Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Rowdy is a very uniquely coloured Cattle Dog, red with some black shading. He is 1.5 yrs old, and came in with Stella. We believe them to be littermates. Rowdy loves to play with other dogs, and has discovered the joys of chewtoys squeaky toys and balls!! He is very good with other dogs, very smart and learns quickly. Corrects easily with verbals. Rides well in the car. Needs some leash work, and more work on basics. He is more energetic than Stella, and will need an active home. He could easily be an agility or dock diving prospect. Has that heeler propensity to get mouthy when excited but we are working on that. He is utd on shots, ... (Read More)heartworm negative, neutered,,housebroken, really a very nice boy ready to be a jogging partner or a hiking buddy!! Rowdy is fostered in Trilby, Fl. Please contact us if interested in giving this boy a forever home!!! (Less)

Animal ID: 15-03-27-00218Morgan (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Little Morgan, all 24 pounds of her, is a sweet and shy girl. She hails from Arkansas, where she and a friend were pulled from a rural shelter of despicable condition. Morgan has had her ups and downs, she was attacked in a boarding facility and had to be relocated to another facility. She is extremely timid when meeting other dogs, and will growl but will not attack. Given a day or even a few hours, when she knows she will not be hurt, she is very tolerant of other dogs, and now is accepting and even playing heartily with her foster brothers and sisters. We do expect that reaction to new dogs to disappear as she becomes more confident and ... (Read More)used to meeting other doggies. Morgan knows how to sit, and has a decent come when she is not busy exploring. She loves to be outdoors, and does a fair share of flycatching and patrolling for bugs. She picked up the dog door in no time flat. Has excellent leash skills, has the ability to learn to play with toys, she is being house broken now, and is excelling in record time. She is not enamoured of her crate, but will go in to eat or sleep. She is not fond of it when tis time to go to work, but a bone or antler will go a long way there. She does ride well in a car, (it was a three day trip from Arkansas). Snuggle time you bet! and a snooze on the bed is even better. And who can resist?? She loves to be loved on, and would love a home where she will be pampered. She does have some separaton anxiety so another dog or two that is calm confident and friendly would be such a bonus for her! She has potential for doggie sports, once she gets acclimated to the real world, and has been socialized. Morgan would definitely benefit from obedience classes, basic agility class. She is a fun, sweet little girl who will give years of love and put laughter in to your life! Right now we will go with moderate activity, but be prepared as she gets comfy and confident for that jogging partner, or that agility girl that will come peeking thru!! Morgan is fostered in the Bradenton area, please contact us if you are interested in adopting this little girlie! (Less)

Animal ID: 15-03-18-00217Monroe (male)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet Mr. Monroe, the gentleman Heeler. He hails from a shelter in Arkansas, where he was pulled in the nick of time. Monroe is about 4 yrs old, a stout short legged red boy, with just the softest fur you could imagine. He is a lovebug and snuggler, likes to know where you are at all times, so he can relax and not worry about you. He is crate trained, house trained, does not get on furniture, sleeps at the foot of the bed. I've not heard him bark, he gets very excited when he hasn't seen me for a bit, and dances and leaps in the air. Uses the dog door to go out, does not let you far out of his sight outdoors, so he is good off leash or on. ... (Read More)Monroe does not know how to play, doesn't seem to have much toy drive. He would rather just lie at your feet. He will be a great dog for nice long walks on the beach or woods, and just relaxing with. Seems to have a very calm even temperament. Not sound sensitive, walks excellent on lead. Knows basic commands, sit down come. He has not exhibited any bad habits in the house. No food aggression seen, he is fine with other dogs but does not play with them. Monroe has just finished his heartworm treatment, and has done well with that, he is still on a month of crate rest, but he is so mellow we really don't need him in a crate except to sleep. He likes to go out on the porch and sun himself. Great dog for a couple that is moderately active. Loves the car and travels well, good at the vets. He is a steal for someone looking for a no frills dog, this will be the dog for you!!! The only thing that seems to excite him is flies and he will leap 3 feet in to the air to catch one. It is very entertaining to watch! Please contact us if you are interested in this handsome dude, we will also consider a foster situation for him.. Update on Monroe 6/17 he has been out on a trial sleepover, and Monroe really does best in a home without small children. He does occasionally nip, and while he responds to verbal correction, we feel it best that he goes to a home with no children. He will do fine with a senior couple, or even on a ranch as he exhibits herding abilities and an interest in livestock. An owner familiar with heeler behavior is ideal, Monroe responds beautifully to verbals and will need an alpha owner, he will be your typical heeler who is protective of home property and people. Rescue Me ID: 15-03-10-00022Maddie (female)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

This one is a real sweetheart! Maddie is all Australian Cattle Dog - smart, alert, attentive, sensitive but persistent and highly trainable. She likes to romp around in the yard and play with a ball but also has an off switch. She wants to be with her human, is cuddly and will lay next to you on the couch or at your feet. She's great on a leash (no lunging or pulling) and isn't fearful or reactive, just interested in learning about the world around her. About one year old, Maddie looks to be purebred. She was picked up as a stray in Alabama and saved from the shelter in the nick of time. She is up-to-date on shots, heartworm negative, ... (Read More)spayed, crate-trained and has nearly completed house-training. At 40lbs. she's got a beautiful silver and tan coat and loves people. No food aggression, she'll take a treat carefully from your hand. She doesn't bark unless there's a good reason, rides calmly in the car and is proving to be a wonderful office dog. Maddie would be a great match for someone looking for a loyal, active, versatile pet and who is willing to train her with patience and kindness. We believe she would do best in an ACD-savvy home as she is exhibiting the herding instinct. She loves to play with other dogs, (sometimes a bit roughly so we're working on her doggy etiquette) and would do well with a similarly playful pack-mate. Untested with cats but has shown typical heeler interest in the neighborhood roamers and squirrels. Maddie is a friendly, intelligent, happy girl who wins over everyone she meets with her wiggly butt, sweet disposition and winning grin. (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hi, my name is Maybelline! Oh, but that's only for when I'm in trouble. My foster mommy mostly just calls me Maybel. They say it's because I look like I've 'shmeered my maekup,' like I've been crying... But I have no idea what they're talking about. I'd never cry. I'm probably the happiest dog in the whole wide world! Sometimes I get SO excited that I even forget to watch where I'm going! Yeah, I'm kinda clumsy, but with these big paws and long legs, it's hard not to bump into stuff. The only way I can NOT bump into stuff is if I stay still... HA! I never stay still! I have SOOO much energy! I love to run around outside, and I love to roll ... (Read More)around on the floor with my foster sisters... Playing is fun! Sometimes I even play all by myself! When everybody else gets tired, I make my own fun! Chewing things is fun, and licking things is fun... Oooh! I also like to run INSIDE the house! The others say there's not enough room, but all you have to do is run in the same places over and over again, like around and around in circles, or even back and forth in a straight line. And it's even better when the floor is tile. Tile is slippery! It's fun to slide on! But my foster mommy is trying to teach me how to stay still. She likes to put me in her lap for cuddles. Cuddling can be fun, but its mostly just comfy. So nice... My foster mommy says it's a tight squeeze, but I think I fit just fine. But even though it's so cozy, I can only lay there for so long. After a while, I get squirmy. I just can't stay still! That's why sometimes I have to go in my crate. It's an okay place for sleeping, but I get bored in there. I usually have a bone with me, but that gets boring too. So I need lots of toys around to keep my attention!! Because I didnt have a good life before, I get scared real easy, I get all shaky and nervous, so I bark and growl and make the hair on my back stand up... That should make the scary thing go away, right? But my foster mommy is teaching me how to not be scared. I hardly get scared at all now! I am getting used to lots of different things and it is getting waaaay better!! All I need to do now is find my forever family! I need a family that will be patient with me, and take me out to do new things and be in new places so I get educated. Will it be you? If you adopt me, I promise I'll love you forever and ever!     Hi, I'm Lilly! I just finished my heartworm treatment, and now they're all gone! And the Heartguard my foster mommy gives me keeps them from coming back. I feel much better now! I also went to see Dr. Salisbury, an eye doctor for doggies, and she says I have something called 'Progressive Retinal Atrophy,' which means I will be blind one day. I don't understand, 'cause I feel fine. I know I bump into things in the dark sometimes, and the water in the shiny water bowl looks a little funny, but for now I can do everything the other doggies do. I love to go for walks, and play with my foster sisters. Sometimes my foster mommy even lets me ... (Read More)off-leash in the empty lot across the street so I can run. I love to run! I especially like it when my foster sisters let me chase them. But I'm a good girl. I know to go to my foster mommy when she calls me. I also know how to walk on a leash, how to stay in a crate, and lots of other things! I even learned how to cuddle, and my foster family really likes that. I usually get down after a little while, but I always come right back. I'm like a boomerang! It's just that being trapped in tight spaces still makes me kinda nervous. Cats make me a little nervous, too. I'm not sure what to think of them yet. Some are mean, some are nice, and some don't seem to care about me at all. I think it might be okay to leave them alone, but I decided I'd better keep my eyes on them, just in case. My foster family is really nice, and they've helped me a lot. They showed me how great humans are, that there are people out there who will love me even though I get nervous sometimes... and will go blind eventually. I'm still kinda shy, but I really like people now. More than anything, I want to find the forever family that will love me even though I'm not perfect. I know I will find them soon, though. Just look at me, I'm adorable! How can you not love me? (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Heartworm Positive

Cheech is what we call a gentleman heeler. He is around 45 pounds, a beautiful blue boy. He is around 4 yrs old. Part of his lower lip is missing, but does not cause any issues whatsoever. He is calm, cool and collected. He will play with other dogs, but usually does not elicit it. He plays with toys some, but prefers chew bones and to be at your side. He will not need a leash for the most part, he is one of those loveley heelers that walk with you and always checks back to make sure you are still there. He is a snuggler and a cuddler. Loves the water and you can find him in the kiddie pool on those hot days. He is learning not to jump up on ... (Read More)people to say hello, and is very good on a leash. Learning basic manners. House and crate trained, uses a puppy door. He is just a people dog, and would do well as the only boy, or with another quiet dog that wont jump in his face all the time. He is truly a gentleman heeler, he is there for you. Good alert dog also. Cheech is fostered in Trilby, Fl . He would be a great companion for a ranch or farm, moderate activity level which will be tailored to whatever you would want to do.. He is a dog that is there for you! Neutered utd on shots. Cheech is hw positive and will be undergoing treatment in January. He will be available for adoption post treatment in February OR we will make an exception for someone willing to take him thru his treatment. If this is an option for you, please contact us to discuss this special wonderful boy!! UPDATE 2/9 Cheech is undergoing his first shot for heartworm treatment. He is available to a foster home in the Central Flordia area that is willing to foster him thru his 2nd heartworm treatment. We specify that area so he can finish his treatment with the same vet. This could be a foster to adopt situation for the right family!.. (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

We were asked to take this dog by a good samaritan in Ga. He was at risk in his first home of being shot, so someone up in Ga kindly took him out of that situation, but he lived outside totally. With the weather becoming cold and even snowy, we were asked if we could take Redford down here in Florida, where he can bask in the warmth and sun, and have the opportunity for a forever home filled with love. He came to us right before Thanksgiving. We think he is an aussie/heeler mix about 18 mos old,58 pounds He loves people and other dogs. Submissive to people, but a bit needy and loves attention.. He does show interest in toys and has a ... (Read More)very curious nature. The pictures we saw of him in Ga, showed him playing with sticks, so while his basic needs were being provided, he had little mental stimulation and no social skills taught to him. We are working on house breaking, and indoor manners, ie counter surfing, jumping on people. He is food and attention motivated, so there is much progress to be made and in a short time too. Redford is crated trained, neutered recently, has had all his shots. He does not appear to be sound sensitive, he is great with other dogs. He does want to greet and sniff everyone, and is still learning doggie etiquette amongst his peers, but is making great strides there. For a dog that has been deprived of basic mental stim and social skills, he is doing wonderfully. UPDATE 12/20 We have had Redford almost a month now. He has learned the hierarchy of the pack he lives with, his toilet training has been completed. He loves to play with toys, and sometimes just runs around the yard wtih them in his mouth. He continues to be very friendly and good with other dogs, sometimes to the point of being a pest, so he would do very well with another dog that would welcome a player. He is learning home skills, and the jumping, counter surfing is dwindling down. Redford is ready to move on to his new forever home! He may be a candidate for performance, but certainly he would be a great partner for running, hiking and most any outdoor sport. He is fostered in the Trilby area. Please contact us if you are interested in this handsome boy (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-28-00161Fera (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Fearful/Anxious

Fera is a small 8 or 9 mo old girl that was found in rural Ga in someones shed. We do not have a lot of info on her background. She was brought to the shelter where she promptly retreated into silence and depression. Fera was semi feral when brought into the shelter. She was rescue only and no one wanted her. We saw her face and took a chance. We have had her since May, and she has made great progress. She has never been aggressive, she shuts down and goes into a ball when she feels threatened. That behaviour is becoming less and less. Fera now comes to people for petting, does well on a leash, is learning to sit, has a down. Loves to ... (Read More)snuggle with you for selected moments of time. This is a very agile, smart dog, that can leap 5 feet in the air, sail across a couch or two, and is fast as the wind. She is very attentive, looks you strait in the face. She shadows youwhen you walk in the house, but if you turn too sudddenly she will dance back and can be coaxed to approach with food. Fera still needs lots of special attention. She will always need the company of another stable dog for a role model. Now she needs to expand her horizens, and needs lots of exposure to the environment. Walks in the park, classes (she has been to several puppy classes and done well), petsmart, lots of people touches. She loves dogs, they are her safety net, and she is still learning to trust people. Fera is a project dog, and we will release only to someone that has experience with rehab dogs. She has been evaluated by a behaviourist, and is perfectly rehabitable. she will be an excellent and beyond performance dog. Loves to tug and play, but it is shadowed by her distrust of people hands. That can be overcome. She is still at risk for flight, which is what she would do if scared, so a trusty secure fence is a must. Throw in another dog or two, a patient, kind loving person that knows how to train and read a dog, and she will be a star! She will NOT get any bigger , max 25 pounds. We will consider a reliable knowledgeable foster who can take her under their wing and continue the work we have started.. Fera will be able to get in to classes with certain trainers for a minimal cost, which we will pay for. we will pay for any medical, heartworm and flea prevention. We are just looking for a great home where she can continue her adventures in life. If you are interested in fostering or adopting please contact us, we will be happy to expound on her!! (Less)

lnteresting Australian Cattle Dog Trivia Low-Cost Florida Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Cattle Dogs were bred by 19th century Australian pioneers to herd cattle on large ranches. Most Australian Cattle Dogs have a star-shaped marking on their foreheads called the Bentley Mark, after dog owner Thomas Bentley, whose purebred dog supposedly passed this mark on to all genuine Australian Cattle Dogs. Australian Cattle Dogs are excellent at catching frisbees.
