Rescue Me ID: 18-01-14-00172Maggie (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Senior

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Maggie is incredibly loyal, healthy and active . She wants nothing more than to love her family. She loves to snuggle, have belly rubs and scratches. She loves to sit outside and soak up the sun. She would be best in a home where she could be alpha dog or by herself. She has not been around cats but would likely be okay. Maggie doesn't really bark unless she feels she needs to protect her home or her humans. She wouldn't do well in a kennel as that causes her anxiety along with fireworks. Maggie is eager to seek the love and attention of any human stranger. She does well with children;however has expressed her frustration with that child ... Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Courtesy post for my neighbors. Arya is gorgeous 3. y.o. border collie- heeler mix, healthy, fixed, all shots, house-trained. Sweet with adults but unfortunately Arya doesn't like small children and this is why they are rehoming her. She is the only dog so probably would be the best to keep it this way. Mature household only, no cats or young kids. Her fees will be donated to non profit rescue, owners just want to find her safe secure home where she can be loved and cared for.

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Finny is a really good boy. He is sweet with people, takes a bit to warm up to men, but is fine once he does. He is obedient, fully house-trained, loves walks and is a great guard dog. He just doesn't get along with other dogs. It breaks my heart to re-home him, but we have another dog who has been a bit traumatized by his outbursts.

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This fun active girl is Riley. Riley is approx 1 y/o and 20# Heeler/JRT blend. She's great with other dogs outdoors but she definitely has some resource guarding issues with other dogs indoors. Her foster is working on getting a good training plan in place to see what we can do to help her with that. She's super playful outside and is learning to play fetch and share (although she's terrible about actually bringing the ball back). She's fully vetted and will require a secure fenced in yard with an owner who will not leave her out long unattended because she has the ability to jump/climb/dig her way out if bored. Riley would love to go to a ... (Read More)sport home where she could learn a game or two and focus her energy. She loves people but we recommend older kids as she could inadvertently knock the little ones over with her enthusiasm. Riley is being fostered near Thornton, CO. Rescue Me ID: 18-01-08-00098Annie (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Whenever a sweet and engaging Border Collie mix gets into an urgent situation, Farfel's rescuers like to help. We find that dogs of this breed mix are engaging, super-smart and make excellent family companions. They are a great fit for most active households and are extremely loyal companions for most age groups as well as other dogs. Annie is one of these cuddly, kind and very sweet herding dogs.. The New Mexico vets believe Annie to be a 5-6 month old, 32 lb (anticipated full-grown weight to be approximately 40 lbs) Border Collie mixed with a bit of Australian Cattle Dog (this assessment was based on body structure, markings and ... (Read More)personality). Once comfortable in her surroundings, Annie is SO smart and a playful and very silly/entertaining girl..very true to typical Border Collie and Aussie traits. Annie is so puppyish in her enthusiasm for all people that are kind to her. As you can see in her photo, Annie was very worried in the scary shelter (who wouldn't be?), but once she was removed from the overwhelming noise and the harsh environment of a high kill shelter and in the care of a foster ..she started to heal. And soon, Annie's face began to lose the worried look she wore while waiting for rescue. Her love of life has started to return and a waggy tail and a kiss shows her devotion to her new foster. Most rescue dogs are initially a bit shy (rehoming can be confusing and a bit overwhelming). Once they're responsibly placed in a home with a loving family that provides frequent socialization, nurturing, love and belly rubs.. they will begin to shine. Annie is one of these pups...she's a blank slate that's just waiting for the commitment of a great family. Her love will know no bounds as she becomes a loyal best friend (this breed mix is known for their loyalty!) and the greatest snuggler ever. We're searching for a family that spends lots of time at home...or loves to take a very sweet dog along with them. Dog-loving and active retirees would be perfect. Alice would be a very loving best friend...overjoyed with the time spent together and the loving attention she would receive. A younger family that works from home would be great as well. Annie would be overjoyed to have older kids to play with in the yard and to hike alongside on the trails of Colorado mountains. Border Collies as well as Aussies are famous for their sharp intelligence! They use their intellect when they engage with their families and participate in training classes.. and in activities like agility and herding. It's for this reason that we feel strongly that Annie should attend positive reinforcement training classes. She'll be a star (which builds high self-esteem) while bonding with her family and learning the skills (in a positive way) to become a well-behaved adult dog that can accompany her family out in the world with great behavior. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area. Annie has the potential for a beautiful coat with shades of black and the whitest of white running through it. Her coat looks shelter-tired right now. With a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition, Annie's hair will return to the classic beauty of the herding dog breeds. We've requested that Annie be spayed prior to her arrival in Colorado. Since New Mexico shelters have very limited access to vets and funding...this isn't always possible. Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Annie's spay and microchip after her arrival if our Denver vet is used. Annie will be arriving on transport in Denver on Saturday 1/13/18. Applications are currently being accepted for this very sweet and devoted best friend and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Annie, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. It's the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in most circumstances, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit an adoption application. Thanks so much for choosing rescue. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-01-08-00010Aspen (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable puppy. They're so new and fresh with every possibility open to them. That's the case unless they're at a high-kill shelter at risk of euthanasia. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great New Mexico rescuer in saving Aspen...she could see that her temperament was so sweet and kind that she couldn't allow her to be euthanized. Farfel's was immediately contacted by Aspen's rescuer and we happily accepted the beautiful Aspen into our rescue. It turns out that Aspen, at just 6 months old and 37 lbs (expected to be approximately 45 lbs when full-grown) is a gorgeous, ... (Read More)extremely intelligent puppy (true to her breeds) and so very sweet that it's been a fun and rewarding experience for her New Mexico rescuer. Aspen is like a blank slate...open and curious about everything around her. If she continues this regimen of socialization that promote positive relationships with other dogs and bonding with her humans...Aspen will become a well-adjusted and very loving and loyal best friend. Aspen is a gorgeous Australian Cattle Dog/Australian Shepherd mix puppy. This was the opinion of Aspen's New Mexico vet and determined by her coloring/markings, stature and larger size that speaks of the Australian Shepherd. Aspen has a shining, cottony-soft coat. She will require a commitment to periodic baths/brushing as well as great nutrition. With this protocol, Aspen's coat (with the gorgeous markings) will always shine with good health. Aspen's sweet and very engaging demeanor (once comfortable) is just who she is...she also appears to be more snuggly than your average crazy puppy. Aspen will sit quietly next to us on the couch loving the petting and a soft voice for a long time...but of course puppy energy will ultimately call. Off Aspen goes to run and play in the yard with our 2 dogs. If she is treated kindly with clear behavioral guidelines, Aspen will become a well-adjusted pup who respects her people as her leaders. Aspen, having the amazing intelligence of her breed mix, is a perfect candidate for positive reinforcement group training classes. She will shine with self-esteem as she masters the skills that will enable her to accompany her family everywhere a well-behaved dog is welcome. With these skills, Aspen will also be able to participate in agility or herding...it's what these dogs are bred for and love.. and utilizes their natural skills. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area. A family that loves Aspen like crazy is exactly the type of folks we're searching for for this sometimes silly, entertaining and very loving puppy. We also feel it's very important that she is provided with exercise and mental stimulation. Aspen will be overjoyed when her future holds hikes along beautiful Colorado paths enjoying the sunshine. Socializing with other hikers will definitely speak to the engaging nature of this social and sweet puppy. We'd love a family for Aspen that spends lots of time at home.. and chooses to include a fuzzy best friend in their activities. Aspen can be taught that the car is a fun place that leads to great adventures out in the community. She can therefore accompany her family just about anywhere with the assurance that she'll be a social and well-behaved pup. Aspen will be arriving in Boulder unfixed due to far too few vets in this very poor area of New Mexico. If our Denver vet is used, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Aspen's spay, microchip and any additional puppy shots she might require. Aspen will be arriving in Boulder on Saturday 1/13/18. Applications are currently being accepted for this extremely sweet and devoted best friend. An application can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. If interested, please fill out and return to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730. **PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Aspen, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Tail wagging, nose sniffing the air, sweet, joyful Jenna is happily at home in her foster home. The active 38-pound black and white beauty has a list of loves that includes going for walks and rides in the car, playing jumping games and cuddling in bed with her foster mom, and having cheese as treats. Although she's friendly towards the adults and the other dogs, she's perhaps a little too friendly with the resident cats. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Tess was picked up as a stray in rural NM in the middle of December. She was absolutely terrified at the shelter and was shutting down fast. Our friends at From Forgotten to Forever helped us take a chance on this shy scared girl and sprang her at the beginning of January and put her into a foster home. She has come around within just a couple days and is running around playing with the other dogs. She has been nothing but sweet being picked up, held, vaccinated, you name it. She is simply a sweet mellow girl who seems to be potty trained and will be fully vetted prior to adoption. Tess would benefit from another confident friendly dog in ... (Read More)the home. She's approx 1.5 y/o and 18#, Beagle/Spaniel/Hound blend with shorter legs. Tess doesn't really like being alone and will howl for you to come back, but she stops after a bit. Rescue Me ID: 17-12-31-00132Porter-PENDING! (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

The very first thing that Porter the Labrador Retriever/Australian Cattle Dog mix wants to make clear is that he's a love. In these photos, you're not aware of the silver, gold and whitest of white shades that run through his gorgeous coat. It is with grooming, care and great nutrition that Porter 's coat will show its gorgeous colors and cottony-soft hair that speaks of his breed mix. His foster home (with so much love and caring) is new to Porter...his nose sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. And then before you know it, he is next to you on the couch. He's so happy there because ... (Read More)his human (and canine) relationships are so important to him. We have to remember that Porter came from a very tough and challenging shelter. This 18 - 24 month old, 45 - 50 lb Lab/Aussie mix truly lights up whens he feels likes he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. In this spirit of great behavior, Porter is working with his foster mom on mastering his house skills. Porter 's foster mom has the following to say about Porter: Porter is doing great. He's still a young guy and just needs patience and love...and he blossoms. I sit with him and we talk about what a wonderful guy he is and what a great future he has to look forward to...I'm not kidding that I think he understands! Just a bit shy initially (but he should be after what he's been through...and then the sweetest love! Porter is so kind and cuddly... belly rubs and treats also are a gift to this sweet guy who has never had this kind of nurturing. It's important to note that Porter was removed from the shelter environment (due to a great temperament and just a great personality) and placed in a foster home. He was given the recognition to be trusted to work with children at a school...playing games and providing therapy hugs. He would be excellent in a home with active children who desire a full-time best friend. Porter really enjoys (and even loves) my 2 dogs and they all have the greatest time playing in my yard. Porter is very respectful of them and they really enjoy his company. I was very pleasantly surprised at the level of his respect and gentle nature - when they tell him they have had enough play time, Porter backs off and keeps himself busy in a positive way. You would expect a young Lab/Aussie mix to be a bit crazy and have tons of energy..this isn't the case with Porter. He has exactly the right amount of energy. I've had the most amazing time hiking/walking with Porter. He's such a sweet soul that I have no anxiety when we meet other dogs or people on our daily walks. He's very appropriate and exhibits respectful behavior while still learning his leash skills. I can definitely picture Porter falling in love with hiking the mountains of Colorado. He would be perfect in a home where his family love the outdoors and desires to take Porter along on hikes, snow-shoeing and climbing adventures. I actually think Porter is extremely level-headed for a young guy. . He loves to play (once comfortable), run and beginnings of different types of ball play...but then loves to cuddle equally. His temperament is really developing! I just have to walk into the room and glance at him...it's head to toe waggy tail and huge smile (now that he knows me better). He is such a sweet puppy - anyone who welcomes Porter into their home is truly getting a gem of a dog! Porter 's SUMMARY Golden-eyed Porter is such a people dog. He enjoys kids of all ages (no tail-pulling please) but they definitely must be very gentle and handle him kindly. We envision Porter with active retirees or a family with a bit older kids who want a beautiful and sweet dog as a family member and best companion. He would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his family. Being a Lab mix, Porter loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. He would be a natural in positive reinforcement group obedience classes. He would love the challenge and is so smart and wanting to please..he would excel (Farfel's is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in your area). Porter would also be overjoyed to hike along Colorado paths..enjoying the sunshine and time with his people. His nature, while initially a bit shy, quickly becomes very joyful and his silly and fun puppyish nature takes over. Porter will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 1/11/18. If interested in this fun-loving, sweet and very devoted young guy, please fill out an application at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/ and submit to farfelsapps@gmail.com or fax to 303-443-7730 **PLEASE NOTE: If you're truly interested in adopting Porter, please be sure to fill out our adoption application. Rescue Me ID: 17-12-22-00348Meeka-ADOPTION PENDING (female)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

There's nothing quite like puppy energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter! Meeka, at only 16 weeks old and approximately 10 lbs (is estimated to be full grown at about 30 lbs), was facing the end of her life before it ever began. Farfel's New Mexico rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this wonderful puppy...they rescued Meeka just in time. This sweet and engaging purebred Blue Heeler is starting out with great energy...the excellent results of her ... (Read More)temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life. Meeka is also incredibly beautiful...with the gorgeous streaks of gold and fawn that have come out since she received a good, sudsy bath. Meeka is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's so smart and very engaging...so typical of a Blue Heeler. She's also bright and so loving...clearly having no memory of her scary start. Meeka absolutely loves her humans (as well as her canine foster brother) and is so excited to spend quality time together. Meeka is an extremely loving puppy...and is so happy to be a lap dog.. or cuddle up in the night for special belly rubs and kind words. Since Meeka is just a baby, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. She has all the potential in the world to be an awesome companion - she will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through Puppy Socialization Class followed by positive reinforcement group Obedience Classes (Farfel's Rescue is happy to provide a list of force-free trainers in you area). It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you in the world with excellent behavior. We're open to Meeka finding her forever home with an active retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a puppy. Meeka is great with children as well but we would prefer to place her in a home with older kids that can participate in a gentle and consistent training regimen. Meeka will be up to date on her vetting. We're hoping that she will be spayed when she arrives from New Mexico, however a very young puppy like Meeka is often deemed too young to fix. If this is the case, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Meeka to be spayed/microchipped at our Denver vet to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation. Meeka will be arriving on transport in Denver in early January (exact date will be updated as soon as information is available).     ATTN: CANNOT BE ADOPTED IN CO, AS THEIR LAWS ARE TOUGH ON SMALL RESCUES. LONG DISTANCE TRANSPORT OPTIONS TO ADJOINING CLOSE STATES.. WILL DISCUSS AND CONSIDER. OWNER SURRENDER: Owners input below. ( Bodi was adopted by the owners at 4 months old . He weighs 60 pounds. Bodie) is a highly intelligent, curious dog who needs daily vigorous exercise, mental stimulation, and affection. As long as he gets enough of those things, he does great being left alone in the house for up to 8 hours when necessary (usually 5-6 hours is the norm). In the 3 years we've had him, I can count the times that he has chewed or destroyed something on 1 hand. He has ... (Read More)never scratched doors, gotten into the trash, or chewed up shoes - amazing! Bodi also does well in the car and on road trips. He's great about staying in the back of my station wagon, even when left alone in the car (when weather appropriate of course!) Although he is a very spunky and energetic dog, he's actually quite mellow at home, as long as he gets his morning exercise (30 min running or 45-60 min walking) and two or three 10-15 minute neighborhood walks during the day. Since we live in a townhouse, Bodi has never gotten to experience the gift of having a yard. He will be in absolute heaven if someone with a yard adopts him (but Catahoulas want to with their people so we do not sanction them becoming yard dogs who are left unsupervised for long periods.. they get lonesome and bored and they find a way to get your attention. Bodi is friendly to everyone we allow into our home, although he jumps up a lot on visitors, (this can be worked with. we are behavior Specialists and give unlimited help) especially those who aren't 'dog people'. He has been great with all of Alex's friends, but I would be cautious around small children and babies. He could be easily overwhelmed. Probably no to small tots. He has a few dog friends that we hike with and he does great with them. But he is selective and can be reactive with certain types of dogs, especially those that exhibit fear and aggression simultaneously. The biggest challenge with Bodi is his leash reactivity and the hyper-vigilance that he exhibits near our house and around the neighborhood. He has been very leash-reactive when walking with my husband or me, but is much less reactive when my son walks Bodi. And when we are not on his neighborhood 'turf' he is much more relaxed. However, due to Bodi's personality and physical strength, we are extremely careful about allowing him to interact with other dogs or people when we're out on walks. I believe that this issue could be resolved if Bodi had a stronger 'leader' that had more time and motivation to work with him on breaking his focus and redirecting his attention. I have worked with him quite a bit on this but have fallen short on consistency and have not put in the time required to correct this issue. Janeen can do what most trainers and behaviorists cannot and gives unlimited help successfully. She will work you through any issues. I have recently separated from my husband and am not able to care for Bodi in the ways that he needs in order to be happy and thrive. I work full time and am away from home 8-10 hours a day. Although we have a dog walker that helps out in the middle of the day, Bodi is a dog that needs an owner/ leader that has more time to play and actively work with him. This has been a long and difficult decision for me and my son. Bodi is an amazing dog, and I'm praying that the right person or family will find him and experience the love, affection and joy that he has given to us. (ADMIN NOTES) Long distance adoptions can be highly successful. We will screen for commitment. There is more in a longer bio about Bodi and an adopter will be speaking with owner and Janeen. This is a good boy.. he just needs the right home with real leadership, not a boss or trainer. Once we get your app we will give you more info on Bodi. He is worth checking out. (Less)

She gets along well with other dogs, and will need another dog in her new home,%A0but NOT cats. She is learning to 'sit' and walk calmly on leash, while 'stay' is more difficult due to her energy. Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Average Energy
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Boo Cattle Dog/Boxer Mix Male 2 years old 51 lbs. Hey there! I'm Boo and I'd like to be your new best friend! See, I'm one of those honest types. Like, super honest-almost like I don't have a filter! For instance, I can't play it cool-you're probably noticing from my wagging tail that I'm eager to hang out! In fact, a snuggle on the couch would be just delightful! I love playing outside with other dogs and then coming inside for a peaceful snooze. I'm pretty laid back and just want to chillax indoors. I'm house trained and know all of the classics like come, sit and stay. I'm totally trustworthy when it comes to leaving me home alone-no ... (Read More)worries there! I also love toys and I love going for fun hikes in the mountains! I have such a fun energy when I'm exploring new things! I am working on my comfort with meeting new people right now as new people are a bit intimidating to me at the moment. I am content with the people I know and love but can feel defensive in general when I'm unsure of a new relationship. Therefore, I'd do best in a quieter home where I can just be happy with my humans and not need to meet tons of new people all the time. And I also need to be in a home without children since I have shown to be nervous around young humans as well. But you know what I'm not scared of? Lots of love and affection from an amazing family! I would make an incredibly loving companion for someone who understands my foibles and can help me feel safe. And I promise you that I will love you and treasure you every day forward if you are my forever person. I had a chance to meet the kind folks at Denver Animal Care and Control for a breed evaluation and they've officially determined that I'm a Cattle Dog mix! That makes me so happy because that means I can live in the city of Denver. The kind folks at PawsCo can provide a written confirmation of my breed evaluation as needed. Will you please give me a new 'leash' on life? All you have to do is email adopt@pawscoadoptions.org or fill out an adoption application at https://pawsco.org/adopt/adoption-application/.     Australian Cattle Dogs were bred by 19th century Australian pioneers to herd cattle on large ranches. Most Australian Cattle Dogs have a star-shaped marking on their foreheads called the Bentley Mark, after dog owner Thomas Bentley, whose purebred dog supposedly passed this mark on to all genuine Australian Cattle Dogs. Australian Cattle Dogs are excellent at catching frisbees. The Australian Cattle Dog nips at a cow's heels to keep it in line with the herd, and may apply this technique to its humans from time to time as well.
