Rescue Me ID: 17-04-10-00126Iskut (female)

Australian Cattle Dog Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Very High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Iskut is a loving, gorgeous dog in a loving home - but we feel that she would be much happier with room to roam and a job to do. She's predominantly cattle dog/blue heeler with some border collie mix - she's extremely fast, high energy, and defensive of her people. She's okay with dogs once she gets to know them, and good with most dogs out and about at the park. In some situations and with small dogs she can exhibit fear based anxiety and react aggressively. Her instinctual tendency to nip to control the situation can happen if the situation seems scary to her. She's an amazing pup but given our lifestyle and some new life changes, we ... (Read More)are looking for a better option to support her long term happiness. She's a great running/skiing/biking companion, but would probably be best suited to a rural property and a working lifestyle. She is fairly well trained with basic commands, and loves learning new things very quickly. (Less)

lnteresting Australian Cattle Dog Trivia Canada Fact Sheet
Australian Cattle Dogs were bred by 19th century Australian pioneers to herd cattle on large ranches. Most Australian Cattle Dogs have a star-shaped marking on their foreheads called the Bentley Mark, after dog owner Thomas Bentley, whose purebred dog supposedly passed this mark on to all genuine Australian Cattle Dogs. The Australian Cattle Dog nips at a cow's heels to keep it in line with the herd, and may apply this technique to its humans from time to time as well.
