Rescue Me ID: 18-03-21-00105Farley (male)
A friend of mine reached out to me desperate and devastated because she needs to rehome her Great Pyrenees/Cattle Dog mix, Farley. Farley can play rough at times but likes other dogs (never aggressive), lives with cats, and does well with new people. He is easily trainable and food-motivated. He likes to be active so would love someone who at least walks daily and could throw a Frisbee for him. Farley is neutered, up to date, and will be 5 in August. He weighs a little over 80 pounds. He has become increasingly uncomfortable in her home ever since my friend's daughter reached toddler age and started being mobile.(He is often unhappy in the home and prefers to spend increasing time outside.) She believes Farley would do best in a home either without children (and none in the near future) or with kids who are at least teenagers. He is in the south suburbs but could be transported within a few hours of Chicago. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-03-11-00111Maxwell (male)
Hi! I'm Maxwell! I'm a 9 month old Red Heeler/Beagle/Hound mix who loves to play! I'd love to find a patient family who can help me learn some manners and take me to some basic training classes - they would be rewarded with cuddles and kisses. I'd love to find an active family who enjoys outdoors and activities - I like kids (I don't think I've met the teeny ones, but my foster Mom says I'm gentle), I love dogs my size and bigger, but those kitties- I'm not a fan. I currently have two fur brothers and I play with them NON STOP. My mom has only heard me bark when I couldn't find her in the house or when I didn't know where those other fur friends were. She thinks it's the herding nature in me! I do enjoy making sure all of my charges are where they are supposed to be!!! I will make an excellent family dog and I can't wait to show you just how loyal I can be! P.S.- I know my pictures are that great. I tried really hard to sit still so my mom could snap some good ones to show just how HANDSOME I am. I was just so excited that someone was taking my picture and paying attention to me though!!! I promise if you come meet me, you'll see just how handsome I really am!! Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or puppies. Puppies have special needs and require a home where there will be someone available to care for, socialize, and train them during the day. If your family is away from the home for several hours at a time, please consider adopting a 'teen' or adult dog. Our standard adoption fee is $295 cash or check and $300 credit card ($5 processing fee). It includes spay/neuter when age appropriate at our participating vets, age appropriate core vaccinations, fecal testing, deworming, flea and tick preventative,1st vet visit at one of our participating vets, and micro-chipping. We must have an application, conduct a phone interview, and meet your entire family to approve an adoption. Please email safehavendogsIL@yahoo.com for an application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 18-02-27-00089Star (female)
Star Female 35 lbs 7 months old Meet my shadow Star. Star is a well behaved young lady looking for a family. She has a BEAUTIFUL patchwork style coat that is just stunning. Inside the house she can be found wherever the foster mom is. She is calm and gentle inside the home. Most often can be found lounging somewhere nearby either sleeping or chewing on hard plastic bones. She has never picked up any shoes or personal items to chew. Sometimes she finds a squeaky soft dog toy and boy does she love to hear the sounds. Outside she loves to run and play so a fenced yard would suit her best. She has not quite mastered potty training. She would do best in a home where she can be let out early mornings and often throughout the day. She is so close to becoming the perfect in-home pet. She does not like being crated. She has free roam throughout the home when the fosters are there and crated minimally when schedules overlap. She would do well with other dogs and small children. Unknown how she would be with cats. Please consider becoming a foster home while you search for your new best friend. We need foster homes - pounds are overflowing with puppies and adult dogs that are at-risk and need help. We can only rescue as many as we have foster home commitments. Fostering is a rewarding experience for your family. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting an Australian Cattle Dog in Illinois
Australian Cattle Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. The Australian Cattle Dog is one of the most intelligent dog breeds, needing a lot of attention to stave off boredom. A neglected Australian Cattle Dog can become destructive. Australian Cattle Dogs have strong herding instincts and behave best when they have plenty of space and a job to do. Australian Cattle Dogs are well suited to farms and homes with large yards; they do not do well confined to an apartment or other small space. Australian Cattle Dogs are loyal and very obedient with attentive training. An Australian Cattle Dog tends not to do well with children unless it has known them since it was a puppy. Australian Cattle Dogs may be very close to their masters and reluctant to accept other people.
