing mellow dog in the home, she will be happy to hang out with them but her primary focus is on people !. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

Young, adorable relationship-building dog in foster care really needs his forever home!! Jax, a 2.5 year-old, lean 30 lb. Cattle Dog/Am. Staff. mix, has been in foster for nearly 2 years now, most of his life. He is inherently fearful and needs to build trust through patience with a dog-savvy adopter, but he's so sweet, loving, and loyal, and builds such a strong bond once he does, it's worth every minute. He's very easily managed without any medications or special equipment. He's super intelligent, housetrained, knows how to use a doggie door, and knows lots of commands. He's also vaccinated, micropchipped, and neutered. Now all he ... (Read More)needs is to find his forever home. He has lived with two medium/large dogs and can potentially live with other appropriate, tolerant medium dogs if introduced properly. He plays very well with my medium dog. He does not get along with small dogs. He has also lived with cats and is fine with mellow ones. He will bark at them if they move erratically or show fear. He has also lived with foster kittens and has done well. He has been around older, dog-savvy kids but would not be ideal for a first-time dog owner. He is partially muzzle-trained for occasions when a situation could be too stressful for him (vet visits, exposure to unfamiliar people in new environments, etc.) He loves to go for long walks and hikes, fetch tennis balls, chew on bones and toys, and work for treats. He can also entertain himself well and does not appear to have any separation anxiety or similar issues. He just needs a place to call his own, where he feels safe and comfortable. His rescue organization is Love That Dog Hollywood, but he has been in my home as a foster. I'd be happy to share additional details or answer any questions about this wonderful little guy! (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

This red hot boy is Oxley! He was born on November 18, 2015 and weighs 51 pounds. He is looking for an active home. This guy is all that you would expect of the breed. He is very smart. He knows sit, down, come, back up, leave it, off, and wait. He knows all of the hand signals for them, too. Tricks? You bet. He also knows shake with both paws, up (on his hind legs), spin, and 'bang.' Oxley is polite in the house. He is house and crate trained. He is also polite when left alone in the house for a few hours. He is also a social boy. He is great with people, especially men. He loves to be out and about greeting people. For kids, he is too ... (Read More)rambunctious for kids under 5, but he does love kids. He greatly appreciates a good game of fetch or frisbee, too. Oxley also likes dog parks and the dog beach. He is solid off leash and has good recall. He rides wonderfully in the car and loves to go on adventures. That said, like so many Cattledogs, he can be reactive on leash. He is known to mouth the leash and even try to lead his person when the walk is paused. He can also be barky and such when walking on leash by other dogs. He has seen a few cats and likes to chase, so a home without cats is probably best. If they run, he follows. Mostly, Oxley is a fantastic play for someone who is active. He needs more than a few hours a day of solid exercise, more than just a walk. He thrives on very busy weekends. The more he is active, the better he behaves. So Cattledog, right? However, when the games are all done for the day, Oxley is a love. He is very affectionate and he forms an amazing bond with his person. Oxley is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. He is ready to meet potential adopters in SoCal. A home visit and vet reference are required. He is currently located in Long Beach.     This darling blue boy with a naturally docked tail is Quigley. He was born on July 7, 2016 and currently weighs about 22 pounds. Quigley is extra special. He came to us from a small, rural shelter where he wasn't able to get treatment for two broken legs. With time and care, he has healed beautifully and now adores running around the yard playing with other dogs. As we know, ... (Read More)a physical impairment just won't slow down a Cattledog! He quickly learned the basic house training and crate training. He is also working on his basic obedience commands with hand signals. He already knows sit and wait. He will go to his kennel if you point to it. He loves to learn and forms a wonderful bond with his people. Quigley is a sweet boy. He loves people, dogs, and even polite older kids. He will make a fantastic hiking, cuddling, best pal for the right home. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on his shots. HE is ready to meet potential adopters in SoCal. A home visit and vet reference are required. Only homes with another dog and who have either Cattledog experience or deaf dog experience will be considered. (Less)

She'll have many more big days from here on out. I was told she was HIGH energy... nope, she's a normal dog.     Moe is red and has a tail, about 9 yrs old. Both Moe and his buddy Mickey are in Huntington Beach, southern chapter of CCHD Rescue. They were left by their owner, at Riverside Animal Control, with a third dog, a female, and she was adopted by the public. It's tougher for the boys... Anyway, they are safe here. Very nice calm guys. They will be adopted out separately. We've seen better dog dynamics. They'll be better in different homes than together. They are being fostered with several other dogs and a cat. Both will soon be available for adoption and heading to Paso Robles. More information as we get to know these guys. Interested? Photos ...     Mickey is blue and doesn't have a tail (no judgement please, this was not his or our choice), about 6 yrs old. And hanging out in Paso Robles, far from SEAACA, the shelter he was yanked out of. One of three left by their owner, at Riverside Animal Control, the female was adopted by the public. It's tougher for the boys... (We have his housemate, Moe, as well.) Mick is safe and happy here. The mellowest dog ever, can keep up with the best of them too. We love this guy! He's proven to be fine around horses, and maybe was a trail dog, he followed the neighbors kid on his horse! He's great with kids. He's great with everyone. And the more he ... (Read More)gets to know who you are, the more you know who he is. Each day, Mick's showing me more personality and affection. Mick has been on some successful pack outings. Great off leash. Hops in and out of the van, he's been proven cool around horses and kids. This guy has been around the farm before! Sticks close by off leash. He's about perfect as far as I can tell. Available now folks... He prefers a person who likes to have a partner but doesn't want to cuddle. Wallie is all business. He would rather sleep in his own bed. He would rather fetch than be pet. Cici is polite in the house. She is house trained. She also loves to hop on the couch and hang out with her person when the day's fun is done. She does have a penchant for nibbling on socks and underwear, but she is a puppy. It's easy to just make sure that clothes aren't left on the floor. Cici would love an active home that is interested in also giving her more training. She likes to learn. She is also just a bit shy when going to new places, so her new people should be ready to let her settle in and take it slow at first. Otherwise, she is a darling and friendly girl who will make a wonderful best friend. Cici is ready to meet potential adopters in So Cal. Cici is not up to date on vaccinations, is not microchipped, and is not spayed. The owners will try to get her spayed prior to adoption, but we can't guarantee that. Rescue Me ID: 17-02-22-00017Jackson (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Jackson is the perfect dog for anyone wanting an easy going, happy, friendly, loving, and devoted companion. For a cattle dog mix, he is a medium-low energy guy, with the great cattle dog traits of being eager to please, extremely intelligent, and extremely loyal. Jackson is always up for whatever you may want to do, and makes a lot of eye contact to look for a sign from you. He adores all people and would make a wonderful addition to any family. Jackson is approximately 8 years old, and weighs approximately 30 lbs. He is a quiet boy, who rarely barks. Jackson loves to hang out with people. He loves being petted almost as much as getting ... (Read More)treats. He will come up to you, then bounce up and down to let you know he's excited or eager for something. Sometimes he will approach you and place his paw on you to ask for petting or cuddling. He is great with anyone coming to the house and property. Those who know him have never seen any aggression from Jackson towards anyone. Jackson and his Rottweiler brother, Truman, have been living outside with little human attention, since their person passed away last summer. Friends and relatives reached out to rescues to help find loving new homes for each of these dogs. While the two dogs are great together, it is believed that they would be fine in different homes, as long as they have loving human attention and companionship. Although Jackson is a lower medium energy guy, he has a happy, enthusiastic spirit. When he knows you are giving out treats, he will leap up and down with excitement that cookies are to be had! Although, currently, Jackson seems like a lower energy dog, we believe it is because he and Truman are alone outside most of the time, with little to do. He may show more energy, once he is in a home, where he can get regular walks, more human interaction and mental stimulation. People who know him well, said that if given the attention and opportunity, Jackson would likely enjoy playing fetch or other games. He also knows a few commands, such as sit, stay, come, and no. Jackson is fine around cats, and other dogs. He has a very good natured and balanced personality. He tends to be more submissive when around dogs with a stronger personality. With his brother Truman, he will politely wait his turn for petting after Truman moves away. Jackson would do well in a household with other dogs, and cats, or as an only dog, enjoying in all the attention. Although, currently Jackson must live outside all the time, he is housebroken, and loves being inside the house. When his person was alive and brought the dogs inside, he would place a blanket down for each dog, and they would know to lie down on their spot. To our knowledge, Jackson has never been in a crate. He is a very good car passenger. He will hop in the car and sit quietly in the back seat. He walks nicely on leash or off leash. When on walks, he will stay at or return to your side if you tell him to. He loves going with people on walks on or off leash. Jackson still has plenty of life in him, and would benefit from more activity and regular walks. The rest of the time he would be happy to follow his person around or sit by your side. If you may be interested in meeting Jackson to either foster or adopt, please begin by completing our online adoption form, at hittgv.org. Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Very High Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Fearful/Anxious

His name is Wallie and is 1.5 years old. We rescued him from Madera Animal Shelter (53% kill rate) last April. We were told he was 5 months, turned out the poor guy was sitting in there for 3 months and they had no idea. He was found on the streets, so his history is minimal except for what we have learned over the last 9 months. So let me start with his good qualities. He is an incredibly sweet dog. He is a very soft hearted boy. He could play, chew, and run all day and night if you allowed him (doing all that together if he could). Oh wait, he does play fetch and chew his tennis balls up all within the time of returning. He knows ... (Read More)quite a bit as far as obedience. Sit, down, drop it, leave it, coming when called, stay, wait at the door, spin, go to bed, go to crate, and he can close cabinet doors. He is also learning his left from his right paw, doing very well. He's very intelligent young man. He loves to play with other dogs. He's ok with cats with supervision. He chased them when we first got him, and with some training he does understand he is to allow them to be. Wallie, however, is a special dog. He has a form of autism for dogs. He does not like to be touched, but likes to touch you. He will allow you to touch him, but does not like it. He would be best in a home with someone who knows cattle dogs very well. He can be around teenage children, but I would be weary of young children that move quickly. He will nip if someone he doesn't know if they come behind him and pet him. He's not aggressive by any means. He can walk by people with no problems at all. In fact he goes to work with me with no incidences. He does get a little distracted when other dogs are around, but comes down with time. He has been working with a behaviorist at K9 Ambassadors since August. He has come a long way. However, I am not a strong enough trainer to handle him. He is only my second dog, and even though I have learned so much more on dog handling, its not fair to him with my lack of knowledge. He is up to date with shots, and had an extensive check up on his body structure in December and everything came back fine. He needs a special type of home and I hope you can help. (Less)

Some training but when excited wants to jump on you if you are the one to tell him no and push him back he's fine if someone else tries to pull him away he snaps and scratches at you. He has been around my grandson and 3 other dogs, and is good but has snaped at grandson. Inconsistent when he gets excited. Don't want to take the chance of possible biting my grandson. He bit and scratched at our daughter-in-law when she took a sucker away from Calvin who had just taken it from our grandson. Ended up with several scratches that we put band aids on.

When you want total love and devotion, two adoring fans are always better than one! With Ollie and Dottie, you get a wonderful two for one deal. These two beautiful girls were surrendered to a good samaritan when their person passed away. He simply had to make sure that these two loving girls got a fantastic home. Now, Ollie (Olivia) and Dottie are ready to find that forever home. Ollie and Dottie are at that perfect Cattledog age, 7 and 5. They are over the puppy silliness and have plenty of energy for lots of adventures. They love to go for walks and hikes. They are nice on leash and ride nicely in the car, though they do like to ride ... (Read More)shotgun so they can help you navigate. They are even good off leash once they know who their person is. Ollie and Dottie are smarties. They are living a relaxed life at the moment but have learned to come when called and also when called to eat. They love to eat. They have also come a long way from being outside dogs to house trained. They are eager to learn and really focus on their person. As is usual with Cattledogs, Ollie and Dottie prefer polite introductions to dogs. That said, after the introduction, they are lovely. They live with two other Cattledogs and cause no problems. As for people, they have learned how much fun it is to meet new people. They went from nervous to eager. Now, on walks, they can't wait to meet new folks. These girls have such big hearts. They are very devoted to their people and they are very devoted to each other. They have to be adopted together since they rely on each other. They even give each other kisses! Ideally, they would love someone who will really appreciate how sweet they are, enjoy having two shadows instead of just one, and will let them sleep in the bed. Ollie and Dottie are spayed and up to date on vaccinations. They are wonderful girls ready to meet potential adopters in So Cal. A home visit and vet reference are required. (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Male Dogs Only, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This beautiful girl is Zippity Do Dawg, or Zippy for short. She was born in March, 2012, so is 5 years old. For those of us with herding dog experience, we know that this is an ideal age for this breed. This darling, spayed female Australian Cattle Dog was saved in the nick of time from near death at a local shelter. She was adopted to a wonderful older lady who recently passed away. Now, she needs a new home. She prefers a home with adults or possibly with older kids. Zippy is 5 years old, approximately 35 pounds, and knows her basic obedience: sit, stay, leave it, and lay down. She is also house and crate trained. She has been snippy ... (Read More)in the past with other dogs in the household and other visiting dogs, especially other female dogs, so she is looking for a home where she is the only dog and she can be a total shadow to her person. If there is another dog, it should be a lower energy male who is polite. This sweet girl is all about love. She is a bit velcro and likes to snuggle on the couch with her person. She has an average to lower heeler energy level and loves to be with her people. However, if you turn on the sprinkler, she turns zippy and will jump in for action. If you turn on the hose, she loves to bite the water. Zippy rides nicely in the car, often sleeping until you get to your destination. She also walks nicely on a leash. Zippy is ready for her forever home. She is microchipped, spayed, heart worm negative, and fully vaccinated. A vet reference and home visit are required as part of the adoption process.     It doesn't get any sweeter than Snarfles. This darling little Cattledog mix found himself in a shelter with a seriously bad case of Secondary Acanthuses NIgricans (or for those of us non-medical types- long term neglect left his hair and skin in horrible shape). Now he is healing, his charming personality is coming out, and he is looking for a forever home who is willing to love him as his hair finishes growing in. Snarfles is between 5-6 years old and weighs about 33 pounds. He is a gentle, low key boy who is a social butterfly. He loves everyone that he meets: people, dogs, and cats. He even likes the vet! Snarfles is a very nice boy in ... (Read More)the house. He is house and crate trained. He adores people and loves to cuddle and be held. Heck, he is even looks dashing in a sweater. He will do anything for food. He can hear a treat bag open from the other side of the house and will bark to let you know that he wants one immediately! If you want a fun little buddy who will root for your sports team, hang out with you on the couch, and snack with you, this guy is your dog. That said, he is wonderful on leash and great in a car. So, when it's time to work off the calories from eating snacks, he is ready to keep you company on walks and hikes. Mostly, Snarfles is looking for an amazing home who will see the beauty in his heart. He adores attention and is almost surprised when he gets it. He blossoms more every day and will be a fantastic pal for someone. Snaffles is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Puppy

I am a gorgeous, sweet, friendly, happy, male, microchipped, young Australian Cattle Dog puppy looking for my forever loving home. I was born September 8th 2016. I am a happy dog, love to run and fetch and be closest to my family all day long - once I find them. I had a bad start into life, my former owner kept me outside as a yard dog and I have been neglected, and not taken care off. I was so thirsty that one day when I found liquid in the yard I tried to drink it to smooth my throat but it burnt so bad before I could swallow and caused chemical burn in my mouth and on my tongue. My rescue came straight for me on New Year's eve and took me ... (Read More)to Southern California Specialty Hospital in Irvine, where the kind Dr. and staff washed my mouth carefully and gave me pain medication and put me on IV fluids as I was dehydrated. They made me stay comfortably over night until I was released to my foster family to heal and enjoy a life and love and TLC and education. I am best suited with an active family, with a secure fenced yard to exercise in and drain my energy. I am a real candidate for a family/person who wants a buddy for hiking, walking, jogging. I am also a real candidate for agility and obedience. Right now I am in need of some training as I am still a puppy, to become the loyal family dog you are looking for. I am not a couch potato at all and physically and mentally best stimulated when I get work. I require regular daily exercise. I am considered a family dog so I am primary indoors. I am smart and intelligent, as my breed belongs to the easy trainable ones - however when there is something in for me - like a treat - I don't say no. My new parents should have breed experience. Enrolling me in a puppy kindergarten class is a great start. Inviting visitors over regularly, and taking me to busy parks, stores that allow dogs, and on leisurely strolls to meet neighbors will also help me polish my social skills. Yours with a happy tailwag! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-01-04-00449Whiskey (male)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Whiskey is a very active, 11 month old, 42 lb. cattle dog pup. He is a super playful and fun-loving guy, with a seemingly limitless capacity to play and race around.%A0He loves all variety of toys and is learning to play fetch. He is confident and curious about the world. Because he was not taken out or socialized much before we took him in, he a little cautious and protective when first encountering new things, people and other dogs. However, Whiskey's basic nature is a gentle, submissive dog, who is very friendly and wants to please his people. When he's chill, he is a sweet pup, who enjoys cuddling and giving kisses.%A0 Our guy fits ... (Read More)the classic description of his breed. Whiskey is a very high energy cattle dog, with a lot of stamina. He is a very smart, thinking dog, with the courageous, pushy, persistent quality that is needed to keep the cattle in line. He is strong and athletic, and enjoys being physical. Whiskey has much of what we love about this breed. He has an exuberant, silly nature, and a cattle dog's ability to make you laugh. He also very much wants to please his person, and is extremely loving with the human and canine members of his pack. Whiskey would be a great companion and helper with livestock, or some other daily physical activity. He could be a tireless sport dog for agility, fly ball, etc. Whiskey would love to be in a home with another dog for him to play with. Our boy is so full of puppy energy and loves playing with his canine foster sisters so much, that he can exhaust his playmates. Whiskey is a little mouthy, but he's learning.%A0When playing, he likes to give herding nips to other dogs, in a playful way. In a multi-dog household, Whiskey would need work to learn how to respect and be polite to the other dog(s). Currently, he is an adoring, but pesky little brother to his foster sister. He constantly pounces on her to engage her in play, or leaps on her as he races across the room to fetch a toy. Also, His Pushiness he will try to squeeze himself between his foster dad and his dog sister, while making comical howling sounds. Whiskey has been great with his foster's 11 year old nephew and 13 year old niece. He may be a little too active for young children and toddlers.%A0He also became best buddies with a small, 6 year old, male dog who stayed with them. Because of his rough sense of play, we do not recommend Whiskey for a home with cats. Like a small child Whiskey doesn't want the fun to end. If he is too rambunctious and his foster ushers him into his crate, he will complain with a bark or whine, before finally settling down. However, he will frequently choose go into his crate on his own, when he wants to nap or it's bedtime. Whiskey is mostly quiet, but he can also be vocal, expressing his moods with different sounds.%A0Our boy will often growl his discomfort about new things, which his foster believe will stop, as he learns the ways of the world around him.%A0He will use his cattle dog high pitched bark, when he wants to play. HIs foster is teaching Whiskey to have an inside voice.%A0 Before we rescued him, Whiskey was rapidly growing into a 'teenager' without knowing any rules or boundaries. He did know the basic commands: sit and down, when treats are involved, and come. Although Whiskey is just now beginning to learn proper behaviors in different situations, he can still be a wild child at times. His adopter(s) will need to continue the work we have begun, and be a patient, unwavering leader, who is up to the challenge of providing consistent guidance and training.%A0While Whiskey has a mind of his own, he is now starting to learn boundaries. He seems to be improving a little each day.%A0Once he understands the rules and learns manners, he will grow into a wonderful partner and loyal companion. As with many cattle dog pups, Whiskey is playful mouthy, but learning the proper limits of play. Whiskey is still in his youthful chewing stage, and will need a variety of chew toys to keep him busy during quiet time inside. As a curious, explorer, he will follow his nose and get into trash and things within his reach. Fortunately, he takes reprimands and corrections quite well from both his canine and human fosters. Whiskey does NOT guard food or resources (toys, treats, special person). When he knows he has done wrong, he becomes very submissive. It seems Whiskey was never exposed to the sights and sounds of a neighborhood. On his first few walks, he seemed quite insecure and defensive, growling, pulling and barking at nearly everything he encountered. He is now learning how to behave when encountering other dogs, and fast moving things, but is still very alert and tense when outside the safety and familiarity of the house.%A0He will need continued, regular, exposure to everyday life in order to gradually become more confident and calm on walks. Whiskey enjoys car rides, but continues to be alert and vocal about unfamiliar things outside. (Less)

Tica is a sweet girl, but life before I rescued her may not have been. Tica is very fearful of strangers. She has come a long way in the year that I've had her, but she needs a home outside the city, preferably on a large piece of property where she will not come into contact with people. Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Seizures

[Read About Natural Seizure Care] This darling girl is Nettie. She is a Cattledog/Border Collie mix who was born into rescue. Because she is a special needs girl, she needs a special home. Nettie weight about 40 pounds and is a happy girl. She loves people and loves to play with other dogs. Nettie has lots of friends. She plays and runs around the yard with other dogs (see the video). She is also polite with cats. She is a very social girl with people, too. She is good in the car and is a favorite at the pet food store and vet's office. Nettie knows to go to her crate for bed-time. She also knows sit. She is house trained and appreciates a ... (Read More)schedule that allows her to go out a bit more frequently than some other dogs. Nettie's herding dog smarts are helping her to adjust to a case of epilepsy that came upon her as a younger puppy. With regular medication and comfort in her environment, Nettie's seizures have been under control. She seeks a home with people who are home more than not, like to have fun and cuddle on a very pretty and soft girl, and will keep up the structure that keeps her happy and healthy. She would also like a home where she can be on the furniture, since she does like to act like a mountain goat from time to time. With a face like that, who minds? Nettie is spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and microchipped. She is ready to meet potential adoptive homes in SoCal. A home visit and a vet reference are required. (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Grace is an extremely smart, loving, and athletic 2-3 year old, cattle dog and border collie mix with a real desire to work. She weighs 38 lbs., and is a moderate energy girl.%A0Grace is shy at first; but once you gain her trust, she is extremely affectionate and will dive into your arms, kiss your face, and then tuck her head under your chin and paw at you for more love. Being close to and loved by her person, is what Grace wants more than anything else. She doesn't play with most toys, but does enjoy playing tug of war with a rope toy.%A0Tug can be used a training reward and a way to build a special bond with her person. %A0 Grace's ... (Read More)fosters have been working with her every day on training, and to socialize her. She is as smart as they come, eager to please, and a fast learner, who loves her training sessions. She loves to trick-train and knows approximately 30 cues.%A0Some of her favorites include: rebounding off of walls, jumping over hurdles, spinning, and performing a figure-8 around her handler's legs.%A0She usually learns tricks within 10 repetitions, at which point, a hand signal can be introduced.%A0Within a few training sessions, the trick can be put on a verbal cue.%A0 Grace was given a herding aptitude test. The trainer said that with a patient handler, she could definitely be a good working herder. Grace loves to climb and balance on objects.%A0 %A0 When Grace's foster family first found her, she was very fearful. For the first few weeks, she army crawled throughout their house because she was afraid of the ceiling (it was likely her first time being inside).%A0She would freeze and then react if she saw a stranger (person or dog) over 400 ft. away.%A0She could not be in the same room with other dogs, and would even bark/react to dogs through a baby gate.%A0 %A0 In the few months that she has spent with her fosters, she has progressed a great deal. On leashed walks, she is able to walk within 30 ft. of other dogs and 15 ft. of strange humans, and still remain focused on her handler. If another dog barks at her, especially from behind a fence/barrier she will definitely bark back. She is alarmed by quick movements and wants to chase. She also reacts this way with squirrels and cats encountered on walks. With more rewards based training, she can learn to remain calm during these types of distractions. %A0 Grace is basically a submissive dog, who has only started learning how to live with other creatures in the past few months. She is continuing to improve, but still has some issues being around other dogs, especially when the dogs are moving. She can be in the same room with other dogs, but she tries to herd them if they move around too much. For this reason, she would do best in a home with no other dogs, or a much older dog, or a home where she could be kept separate from other dogs for a while in order to provide a slow introduction. During most of the day, she is in the house, where she is most relaxed and happy. Grace is calm in the house. When Grace isn't training or loving her people, she hangs out quietly in her crate. She is always crated while her fosters are away. Her crate is her safe space, and should be a part of her forever home.%A0Because Grace is a world-class athlete, she cannot be left unattended in a backyard. She could easily climb over (or dig under) a 6 ft. fence. Grace is completely housebroken. Grace is also getting more relaxed on car rides, since nearly all her rides have been to do fun things. We recommend that she ride in a crate when in the car. Grace is usually a very quiet girl, who just wants to hang out with her people and work with them. The only times can be a bit barky is when she is working on new tricks, and when her people leave her.%A0She will bark for a few minutes when her people leave, but quickly quiets down. We believe that Grace would be be happy in a home with a small yard and a person who enjoys training activities. Grace is NOT recommended for someone with an active (running, hiking) lifestyle, or who wants to take her everywhere with them. Since Grace is just now learning to meet people without panicking, we do not recommend her for a home with children, who can make sudden unpredictable moves.%A0 In summary, Grace is a sweet, loving girl, with incredible potential, who has had some extreme unknown trauma in her past. Grace is making excellent progress with her fosters, but her adopter(s) will need to continue the work. She is NOT for a novice dog owner. Her ideal forever home should provide plenty of time for her to bond with her person. She needs TLC, patience, reassurance, encouragement, and slow positive exposure to new things. Quiet country life would be best. Busy neighborhoods/urban living/dog parks are NOT for her.%A0 If you are interested in meeting Grace, please first complete our online adoption form, at hittgv.org. Go to the Adopt button near the top of the page, and scroll down for the online form. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-27-00556Cisco (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Cisco is approximately 3 years old and weighs 45 lbs. He is a charming, incredibly loving, smart, silly, playful and sometimes pushy cattle dog, who adores human attention. Cisco's natural core personality is a submissive, goofy, impish guy with a fun loving sense of humor. He loves cuddling, and often wakes up his foster mom in the morning with a sweet cuddle and kisses. As a cattle dog, he quickly bonds with 'his' people and dogs and wants to be right next to them all the time. He is very responsive and super obedient, with an overwhelming desire to do the right thing and please. He is easy when handled 'ۥ and allows his fosters to ... (Read More)touch his ears, face, and paws easily. When petted, he relaxes and often lays down for belly rubs (which he loves). However, he is also a work in progress. Due to his unknown traumatic past, he can be extremely reactive when first encountering some dogs and people. Once he gets over his initial reactiveness and figures out that he is safe, he is fun and super loving with people and other dogs. For this reason, he is only available to adopters who have extensive experience working with reactive dogs. It is clear that before we rescued Cisco, he was never exposed to or learned things that most household dogs know from an early age. We do not believe he had ever been walked on leash before coming to us. He tends to wander from side to side, but is learning how to walk nicely on leash. He will tug hard when he reacts to another dog or sees a squirrel, but he is mostly gentle and easygoing on leash. Cisco, also did not know how to play with toys when we first rescued him, but now he has his favorites. Initially, he was nervous about getting in the car, but he has learned to enjoy car rides to fun destinations. He will ride nicely in the backseat or in the front as your co-pilot. Cisco has two HITTGV fosters working with him. As he is being exposed to positive and fun new experiences, and is learning new things, his fosters can see his confidence grow each day. After being reactive when he first met his fosters' dogs, and was nervous about his male foster, he settled in to great relationships with both foster people and their dogs. Cisco does have a difficult time when seeing some dogs and people during walks, and we have opted to use a soft muzzle for him, because in his panicked response to seeing unfamiliar dogs, he sometimes reacts by pulling and snapping indiscriminately, and may accidentally bite those standing nearest to him. His fosters are working with professional trainers, and are making progress in reducing Cisco's reactiveness. At his foster home, Cisco has shown great manners in the house (he's house trained). He is very observant, and a super smart, quick learner, and quickly learned several basic commands%BD%BD%BD'%BDsit, stay, off, leave it, etc. He now sits patiently before he gets his food and to have his leash put on. At mealtimes, once he's done eating, he waits politely for his foster sisters to finish eating before he goes over to lick and polish both their bowls to a high shine. He has a crate that he willingly goes into when told 'in your bed.' He will sometimes take naps in it on his own. He loves to engage his foster sisters in play with them, but he doesn't show any possessiveness over toys or other resources. He can be pushy with other dogs, but in a friendly, cattle dog way. He is mostly submissive with his foster sisters, but will sometimes take toys away from them. He would need to be paired with a happy, tolerant dog who wouldn't mind this, as he learns more manners. Our boy is full of personality. He has a cheerful and goofy sense of play. He enjoys both roughhousing and gentle play with each of his canine foster sisters. He loves wrestling and playing 'bitey face' with other dogs, and shows very good bite inhibition. He will sometimes playfully (not hard) grab their legs or tails in his mouth. He is a bit klutzy, and his comical nature, makes his fosters laugh throughout the day. Cisco enjoys carry his foster mom's socks around the house - he doesn't chew or destroy them, just likes to parade around with them. He requires daily exercise, but once he gets it, he is generally relaxed and calm for the rest of the day. He seems to have a little separation anxiety, as he does not like to be left alone. Cisco IS an adorable and loving young dog, with one major issue. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Angus, a handsome, 7 year old Cattledog mix. He is a fun, active guy looking for a home where he can be an active partner. For those who know this breed, you will know that this is an ideal age. He is full of action but has none of the puppy craziness that lasts in Cattledogs for the first few years. Angus is polite and ready for adventure. Angus is smart, as you would expect with this breed, and has had some professional training. He is good on leash and rides nicely in the car. He is also crate trained and house trained. He would be a wonderful work-out buddy. He is all that you would anticipate. He is loyal and looks to his ... (Read More)person to engage with him. He does alert when someone comes to the house, so it is helpful if someone has breed experience to know how to thank him for alerting and then ask him to stand down. Angus is a social guy and enjoys companionship with his people. He is nice with men, women, and even children. He has been around horses and other dogs and does well. He is an affectionate guy who also loves to play. Squeaky toys are a big hit with him. Angus is ready for his forever home. Breed experience and a vet check are required to adopt Angus. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-11-20-00205Rojo (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Low Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Rojo is a wonderful 9 month old red heeler mix. She was rescued from a kill shelter in San Antonio, and driven her back to California in late June of this year. She is quick as a whip - super smart, eager to please and loving. She was an ease to potty train, and learned her basic commands ( sit, stay, come, let's go, tap) in just one or two lessons. She knows 'in your house' for her kennel, and 'in your bed' for her crate. She is currently is working on her mat and muzzle training, and has learned to open the back door to let herself out for her business, Though she can very shy, and sometimes fearful of strangers -- she is incredibly ... (Read More)loving and loyal to 'her people', and is one of the most affectionate heelers we've known. Her energy level is good, but on the lower side for a ACD her age. Though she is playful, she spends a good deal of the day napping. When left alone uncrated for short periods of up to 3 hours, she displays no unusual or undesirable behavior (though she does appreciate a good chew toy/antler). She does display consistent fear of other dogs as well as aggressive resource guarding around food, and toys. She has been working with a trainer on her social fears, and is able to tolerate other dogs at a distance of 20 feet, It is recommended Rojo be placed in a single dog household. Rojo has very little experience with other pets, and with children. Rojo has displayed inconsistencies with her fear of people. She is often (but not always) fearful of strangers, and displays the greatest fear toward large bearded men, and women with loud pitchy voices. That being said, she does really well with after she feel safe around a new person - this often takes two calm and treat oriented visits for her to loos her inhibitions. It is assumed this pup had a difficult first 3 months as a stray on the streets of San Antonio, and displays fear reactions in over stimulating environments, She has been working with a trainer on integrating her into city life. She takes regular walks in safe areas to work on her fear of the unknown, and it seems she is making progress. That being said, we believe she will do much better in a less stressful/stimulating environment. She would also need to be placed in a household that is familiar with the cattle dog breed. Rojo has been spayed and is current on all of her medical needs. We are happy to arrange transportation for perspective adopters. Questions are welcome, We are willing to offer any information needed by prospective adopters to help ensure she has a happy, loving, and safe forever home.' (Less)

5 year old neutered male Queensland heeler mix that we are seeking a new home for. Looking for a loving home for this very smart, very loyal dog. Loves people but doesn't like our male jack Russell (this is why we are re-homing him). Would probably chase cats, so would be better in a home without cats or other dogs. Small children would not be a good match since he has a very strong herding instinct and would chase and likely knock them down. Needs lots of exexcise and gets anxious if not exercised enough. A large yard, or even better, land to run around on would be ideal. Potty trained. Crate trained (loves to sleep in his crate). His crate ... (Read More)and bed will come with him. All vet records supplied. Up to date with shots. Microchipped. Sad to give him up but realise it is best for him and his happiness. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

High energy, lovable dog I rescued from the SPCA 3 months ago. She is an amazing cuddlier, house trained, and great with humans. She is also fine with dogs off leash outdoors, occasionally plays rough or aggressive with small reactive type dogs. However, she is very reactive on leash and despite intensive training for 3 months is unable o be near other dogs on the street or in an enclosed space with other dogs. These situations cause her to get very anxious and stressed and become aggressive. She has never marked or actually bitten another dog but makes alot of noise/growling/barking and pins the other dog. For this reason also I recommend ... (Read More)no small children in the house although she has been around children and very playful. I love her dearly and will only give her to another home that is rural or backyard and can reduce the stressful times she has to be around other dogs on leash (like she has to do in my city apartment). She also requires daily outdoor running and playing. She loves to fetch sticks, play tug o war, swim and is overall an extremely goofy, playful fun dog. Please only contact if serious and experienced dog owner. Contact me by email and I can respond with phone number. (Less)

Special needs girl needs special home. Honey was found near death in a mud puddle in a field across from my home after her previous owner dumped her off to die. She had a very large mass on her hind leg and a severely infected uterus known as pyometra. I opted to give this sweet girl a fighting chance and rushed her into surgery. She has made a huge turnaround! The mass was removed and she was spayed and placed on a round of heavy duty antibiotics which she has completed. Her incisions are healed and she is ready to find her forever home. While Honey is as sweet as her name she does have a few issues that will require a home with ... (Read More)knowledge and patience. Honey is significantly deaf and has separation anxiety. Also her breed can be a bit nippy when scared and she has displayed this behavior toward new dogs and men. Honey does not do well with cats. She is fully housebroken and knows a few hand signal commands. She also loves to cuddle with her person and is not a high energy dog. She is perfectly happy napping on the couch all day.     Named Lucky because he truly is, this guy is a 5 year old Australian Cattledog who weighs about 27 pounds. Lucky is the kind of dog whose love you earn and, when you do, he is your best friend forever. He has had a rough time of it and a good samaritan stepped in to help him. Lucky, indeed. Now, he is looking for a home who doesn't mind taking it just a bit slow at first. Simple little things make all of the difference to him, such as talking to him before coming up to him, so he knows you are coming his way. Gentle leadership will help him relax and become even more wonderful than he already is. His foster mom wishes that she had fewer ... (Read More)dogs, so she could keep him. Lucky is a typically Cattledog in that he sometimes wonders about bigger dogs. He likes small dogs and would be fine with another medium-larger dog who isn't interested in being number one. He is also uninterested in the cat in the house, so should be fine with cats. Lucky is a smart guy. He learned his name in under a week. We don't know what his name was before he came to us. Also, he is house trained. He knows his basic commands: sit, stay, quiet, and come. He is initially excited to go on an adventure, but stops pulling on the leash after just a bit. He will walk right at your side, ready for whatever fun is in store. He does love car rides. He thinks that he would like to help drive by sitting on your lap. So, he is learning to stay on his side and will benefit from a dog seatbelt or crate in the car. Mostly, Lucky is a guy who wants a committed relationship. He has a cute smile, missing one tooth. When happy, he will come up and put his head on your chest. If you lay down on the floor, he is likely to come up and lay curled up against your arm. Once he loves, he loves deeply. Lucky is neutered and is current on his rabies vaccination. He will be up to date on his other vaccinations and microchipped before adoption. Lucky is ready to meet potential adopters in Southern CA. Out of area adopters will be happily referred to our favorite rescue partners. (Less)

This beautiful and spunky six year old cattle dog/shepherd mix is Bella. Bella is incredibly loyal and attentive, and loves to show how well she can sit, share a paw, 'leave it' and lay down. She has been housebroken since she was very young and always lets someone know when she needs a potty break. Bella is also excellent on a leash and has a lot of energy so walks and jogs are her favorite activities. She is happiest around 'family', since she's a shy and anxious girl and being surrounded by new people is stressful for her. When she's feeling stressed or scared, Bella likes to seek out cozy tight spaces and will also bark when strangers ... (Read More)are around to protect her home and family, but she NEVER bites. She plays well with other dogs but has never spent much time with children. Her current owner is recently divorced and travels extensively for work in addition to being in school part-time, so Bella is home alone or boarded often and isn't getting the love and attention she needs and deserves.     Meet Miss Minnie Pearl, a real pearl of a girl. She is a 6 year old pixie, weighing 29 pounds, and full of love with her long, cattledog tail. Don't let her smaller stature fool you. She is ready for an active home. Minnie is looking for a person who appreciates her love of fetching and will join in the fun. In fact, one could call Minnie a toy hoarder. She takes very good care of them and does not pull the stuffing out of her toys like some dogs do. She has been known to carry a toy with her around the house, holding it in her mouth as she walks along. Minnie Pearl currently lives with other dogs and likes them. Like all ladies, she ... (Read More)simply prefers a polite introduction upon meeting. With a few dogs, she will even play. A submissive or neutral dog would be a lovely companion for her. Miss Minnie Pearl is a very polite girl. She knows sit, wait, and off. She also walks nicely on a leash and rides politely in the car. She is ready for a person who wants to go places and take her along. Minnis is a sponge when it comes to learning. She is very interested in learning and would really blossom with additional training or even someone who wants to take her to flyball or agility. Minnie really focuses on her person. She is ready to make a deep bond and be someone's very best pal. That said, with her activity level, Minnie is not a fit for a home with kids under junior high age. Minnie is a lovely house pal. She is house trained and, if you ask, will go into her crate where she remains quietly until it is time to get out. Minnie Pearl is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations, and ready to meet potential adopters in Southern CA. She is being fostered in the Inland Empire. Out of area adopters will be happily referred to local rescues. A home visit and vet reference are required. (Less)

Rain 'found' us Aug. '15. For a week, whenever she caught sight of us she'd run and hide. She came to trust us, wag her tail, and gained a good amount of weight. She initially blended into our 'pack' of a male Boxer and a female Pitt mix while we looked for her owner(s). We made mistakes -- being naive about the attention needs and energy levels of not only her breed (we're going by 'looks' for breed) but of our two 'home dogs'. We did not 'drain' Rain's energy sufficiently to maintain balance in the 'pack'. Rain and the Pitt mix can not be alone with one another as they have fought. She does well with the Boxer. It's unclear if it's ... (Read More)because of being male or because of his non-alpha temperament. She has also played well with a male lab on a few occasions. We know she has growled and snarled at visitors, but it's also unclear if that comes from insecurity or from some negative experience she's had. Bottom line: We're sorry we can not keep her. If we didn't have two 'high energy' dogs, or just the Boxer, we DEFINITELY would keep Rain. We want her to find a safe, caring, balanced 'pack leader' who understands (better than we did) the need for exercise for her breed. Rain needs 'a job'. Our 'pack' needs stability returned. She rides EXTREMELY well in the cars. She tethers well when needed. Walks fairly well on lead. Comes when called better than any other dog we've had. She is SWEET and BRIGHT. Rain is a great little dog. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting an Australian Cattle Dog in California
Australian Cattle Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Cattle Dog is one of the most intelligent dog breeds, needing a lot of attention to stave off boredom. A neglected Australian Cattle Dog can become destructive. Australian Cattle Dogs have strong herding instincts and behave best when they have plenty of space and a job to do. Australian Cattle Dogs are well suited to farms and homes with large yards; they do not do well confined to an apartment or other small space. Australian Cattle Dogs are loyal and very obedient with attentive training. An Australian Cattle Dog tends not to do well with children unless it has known them since it was a puppy. Australian Cattle Dogs may be very close to their masters and reluctant to accept other people.

lnteresting Australian Cattle Dog Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Cattle Dogs were bred by 19th century Australian pioneers to herd cattle on large ranches. Most Australian Cattle Dogs have a star-shaped marking on their foreheads called the Bentley Mark, after dog owner Thomas Bentley, whose purebred dog supposedly passed this mark on to all genuine Australian Cattle Dogs. Australian Cattle Dogs are excellent at catching frisbees.
