The picture of her intake from the Shelter was terrible, you could not even see her face and her color. She look like a very small puppy with a cord in her mouth. We decided to look at her any way especially that the Shelter only hold dogs for a very short time. I was told she was cute and only 7 months old. Now 'Aja' is at my house with my two other dogs (a senior and an other young girl who is only 8LBS) and she has been great with them. She is very active and runs and plays with my 8LBS dog. I was so surprised by her color. She is a black brindle, white chest with medium coat and a bushy tail. Great and very pretty mix. She is 25LBs ... (Read More)right now and should be right around the 40LBS where mature. She is very attractive and unusual. Would be great with an other dog, is fine with cats as well and of course great with kids. if you are interested please go on our site and fill out our application at www.findahomegiveahome.com under forms and call Isabelle at 239-281-0739 thanks (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-10-00632Maybelline (Maybel) (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Maybelline! Oh, but that's only for when I'm in trouble. My foster mommy mostly just calls me Maybel. They say it's because I look like I've 'shmeered my maekup,' like I've been crying... But I have no idea what they're talking about. I'd never cry. I'm probably the happiest dog in the whole wide world! Sometimes I get SO excited that I even forget to watch where I'm going! Yeah, I'm kinda clumsy, but with these big paws and long legs, it's hard not to bump into stuff. The only way I can NOT bump into stuff is if I stay still... HA! I never stay still! I have SOOO much energy! I love to run around outside, and I love to roll ... (Read More)around on the floor with my foster sisters... Playing is fun! Sometimes I even play all by myself! When everybody else gets tired, I make my own fun! Chewing things is fun, and licking things is fun... Oooh! I also like to run INSIDE the house! The others say there's not enough room, but all you have to do is run in the same places over and over again, like around and around in circles, or even back and forth in a straight line. And it's even better when the floor is tile. Tile is slippery! It's fun to slide on! But my foster mommy is trying to teach me how to stay still. She likes to put me in her lap for cuddles. Cuddling can be fun, but its mostly just comfy. So nice... My foster mommy says it's a tight squeeze, but I think I fit just fine. But even though it's so cozy, I can only lay there for so long. After a while, I get squirmy. I just can't stay still! That's why sometimes I have to go in my crate. It's an okay place for sleeping, but I get bored in there. I usually have a bone with me, but that gets boring too. But I think I found a new way to have fun. My paw is a very interesting thing to chew! Doesn't it sound like lots of fun?! But ya know what's not fun? Being scared. Being scared isn't fun at all. When I get scared, I get all shaky and nervous, so I bark and growl and make the hair on my back stand up... That should make the scary thing go away, right? But my foster mommy is teaching me how to not be scared. I hardly get scared at all now! All I need to do now is find my forever family! Will it be you? If you adopt me, I promise I'll love you forever and ever! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-10-00613Lilly (female)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi, I'm Lilly! I just finished my heartworm treatment, and now they're all gone! And the Heartguard my foster mommy gives me keeps them from coming back. I feel much better now! I also went to see Dr. Salisbury, an eye doctor for doggies, and she says I have something called 'Progressive Retinal Atrophy,' which means I will be blind one day. I don't understand, 'cause I feel fine. I know I bump into things in the dark sometimes, and the water in the shiny water bowl looks a little funny, but for now I can do everything the other doggies do. I love to go for walks, and play with my foster sisters. Sometimes my foster mommy even lets me ... (Read More)off-leash in the empty lot across the street so I can run. I love to run! I especially like it when my foster sisters let me chase them. But I'm a good girl. I know to go to my foster mommy when she calls me. I also know how to walk on a leash, how to stay in a crate, and lots of other things! I even learned how to cuddle, and my foster family really likes that. I usually get down after a little while, but I always come right back. I'm like a boomerang! It's just that being trapped in tight spaces still makes me kinda nervous. Cats make me a little nervous, too. I'm not sure what to think of them yet. Some are mean, some are nice, and some don't seem to care about me at all. I think it might be okay to leave them alone, but I decided I'd better keep my eyes on them, just in case. My foster family is really nice, and they've helped me a lot. They showed me how great humans are, that there are people out there who will love me even though I get nervous sometimes... and will go blind eventually. I'm still kinda shy, but I really like people now. More than anything, I want to find the forever family that will love me even though I'm not perfect. I know I will find them soon, though. Just look at me, I'm adorable! How can you not love me? (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-02-10-00235Cheech (male)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Heartworm Positive

Cheech is what we call a gentleman heeler. He is around 45 pounds, a beautiful blue boy. He is around 4 yrs old. Part of his lower lip is missing, but does not cause any issues whatsoever. He is calm, cool and collected. He will play with other dogs, but usually does not elicit it. He plays with toys some, but prefers chew bones and to be at your side. He will not need a leash for the most part, he is one of those loveley heelers that walk with you and always checks back to make sure you are still there. He is a snuggler and a cuddler. Loves the water and you can find him in the kiddie pool on those hot days. He is learning not to jump up on ... (Read More)people to say hello, and is very good on a leash. Learning basic manners. House and crate trained, uses a puppy door. He is just a people dog, and would do well as the only boy, or with another quiet dog that wont jump in his face all the time. He is truly a gentleman heeler, he is there for you. Good alert dog also. Cheech is fostered in Trilby, Fl . He would be a great companion for a ranch or farm, moderate activity level which will be tailored to whatever you would want to do.. He is a dog that is there for you! Neutered utd on shots. Cheech is hw positive and will be undergoing treatment in January. He will be available for adoption post treatment in February OR we will make an exception for someone willing to take him thru his treatment. If this is an option for you, please contact us to discuss this special wonderful boy!! UPDATE 2/9 Cheech is undergoing his first shot for heartworm treatment. He is available to a foster home in the Central Flordia area that is willing to foster him thru his 2nd heartworm treatment. We specify that area so he can finish his treatment with the same vet. This could be a foster to adopt situation for the right family!.. (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We were asked to take this dog by a good samaritan in Ga. He was at risk in his first home of being shot, so someone up in Ga kindly took him out of that situation, but he lived outside totally. With the weather becoming cold and even snowy, we were asked if we could take Redford down here in Florida, where he can bask in the warmth and sun, and have the opportunity for a forever home filled with love. He came to us right before Thanksgiving. We think he is an aussie/heeler mix about 18 mos old,58 pounds He loves people and other dogs. Submissive to people, but a bit needy and loves attention.. He does show interest in toys and has a ... (Read More)very curious nature. The pictures we saw of him in Ga, showed him playing with sticks, so while his basic needs were being provided, he had little mental stimulation and no social skills taught to him. We are working on house breaking, and indoor manners, ie counter surfing, jumping on people. He is food and attention motivated, so there is much progress to be made and in a short time too. Redford is crated trained, neutered recently, has had all his shots. He does not appear to be sound sensitive, he is great with other dogs. He does want to greet and sniff everyone, and is still learning doggie etiquette amongst his peers, but is making great strides there. For a dog that has been deprived of basic mental stim and social skills, he is doing wonderfully. UPDATE 12/20 We have had Redford almost a month now. He has learned the hierarchy of the pack he lives with, his toilet training has been completed. He loves to play with toys, and sometimes just runs around the yard wtih them in his mouth. He continues to be very friendly and good with other dogs, sometimes to the point of being a pest, so he would do very well with another dog that would welcome a player. He is learning home skills, and the jumping, counter surfing is dwindling down. Redford is ready to move on to his new forever home! He may be a candidate for performance, but certainly he would be a great partner for running, hiking and most any outdoor sport. He is fostered in the Trilby area. Please contact us if you are interested in this handsome boy (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-28-00161Fera (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Fearful/Anxious

Fera is a small 8 or 9 mo old girl that was found in rural Ga in someones shed. We do not have a lot of info on her background. She was brought to the shelter where she promptly retreated into silence and depression. Fera was semi feral when brought into the shelter. She was rescue only and no one wanted her. We saw her face and took a chance. We have had her since May, and she has made great progress. She has never been aggressive, she shuts down and goes into a ball when she feels threatened. That behaviour is becoming less and less. Fera now comes to people for petting, does well on a leash, is learning to sit, has a down. Loves to ... (Read More)snuggle with you for selected moments of time. This is a very agile, smart dog, that can leap 5 feet in the air, sail across a couch or two, and is fast as the wind. She is very attentive, looks you strait in the face. She shadows youwhen you walk in the house, but if you turn too sudddenly she will dance back and can be coaxed to approach with food. Fera still needs lots of special attention. She will always need the company of another stable dog for a role model. Now she needs to expand her horizens, and needs lots of exposure to the environment. Walks in the park, classes (she has been to several puppy classes and done well), petsmart, lots of people touches. She loves dogs, they are her safety net, and she is still learning to trust people. Fera is a project dog, and we will release only to someone that has experience with rehab dogs. She has been evaluated by a behaviourist, and is perfectly rehabitable. she will be an excellent and beyond performance dog. Loves to tug and play, but it is shadowed by her distrust of people hands. That can be overcome. She is still at risk for flight, which is what she would do if scared, so a trusty secure fence is a must. Throw in another dog or two, a patient, kind loving person that knows how to train and read a dog, and she will be a star! She will NOT get any bigger , max 25 pounds. We will consider a reliable knowledgeable foster who can take her under their wing and continue the work we have started.. Fera will be able to get in to classes with certain trainers for a minimal cost, which we will pay for. we will pay for any medical, heartworm and flea prevention. We are just looking for a great home where she can continue her adventures in life. If you are interested in fostering or adopting please contact us, we will be happy to expound on her!! (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Arthritis, Abused/Neglected

Serena (Reni) is a 9-year old, 46lb. senior border collie mix. She is a super sweet, smart girl with a great disposition. Serena hit a rough patch before being rescued on a busy 4-lane hwy., and had numerous health issue. The good news is most of that is behind her now. She does have some old bone injuries which have healed, but incorrectly. The vet states at this point in time, there is medically nothing that can be done to heal them. Serena mobility is good, and get around the house and yard just fine. She like walks and playing with the other dogs in her foster pack. She takes Tramadol for pain at night; the prescription is ... (Read More)available at any local pharmacy for about $4 a month. Does well in the house, is house trained, respects boundaries, does not get into anything she should not be in. Serena gets along well with other dogs but has a tendency to do a herding nip, if there is a lot of running activity when playing. This is not an aggressive bite, but a nip to try to herd the other dog. She gets along fine with older children, and mostly ignores them. Serena's manners continue in the backyard as well. No real issues with digging or jumping. The exception to this rule is when it thunders out, even in the distance. She cannot be left alone outside when there is thunder. She gets so scared, that she will claw and dig at the fence to escape the perceived danger. When inside the house she is fine, and just finds a place to hide until the storm passes. Serena would be a perfect fit for someone who likes a low energy dog. She is content to just be at home with her human, or in other relaxing environments. (Less)
