Animal ID: A36606268Bailey (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Bailey was brought to the shelter with a very serious neck wound. The Animal Control Officer's thought was to have her euthanized, but despite the grave seriousness of the wound and the pain she was in, she was still friendly and giving kisses (even if they were very tiny ones). The Shelter Manager couldn't help it, she couldn't see such a sweet girl put down and she was whisked off to the emergency room to clean her wound and get her on antibiotics; and she was immediately placed in medical foster care to ensure she kept her wound clean. After 2 days, the wound was ready to be closed. She still has a scar on her neck that will be a lasting ... (Read More)reminder of her wound, but she was always friendly no matter what she encountered. Bailey is currently being fostered with 8 other dogs and she does wonderfully. She does enjoy playing keep away with the other dogs, but their overly high play drive sometimes can tire her out, so she goes with the golden girls dog bunch and likes to lounge on the dog bed (or if humans are in the real bed - she will jump up with them to snuggle). She also lives with 3 cats and does wonderfully with them. She is potty-trained and crate-trained; however, she is not crated very much. She is the only one that gets to roam around the house with the 'owned' dogs, because she is so well-behaved. She does well with the two children (6yo and 10month old). She truly is the ideal dog and the perfect size for any household. Contact Kirby-Bexar Animal Facility to set up a meet-and-greet with this sweetheart today! (Less)

Animal ID: A36558030Hank (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Female Dogs Only
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered

Hank is a handsome fellow. He is a dominant male and has shown he may not care for other male dogs or alpha females. He was introduced to a submissive female and he showed enough interest to smell her, then decided she was okay and left her alone - then headed around the yard to smell everything else. He can get overwhelmed in settings with a lot of other dogs (adoption events) and bark, but when walked away from the crowd he is much more personable and enjoys the human interaction with him. He was introduced to cats (which were in crates) and he showed absolutely no interest in them (even when brought right up to them).

Animal ID: Foster HomeHeimdall (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Heimdall is a German Shepherd and Australian Cattle mix that I adopted from the Euless Animal Shelter in January. His shelter name was Aero but I renamed him Heimdall. He's a little over a year old. He's great with kids, plays well with other dogs, a cuddle bug, loves to play fetch and run. He is also potty-trained. He is chipped, neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations. He also has a large igloo dog house that will go with him to his new home as well as any food and biscuits in his stash! Heimdall will make a great a pet for some lucky family. Please give him a chance. He deserves so much more than I can give him now due to health ... (Read More)issues. I only want the best for him. Rescue Me ID: 17-10-18-00140Polly (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

OUT OF STATE ADOPTIONS: We do allow out-of-state adoptions for dogs, however, the adopter MUST come to Houston to get the dog and take the dog home with them. We do not allow our dogs to be shipped. Also, our puppies can only be adopted to the immediate Houston vicinity as it takes 4 months to get them completely vetted at our vet here in Houston. We will not allow our dogs/puppies to be adopted out of the area without being spayed/neutered. We spay/neuter puppies at 4 months old. Hello world!! My name is Polly and I am brand new to K-9 Angels. I am so happy to be in a real home. I have foster brothers to run and play with and I am ... (Read More)having so much fun. My foster parents said they can already tell I am super smart and sweet! We will update Polly's bio as we get to know her. Polly is a Female 3 month old (as of 10/17/2017) Red Heeler mix and currently weighs 12 pounds. PUPPIES: Young puppies that have not had their second round of puppy shots will not be at the Adoption Center for our weekend adoption events. If you are interested in adopting a puppy, please fill out an application on our website http://www.k-9angelsrescue.org/k9_angels_rescue_application_to_adopt.html. If your application is approved, a meeting can be arranged. Also, we only adopt young puppies locally due to the 4 month time frame it takes to get them fully vetted and altered. SPAY/NEUTER: As we believe proper healthcare of one's pet is a requirement of good ownership K-9 Angels Rescue only adopts out dogs that have been fully vetted. If the dog being adopted is not already altered at the time of their adoption, the dog will be altered within 2 weeks of adoption at our vet at our cost, with the exception of puppies which will be altered as soon as the puppy is ready. NOTE: All dogs are officially the property of K-9 Angels Rescue until they are altered by our veterinarian. Please LIKE and share our Facebook page: www.facebook.com/k9angelsrescue. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 17-10-17-00128Diego (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Diego is a 45-lb. approx. 9-year-old Australian cattle-dog mix. He's spent his whole life in the country and really loves the great outdoors. He's sweet-natured and laid back, perfect for a country lifestyle. His owner lived in rural Maud, Texas, until a cancer diagnosis required him to move quickly for treatment. I have volunteered to help Diego find a new owner, and he needs a home with plenty of outdoor space. Diego has been with us for 4 months now, and I have been unsuccessful in finding him a permanent home. We have many other animals, and our male dog is growing increasingly aggressive about Diego invading his space. They've begun ... (Read More)engaging in constant territory battles-both have sustained injuries. Diego would rather be left alone, but we've raised our dog since he was 6 weeks old, so he is certain our property is his territory, and he's not willing to share. Despite continuing training with our dog and constant watchfulness, we cannot ensure Diego's safety. Diego is now having to spend most of his time in a 12x6 pen for his own security. We've found Diego to be great with humans and eager to please. He interacts well with other dogs, including other males and our female dog. We've been working with Diego on basic training commands as he's been the king of his domain until now. So far, he's learning 'sit' and 'wait.' He's a fun challenge and is proving that you can indeed teach an old dog new tricks... if you have the patience for it. Diego LOVES playing with a tennis ball, and he'll spend hours rolling one around on the ground and trapping it with his front paws. He especially likes to have his belly rubbed, and he enjoys the freedom of running at full speed. Diego is current on his rabies vaccine. His rehoming fee is $50. He loves riding in vehicles so I'd be happy to meet you anywhere close-ish to the Bastrop area. (Less)

I should have co-starred with J.J. Watt in that Campbell's Chunky Soup commercial. Although I weigh less than six ... (Read More)pounds, I'm built like #99. I use my chunky build and quick acceleration to tackle my brother when we play and to intercept his treats when we score points for good behavior. Since I'm such a good sport, I don't mind at all when my brother bl ocks my path to the water bowl or jumps offside and sticks his nose into my bowl while I'm eating. I eat with such gusto my foster peeps call me Chetty-Chetty Bang-Bang. I cuddle with such sweetness they call me Chetty. On the field I go by Chet. Right now I'm very young and spend my time playing hard, eating hard, cuddling hard, and sleeping hard. Check out my stats. I'm a totally fabulous puppy and future MVP. Rescue Me ID: 17-10-11-00135Wrangler (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

Wrangler is an affectionate, eager-to-please boy who loves playing with his stuffed animals, chewing on his peanut butter stuffed bones, and napping. He does great with other dogs and is warming up to his foster cat companion. Wrangler has lived with kids in the past and would be a great family dog. He can be a little anxious at first, but his confidence builds up quickly. Wrangler loves meeting new people, and absolutely lives for belly rubs. He enjoys daily walks, and is eager to go on long hikes and jogs once he's finished with his heartworm treatments. While he has his playful moments, Wrangler is overall a very calm dog. His foster mom ... (Read More)is amazed at his good manners during dinner. While cooking, he knows not to come into the kitchen, and he doesn't even stare at her while she eats! In fact, during dinner, he'll usually settle for a snooze on the living room floor instead of hanging out where the food is. As soon as you walk near him though, the thump of his tail on the floor lets you know he's patiently awaiting a belly rub. This smart boy is house trained, walks well on a leash, enjoys car rides, and is learning new tricks. He is very intelligent, and learns quickly! Although he gets a little bummed when he has to go into his crate, he's never destructive, and will go if there's a treat involved. Wrangler is fascinated by buzzing insects and will stare, pounce, leap, and chomp at anything that buzzes past him. His foster mom is trying to train him to hunt mosquitoes, but so far the mosquitoes are still winning that battle. Wrangler is hoping for a home with dogs and/or kids to play with and, of course, a large yard with lots of squirrels and buzzing insects. If that sounds like your home, come meet this boy! If interested, please fill out an application here [ http://addicuslegacy.org/adoption-application.html ] and we will get back to you asap! (Less)

Hambone is located in TEXAS and he needs to be adopted. He is willing to relocate to another state for a good, loving, forever home. Hambone and his brother were two little puppies found dumped out in a field. A DNA test for the boys indicate that they are Blue Heeler/American Staffordshire Terrier mixes. From their current size, these babies are going to grow up to be heavy, compact and chunky boys - probably at least 60 pounds. I call them my Hippos. Hambone is the larger sibling. He is tricolor - black, red and white. They boys have been in rescue since 6 weeks of age and they have known nothing but love. They are sweet, cuddly, ... (Read More)playful and gentle puppies. They love to play with toys, other dogs and in their wading pool. They are happy and healthy. They are crate trained, but still puppies that will need further training and socialization. We want Hambone to be an indoor dog and a loved member of the family. He would like a secure fenced yard to run and play. Hambone is 5 months old and weighs 40 pounds. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, and microchipped. He has been started on heartworm and flea preventative. Hambone has a $100.00 adoption fee. Rescue Me ID: 17-09-27-00036Riley (male)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Riley: 6.5 months; Sex: Male; Weight: 28 lbs (almost done growing); Height 18 inches; Activity Level: Active Companion; Breed: Border Collie Mix; Coat: Black and White Rough Coat. Riley is a sweet pistol teenager still finding his way in life as we all know a good dog takes time and energy to mature into their best self. He loves everyone he meets, fearless too, however he can be a little over zealous- thus he needs a DOG SAVVY adopter who understands how to direct and redirect a herding mix pup using lots of repetitive exercises, continued use of a crate, boundaries inside his home and fun games. This pup has really come full circle from ... (Read More)a boisterous OVERLY confused pup running the streets at 3 months old. He is a smart loving energetic boy who is fearless typical teenager enjoys: leash walks; balls and toys; rolling around in the grass working on sticks with his human outside; excited for car rides and trips to the vet; lap hugs and lap splats (run jump aim!) and lots of fenced in areas for running-he has to have his wild side set free a few times a day. He is totally up for a road trip to meet his perfect adoptive home. As much as Riley shines his bright eyes and dashing smile (possibly mixed with ACD/Corgi/Spaniel) he is a bit strong willed and will have the run of the home if his owner doesn't continue basic obedience classes and use tools given to him now inside the home and outside for focus and direction. I have been working with Riley for a few months laying the ground work for manners inside the home using a leash and baby gates in my open floor plan; manners on walks; crate training a must for him to have down time and be safe when a home is busy; recall; his comfort level in varied situations thus he does best with strong leadership and learning that life can get busy. As you can see from the video Riley gets a real kick out of dogs however he has some impulse responses and doesn't stop when a dog sits down, turns their head he still wants to climb and bounce and have vocal play. Riley would do best as an only dog or with a dog that can handle this behavior well that is his size or larger that are older and present as a leader to other dogs. Due to his impulses he will most likely do best with no children or an older confidant child that can take charge and use the leash with Riley showing him who the boss is!; a home that works from home or has a break during a work day (dog walker/come home for lunch); he will need a good yard with a secure 6 foot fence; appropriate training classes are SO important for this pup as he matures and continued routine and practice. Riley is fully vetted awaiting his neuter as he matures; has been on heart worm and flea preventive; is micro chipped to rescue and his adopter. All adoptions require application process, meet and greets and home visit if applicable to ensure the fit is perfect. Riley's adoption donation is $250 with a legal neuter contract (Less)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Posted 8/22/13, re-posted 6/30/15 due to changes in circumstances, adopted again 8/19/15, returned 3/5/16 due to other dog picking on her, re-posted 3/12/16, and pictures updated 3/5/16. Adopted again on 3/28/16, and returned on 7/21/17 due to major changes in the family that they could no longer care for her, and were heartbroken to bring her back. She turned out to be a good therapy dog for the wife while recovering from a stroke, and would lay on her legs on the couch to help keep them warm. I was told she was able to go over their 6 foot privacy fence, but I have her in a 6 foot chain link dog pen that she has not been able to climb ... (Read More)over since it has sheet metal on each end, after she kept getting over our 4 foot perimeter fence upon her return. She loves to play with the other dogs, loves people and children, and is good around cats. First Postings: Erika (who is now named Lilly) and her sister Ella were picked up by Smith County Animal Control, and were pulled from the holding facility on 8/5/13. Lilly loves getting in a water tub, and has a lot of energy to play, so would be good for an active family or individual. We were thinking possibly Husky for their breed at first, but after a few opinions, decided to go with German Shepherd/Heeler mix. We started putting her in a crate at night with no mess while with us. Lilly was adopted 9/28/13, and Casey wrote on 6/23/15, that Lilly just has more energy than she can keep up with, so would like to find her a new home with a larger area to run, than her small yard. She is taken for a 45 minute walk twice a day, but still has energy to burn. She is current on vaccinations and heartworm prevention, microchipped, knows basic obedience, walks on a leash, good with other dogs and friendly with cats (though she will chase them if they run), overwhelmingly sweet - she'll let you rub her belly all day - very energetic! She hasn't formally been house trained, as she is not left in the house unattended because of having birds, but she is in the house frequently and has never urinated or pooped inside. Julie had to return Lilly on 3/5/16 due to her male 85 pound dog picking on her, and she was digging out of the fence to get away from him. He has more energy than Lilly, so it was not working out. Julie was in tears bringing her back because of how attached she became in a short time. She was put in a wire crate at night inside the house. She was also around some farm animals at Julie's house. Lilly was estimated to have been born around May 2013, and weighed 23.2 - 8/21/13; 38.2 pounds with Casey, about 55 pounds now. (Less)

Toby is a 5 year old, 33 lb Corgi mix. We believe he has a touch of Cattle Dog in him making him a Cowboy Corgi. He is very playful and loves to run around the yard with his foster brothers and sisters. Toby is a mix of two working breeds so he needs exercise and mental stimulation. A securely fenced yard is a must. Toby is house and crate trained. He learned the doggy door in a matter of minutes but if you don't have one, he will bark to let you know he needs to go outside. Toby came into rescue as heart worm infected but he's successfully completed treatment. We soon learned that Toby was under-socialized with people and didn't know ... (Read More)how to react in certain situations. His foster has worked with a professional trainer in order to correct the few issues he's had. We prefer his forever family have experience with this breed and a willingness to continue his training. Toby is used to being around younger children and is fine with them but he barks at kids for some reason so we recommend no kids younger than 10. Toby is not what you would call a cuddle bug but he will approach for the occasional pets and snuggles. This sweet boy is currently being fostered in south TX. Approved applicants will be required to have a meet and greet or sleepover just so we can all be sure it's a good match. (Less)

Seeking Foster or Rescue group or adopter. We travel and cannot foster long term. We will pay for initial veterinarian fees! We rescued Pickle from a local city park. He is adorable, but has an injured leg that we are nursing back to health. We are also covering his shots, and heartworm treatment. He is about 2 years old. Very sweet. Just needs a home. How can you say no to those ears? We are covering ALL initial vet expenses. He would be perfectly happy in the yard, ... (Read More)on a porch, in a crate, or in a home. Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello there! My name is Hansi, and I'm just the friendliest, cutest 35-pound Dachshund/ Blue Heeler mix gal who was born in November 2009. I've got the elongated shape of a doxie but the fabulous markings and coat texture of a Blue Heeler. I'm a total sweetheart who loves hanging out with my people. I'm best with adults and older children; honestly, the young grandkids made me a bit nervous. I'm fine with dogs who are at least my size or larger, but I probably shouldn't be added to a home with a smaller dog because I may try to dominate the little tyke. Incidentally, I've never been around cats except from behind a fence. Nothing thrills me ... (Read More)more than hunting for the birds and squirrels in the back yard -- and sometimes I catch them! I could very likely be trained for hunting if you like that sort of thing. I guess you're wondering why I need to find a new home. Well, I was adopted from Buster's Friends in 2010 by a couple who now are moving to a retirement home, and the new place doesn't allow pets. No worries, I know there's a new family out there who is made to order for an adorable, loving girl like me. So come meet me today! Hansi is updated on shots, spayed, dewormed, microchipped, and heartworm tested. Her adoption fee is $150, cash or check payable to Buster's Friends. Please click the contact button if you are interested in Hansi, and we can arrange for you to meet her. To make the process more efficient, download the adoption application at http://www.bustersfriends.org/dogadoptionapplication.shtml.     Hi! I'm Georgia and I'm a 6-year-old lab mix that weighs about 50 lbs. Despite having a rough start on life, I still love people - I'm especially gentle with little kids! I'm a very calm and relaxed dog, so I don't require much activity. My favorite thing to do is curl up with a bone next to you and just hangout. When I have a little time to warm up, I also love to hang out with other dogs! I'm GREAT in my crate and I'm totally housebroken. I'm great on a leash and I never pull - I just stay right beside you so that you can let me know everything is ok. I'm also very good in cars and usually just go to sleep.     Lulu is a fun-loving heeler mix. She only has 3 legs but that does not stop her. Sadly Lulu was hit by a car and left to die. She did suffer a blow to the head in the accident as well. Sometimes Lulu has bad days as a result. They are not often, but when she has one she needs someone consistent to remind her of proper manners and her routine. If she has that consistency she does great. She loves to go for walks, but does not enjoy strangers coming up to her on her walk. She likes to make sure her owner is safe! She's a great guard dog.     Hello all and thank you for taking the time to look at my profile! My name is Blue and I was found on the streets of Houston. A nice lady took me in but she didn't have a lot of experience with dogs (she's a cat person)so she found someone who did. You see, I have a few little issues. My bottom row of small teeth are missing because I was chained and I chewed and chewed trying to get free. I finally did and I am learning to trust again. I absolutely love a calm home environment and love to be next to my human companions. I do have mild anxiety (I mean, come on, you shoulda seen where I was found)but nothing unbearable. I was sent for 3 ... (Read More)weeks of intensive training and I did great. I just need a little bit of patience is all. You go slow and easy with me and I promise I will respond great. I do not like thunder at all and will hide in my crate until the storm has passed. I am house trained, crate trained, and I get along great with other dogs. I would probably be best suited in a house with older kids because the little ones like to pull and tug on me sometimes and I am not so keen on that idea. Things I love to do.... I love to play with my mini soccer ball. That thing is so much fun!! I also love to just chill in my crate with the door open at times too. I never miss the chance to get some love and affection from my foster mom either. I am a very mello girl so no need to keep me constantly amused. I will even sit for a treat as well! Please consider me. I have had a rough start in life but am striving every day to show the world I am a great dog:) (Less)

**DO NOT email from this site. Please read to bottom how to contact us for information or fill out an online application. THANK YOU!** Ozzy was dumped on the mean streets of the South Side of Houston in 2015 after what we can only guess being a working dog with not much human interaction. Ozzy loves his squeaky toys in his kennel, he loves his kennel, he loves face rubs, butt scratches, and a good game of chase around the play yard. He loves playing (and herding) other dogs, and he is starting to enjoy people. We aren't too sure about cats. And we are not too sure about kids but Cattledogs by nature aren't too keen on kids. ... (Read More)Ozzy still has a wild streak and doesn't like to be forced to do things so we don't think he would be good in a home with kids under 14. He would probably love to be working again. When we first discovered him, he was very responsive to whistles, I bet it would all come back to him. He appears to be bored stiff if he doesn't have a job to do. He is super smart! Ozzy is about 4 yrs old, negative for heartworms, up to date on all routine vaccinations, microchipped, crate trained, starting to walk on leash though he really doesn't like it but he is gaining confidence... has a TON of personality. He loves other dogs. Good guardian/herder... more than likely was strictly a working dog before he came to us. He is a super smart, sweet dog and will vocalize his needs for affection, going out, coming in, you name it. Certainly there is an adventurous home out there waiting for Ozzy! Waiting and willing to work with him to get him to his full potential! Ozzy is waiting to expand his mind and learn everything there is to learn :) To apply to foster or adopt Ozzy, go to www.southsidestreetdogs.com/applications.html or for more information, use the form on the 'contact us' tab.     Say hello to Maverick! This little 42 lb. man was about to be euthanized at a high kill facility in Roswell, NM, but luckily we were able to bring him into our rescue before that happened! Maverick was adopted to a very great family back in 2015 but they have small kiddos and Maverick is a little too hyper to be around little babies. Maverick is so sweet once he gets to know you (he's a little scared at first). After that, he's your best friend! Maverick's ears are absolutely awesome and his personality is even better. He is an energetic dog that loves to play. He also knows a TON of tricks (sit, down, shake, high five, wait, sit pretty, ... (Read More)kennel, spin, roll over, etc). He does get along with other dogs, but he'd prefer to be the alpha dog or the only dog. HE does not do well with cats or other small animals. Maverick's favorite thing is to play with his toys and then curl up into a little ball next to his human! He is potty trained, neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and very healthy! Our adoption process begins with you meeting Maverick. Feel free to schedule a play date with him and your existing dog(s) if they are friendly. After you fill out an application, we will verify your references and do a brief home inspection. If all goes well, we will deliver Maverick to you for a small adoption fee. You will also have the option to purchase a large wire kennel for an additional fee. We then ask that you sign our adoption contract. We will do a follow-up visit approximately two weeks to one month after the adoption to insure that Maverick is adjusting well to his new home and that he is happy and healthy. We feel our adoption process is the best way to vet good owners and to guard against people seeking dogs for dog fighting, bait dogs, and/or dog sales. We only have our rescue dogs' best interest in mind and we do everything we can to insure that they go to the very best home and that it's the perfect fit. (Less)

lnteresting Australian Cattle Dog Trivia Low-Cost Texas Spay & Neuter Clinics
Australian Cattle Dogs were bred by 19th century Australian pioneers to herd cattle on large ranches. Most Australian Cattle Dogs have a star-shaped marking on their foreheads called the Bentley Mark, after dog owner Thomas Bentley, whose purebred dog supposedly passed this mark on to all genuine Australian Cattle Dogs. Australian Cattle Dogs are descended from several different breeds, including Dalmatians and Smithfield Collies, which are now thought to be extinct.
